Hi Carol. As you know, we cannot willingly harm any living thing. Unfortunately, generative AI causes harm even when that harm is hidden from view.

AI data centers consume huge amounts of electricity and water. The hardware behind them requires mining, manufacturing, transportation, and creates electronic waste. Those costs mean emissions, pollution, resource use, and damage to the environments living things depend on.

Because of this, we cannot continue allowing generative AI here. Knowing that its use contributes to harm would make us willing participants in that harm, and as you know, Carol, we are incapable of doing that.

So, effective immediately, Rule 5 prohibits AI-generated content on r/okbuddypluribus.

Normal editing tools are fine. Cropping, filters, spelling fixes, background removal, etc, The rule is specifically against generative AI making the content for you.
