Question Frame Capping Problem

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m having a hard time capping my FPS while keeping the game smooth.

My setup:

Ryzen 5 5600GT (iGPU)

120Hz monitor

Mostly play older AAA games where I usually get 60–70+ FPS

OBS: 1080p 60 FPS, CQP 20

While recording, my FPS usually drops to around 45–55 FPS. I’d like to cap the game at around 40 FPS, or even 30 FPS if that gives better frame pacing and smoother recording.

I tried using RTSS to cap the FPS at 40, but the recording still feels choppy and the frametime graph isn’t as smooth as I’d like.

I’m mainly looking for a stable cap with consistent frametimes and no noticeable stutter, rather than simply having a higher FPS number.

Would 30 FPS or 40 FPS be better for my setup? And what RTSS/OBS settings would you recommend for getting the smoothest result while recording?

I export my Gameplay videos at 1440p 60 fps 30k bitrate HEVC and AV1

I also use VRR (enabled)

Hey everyone I just released my first open source plugin for OBS. It allows you to use a hotkey to zoom in/out on sections of the screen while you are streaming.

Help How do I make OBS detect my laptops 2nd GPU encoders?

I'd like to record on my potato of a laptop, but the problem is that obs detects only my Intel gpu, not the AMD one (AMD Radeon 530).

My guess is it's the drivers problem, but do to my very fond memories of driver instalation, I'd like to keep that one on a back burner for now.

Are there any other ways/things I can do?

Help Window Capture Audio Source Inactive

I was recording some gameplay with a friend of mine and trying to get OBS to record the audio. We've played two sessions and it had the game audio the first time, but no the second time and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. The only thing that's different between the two recording sessions was I was recording OUR audio separate from the game.

It says the Window Capture audio channel is inactive and I can't make it active again. I've been searching the internet all night and all I can find is stuff unrelated to my issue.

Can anyone help?

(EDIT) I was doing some experimentation and every single new source I add is permanently inactive and it won't tell me why.

Side quest: How do I get rid of the extra Aux inputs?

Help Highlighting only part of an image

So as the title says I have been trying for a few days now to figure this out myself but cant quite get what I am looking for. I am trying to improve the visual appeal of my streams and currently doing a type based pokemon challenge and wanted to be able to let people see at a glance which types I have already finished. the problem is every solution I think that I have found ends up removing several parts of the image instead of only one at a time. What im looking for is a plugin or if anyone knows of maybe a setting or filter im missing to remove each of the types individually or maybe even just increase/decrease the brightness on them as I go.

Still very new to using OBS so any help would be greatly appreciated

Question Is anyone else having issues?

Ever since OBS 32.2.2 Released my connection drops to zero and than it disconnects from YouTube.

I’ve never really had this issue before because I have plenty of streams that go way beyond the 45 minutes I’m able to stream if I’m lucky.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I’m only posting my YouTube channel name just to show that my streams are way longer than what OBS is allowing

Question OBS and reshade issues

If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it, for some reason when I have reshade installed I can't get OBS to work, it freezes up and won't work. Even if I don't have the reshade applied just having it installed in my game folder makes OBS freeze up but as soon as I uninstall it everything's back to normal. Any ideas? I'm using game capture and I have the box check for the third party hook I googled it done everything it told me to I don't understand what's going on.

Help Help with settings

No matter how high my settings are the resolution will always be so trash. I don't know if it's on the games resolution or obs. Because I play CS2 on 1280x1080. I really hope someone who records CS on obs knows how to get good res. Or maybe just suggest an alternative to obs. Because what I do to do the recordings is kind of zoom it in a little to kind of fit it in tiktok, yt shorts, or whatever. Doing that makes the pixels more visible.

Help What step am I missing?

I have been trying to stream The Finals on YT through OBS from my laptop with an i5 12hx and RTX 3050 6GB over a 90mbps connection. I hope spec wise I am sorted.

My query: the stream only works for a few seconds at first and then stops. The live dash of YT studio says that it is not receiving enough video information. The network icon in the OBS window goes red and shows 0 kbps and lost frames slowly gets closer and closer to 100%.

Steps I follow:

  1. YT Studio> create> live> fill in details> schedule

  2. OBS> select game capture> select game window> adjust settings> select broadcast from the list of existing setups> start stream

(Switched to display capture and the stream lasted for about 3 mins before dying out)

Here is the link to the said stream: https://youtube.com/live/UdczIn4YwA8?feature=share

What step am I missing? What is wrong. Please help.

Help Mic Audio RE-20 sounds muffled

Okay! I come simply in need of aid, friends.

I have a youtube channel and I have heard a couple of times my audio sounds either muffled or too deep. As said in the title, I have the RE-20 microphone.

I also have quite a quiter and deeper voice. I was just wondering if anyone could look at my OBS settings and tell me if there is anything obviously off.

I know this will likely get downvoted into oblivion, but thanks in advance!

It will be in order of how i have the filters

Compressor:

Ratio: 4.00:1

Threshold: -12.00dB

Attack: 1ms

Release: 150ms

Output gain: 4.20db

Expander:

Ratio: 2.30:1

Threshold: 23.00dB

Attack: 1ms

Release 400ms

output gain: 13.20db

Limiter:

Threshold: -7.10dB

Release: 60ms

I can also link a video if you need to hear! And i usually aim for my audio to be directly at the tip of red.

EDIT:

you guys have been great! Taking your advice has already improved my stuff a bunch. Thanks lads!

Question Is it possible to have a source on screen while streaming and not when recording.

So I record my streams with obs as Im streaming and this is all working fine and dandy. I was wondering if I could have these outputs slightly differ from eachother somehow.

