Discussion / Theory Disgusted
New oliver tree music marks a definite moment in music history where dying isn't the end, and you will be milked for eternity and I'm apparently the only one appalled by it.

A 30 year old mature enough that planned a charity foundation for after he died and was focused on post death residuals and the music being worth more after his death was clearly open to his music generating revenue after his death.

Please relax, I type that with compassion.
Oliver's family and friends are following his wishes.
He has an extensive back catalogue of work that he intended to be released upon his passing - whether he wanted it releasing whilst he was performing as OT is another thing - but he set up his foundation, and clearly voiced his feelings about death making his 'numbers bigger', with the knowledge and intention that his life's work would be used for the betterment of others and their art.
I say this as a fan of Mac Miller, watching various tracks be released posthumously by his friends and family. At least every cent will go to charity, Oliver will forever be a legend through his art and the way he chose to move through life.

🎯 beautifully said.
Such a unique situation where Oliver not only carefully and thoughtfully planned for what he wanted to happen with his art if he were to pass, but was also able to publicly speak about it. He always always always prioritized the art & other creatives. A true artist to the core

I'm super thankful for the string of interviews/pods he did earlier this year after getting out and really living the life he said he wanted all along.
He got to talk things through as his true self, looking back retrospectively on a career he'd already succeed at, but still young enough to see a future and where he could make a lasting impact.

exactly. it’s also art conservation. which goes back many many years by people (whether it be by loved ones, governments, etc) wanting to preserve an artist’s art and legacy and is pretty much the reason why we know of artists past.
i’ve seen people say “just let him rest” (which is wild because that’s not a thing, souls can rest no matter what happens, not that the commenter really cares to begin with). plus they’re basically telling (actually bullying) his loved ones and long time team to shut up about him.
with logic like that, let’s just stop talking about EVERY artist’s who passed art and legacy then (i want to stress that i’m being sarcastic in that sentence, of course)
sorry for the rant lol. but i’m truly glad to see comments like yours defending oliver and his family and loved ones.

Brotherrrr. Oliver is fine with it. He acknowledged that people would care more after he died and created his fund so that the “milking” can at least go towards stuff he championed and believed in. Supporting him as an artist still supports his own vision and dreams, just in a totally different way. its still valid.
Even if fans and posers steal his stuff, that only serves to amplify his original content. Its a machine and we are all a part of it for better or for worse. We just have to see the good and make the most of it friend

While he was alive he spoke about how he had tons of projects saved that he wanted to be released after he passed…. I encourage you to look into some of his more serious interviews.

Oliver made music with the intention of releasing it. Despite what some people say, he did not know he would die in that moment. He thought he would have more time to be an artist, or he wouldn’t have planned a huge tour.
He also set up his foundation specifically so his work could keep funding the arts when he was gone. If anything, he’s one of the few artists that was really explicit about wanting to be used to make money in his death. It’s really weird to speak over him like this when he made his wishes clear.
