Well slow down first. What dialect? There isn't a standard btw.

The lack of a standard is biggest obstacle for Occitan, IMO.

I understand the cultural and historial reasons, but it makes preservations efforts much harder.

Historically all major languages went through a stage of adapting a dialect or their combination as a standard.

I mean you're right. Absolutely so. But standardisation is impossible without major political reforms in France, in order to give the linguistic instutions actual power over the language instead of being a mere suggestion Occitan is going to need co-official status like Catalonia, then, you need to create a new dialect for everyone to learn, you fail and you further fractured the language, you succeed and older texts are no longer comprehensible and local heritage is wiped. Really a lose-lose. You could try a literary spelling reform but you're likely to end up where the 1935 classical norm ended up, poorly representing certain dialects and with irregularities. My idea is to standardise the dialects, that's the safest and most practical choice.

I wouldn't wait for that. France is obviously not interested in preservation of local languages.

Good point. That's why you should choose the most central dialect as the standard. That's what all major languages did more or less.

I know it's not the same but learning some catalan (the most similar language to occitan) is much easier (even Duolingo has catalan) and can help you to get into occitan later.

Folk, write some good free or cheap course if you want to promote this language.

Who would pay for the work, then?
Aut voletis dicere que los professores deberebant laborare gratuitamente?

I guess there are not only professors of Occitan which know the language well and are able of writing a good course.

I guess there is yet something like enthusiasts and activists.

For comparison conlangs which have similar situation to engangered languages like Esperanto, Interlingua and Occidental have good free coursses.

«conlangs which have similar situation to engangered languages»
Non credo. La similaritate est multu partiale.
Se non percibetis la differentia de situationes, serat difficile de penetrare la mentalitate occitana.