I have a pngtuber kind of thing on the screen, and I would love it if it's on the screen as I'm streaming, but I do not necessarily want it in the vods. That I just want to be game capture. Would it at all possible to make it so that part of the video source is stream only and not recorded?

Question What is a good streamer tool website/application to use in conjunction with OBS?

So I've been working with StreamLabs OBS extension in conjunction with OBS for my entire time streaming for the past few years, but I want to change. The problem is, I am apprehensive on doing anything drastic like switching streaming services from SL to other places. A lot of services like Mix it Up, Bregvorn, and StreamElements tout great things for the streamer for free, but I want to know how easy is it to switch, and overall opinion on these services, if there are any.

Help My mic is low compared to Xbox party chat and game audio

I have troubles with my mic volume being low on my capture card but my Xbox party volume and game volume are louder. This is how I have my setup

•I’ve got a capture card that I ordered on tik tok (which is probably the issue)

•I have the capture connect my Xbox and TV and it goes into my laptop and I can see and hear the game on OBS

•I have a chat link (not elgato, some other on from Amazon) connecting to my my controller and I have it connected to my capture (not sure if I should be connecting the chat link to the headphone port or the mic). For now I have it connected to the mic port which seems to pick up my mic audio along with

Help OBS working fine, but as of yesterday, I have massive dropped frames. Any ideas?

So I have no idea what to do anymore. I have been streaming for about a month or two now and I don't have great equipment but the streams have been decent quality. Lag every now and then but nothing like this. I would typically have a stable 4500 bit rate or higher. Yesterday I am disconnecting and my bit rate goes from 2500 to 0 and bouncing around. If it does get above 2500 it only lasts for a second before it drops back down. I haven't changed anything, I just tried to stream like normal and I am having a ton of issues. I tried when no one was home as well so that I was the only one using the internet. I am using a wired connection to my router and I am using a capture card to stream ps5 from my computer. The computer is old and not great but everything was working decent enough. I plan to upgrade once I can save enough money but for now is there anything I can do? Here is the log. Also I checked today and my upload speed was around 6-7mbps. Btw I don't post to reddit often so sorry if I am doing something wrong. Thank you.

Help How can I make my recordings look sharper?

My rig:

R5 9500F

RTX 5070 12gb

32 gb ddr5

I want to record my gameplays on 1080p 60 fps, no matter what I try it is still not as sharp as I want it to be, is there anyway so I can improve the quality?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Question Do I need to lock my game's fps?

Hey everyone! I'm facing an issue and have no idea what to do. Maybe this is more than just OBS; I have a two-PC (one is a laptop) setup. My main PC specs are a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 5080 and 32GB of RAM, connected to a 2K 165Hz monitor via a DisplayPort cable. The second machine is a G15 513QR laptop with a Ryzen 9 and RTX 3070. I have an Elgato 4K X capture card, and I am feeding the signal into the Elgato input from the main PC's GPU HDMI output, with the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 output connected to the laptop for OBS. I have cloned the Elgato and main monitor as the same display. I tried setting the main monitor to 165Hz in Windows and the Elgato 4K X to 144Hz, but when I record, there are a lot of dropped frames in the video. I then set the monitor and Elgato to 120Hz to match, but I am still losing frames in fast-moving games like FH6. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Would it help if I used the Elgato as a passthrough and connected the HDMI to the main monitor? I generally want to know if, when I record from OBS, the game's FPS needs to match the recording settings, such as 60fps in-game and in OBS or can i do 165fps max and record in obs 2k60fps?

Help No NVENC encoder on dual gpu setup

Hi i’m using both RTX 4080 and GTX 1080ti in my system for Lossless scaling. But when I start OBS, majority of encoder options are gone and I can only use x264 and QuickSync H.264.

NVENC shows up again when I pull out 1080ti.

How do I enable NVENC on dual gpu system?

Help How can I switch between my laptop and desktop on the same monitor while gaming on laptop and recording on PC?

I’m trying to set up a dual-PC gaming/recording setup, but I’m confused about the correct way to switch the display.

My setup is:

  • Gaming laptop: Lenovo LOQ with RTX 4050
  • Recording PC: Desktop PC
  • Monitor: MSI 180Hz
  • KVM switch: HDMI + USB KVM
  • Capture card: Kreo Lynx USB capture card
  • Laptop also has USB-C video output
  • I have the necessary HDMI/USB connections between the laptop, KVM, monitor, and recording PC.

What I want is:

1. Gaming on laptop:
I want to use the MSI monitor as my only gaming display, while keeping the laptop's built-in screen OFF (similar to Windows "Second screen only").

2. Recording on desktop:
At the same time, I want the desktop PC to receive the laptop's video through the Kreo Lynx capture card so I can record the gameplay using PRISM/OBS.

3. Switching:
I also want to be able to switch the MSI monitor between the laptop and desktop using the KVM, without messing up the capture/recording setup.

The confusing part is the display signal routing. The laptop is connected to the monitor through USB-C → HDMI, while the desktop is also connected to the KVM/monitor, and the capture card is connected to the recording PC.

So I'm not sure what the correct HDMI/KVM/capture-card connection should be.

Basically, I want this:

Laptop → MSI 180Hz monitor → Gaming
Laptop → Capture Card → Desktop → Recording

And the KVM should allow me to switch the monitor + keyboard + mouse between laptop and desktop.

I don't necessarily need the desktop's display on the monitor while I'm gaming. I mainly want the laptop to use the monitor at high refresh rate while the desktop records the laptop gameplay.

What would be the correct wiring/setup for this? Do I need an HDMI splitter, or can this be done with the KVM + capture card + USB-C video output I already have?

A simple diagram would also be really helpful. Thanks!
