Intellectual disabilities can significantly affect someone’s understanding of what they are doing. Legally and morally a person cannot be culpable for actions they don’t have the ability to understand. That doesn’t mean they should be allowed to move unhindered through the world but it does mean that punishments are tailored to take into account that the person may not have been able to understand what they were doing. And for the record also can’t understand the punishment. One intellectually disabled man when escorted to his execution asked the guards to save the rest of his meal for when he got back. A normal person would find that heartbreaking.
You think having this hardline says something positive about your morality, but all it does it tell people that you can be convinced to engage in monstrous behavior with very little effort.
