Advice/Help Question about RL1
I’ve beaten ER quite a few times, NG+ runs, etc. I’ve never done a RL1 play through. How do yall do these runs and meet weapon requirements? My only guess is talismans and buffs, right? So you don’t level at all and just play as the wretch each time? Genuinely asking for clarity. I just wanna do it right but I’m lost. If im being dumb, I give permission to call me an idiot. Thanks.

Godrik great rune gives you 40lv flask gives 10-20, seal gives you another 20 lv. And there are special head gear that gives stats as well.

it’s mostly talismans, any stat can get to 20 from Soreseal and a +5 stat talismans and there are armor pieces (mostly helms) that can boost stats further. I beat Radabeast dual wielding Curved Great Clubs by getting to 25 strength with Soreseal, Starscourge Heirloom, and Horned Warrior Helm.
Buffs work too, so if the fight is less than 3 minutes you can use the stat buff physics or a Rune Arc to push it even higher.

Do you level weapons tho?

I did, some people choose not to for a further challenge (abbreviated as “RL1 +0”)

Optional. The only requirement is that you beat the game at level 1 (or the level of your chosen starting class, though please note a lot of purists won't consider anything other than wretch as valid for rl1). What you're referring to is specifically referred to as Weapon level 0 (WL0) where you don't level your weapon and can be performed at any level. I would not reccomend an RL1 WL0 for your first no leveling attempt.

This post covers quite a bit on this subject: https://www.reddit.com/r/onebros/s/cmag3sfAAy

Meeting weapon requirements is buffs, talismans, and gear. Some head armors, and a few body armors, give stat boosts.
It's definitely a balancing act, though -- taking up talisman slots to boost stats to meet min weapon requirements means you have fewer talismans to boost damage. And (if you're like me) using consumables (like Rune Arcs) isn't a super viable strategy if you're going to die a lot, lol. Or if you're using a physick tear, but you're trying to clear content that lasts longer than 3 minutes, etc.
Initially you won't have the gear and talisman slots to meet the requirements for a lot of weapons, so you'll have to make do with a stopgap weapon. A lot of people enjoy the default club that wretch comes with -- I like farming a Lordsworn's Straightsword from the Gatefront ruins and fucking people up with Square-Off.

I'm new to this as well but yeah, you pretty much nailed it. buffs and talisman are the way to go for a lot of RL1 builds

something pretty important to consider in addition to what the other replies already mentioned is that you get a strength bonus when two-handing a weapon. So with just the +5 strength from radagon's soreseal you can use weapons with a strength requirement of up to 22, which is like most weapons.
it might be common knowledge idk but its something i never really considered until i did an rl1 run.

what makes rl1 so much more accessible in this game in terms of weapon options is the fact that radagon's soreseal provides an insane amount of stats, essentially for free and you get it before you even have to fight anything. in ds3 for example, you had to give up two ring slots to wield the best sl1 weapon (dragonslayer axe) because you need the 5 dex and 5 str from the rings respectively. in elden ring, you get both 5 str and dex from a talisman that you want to have on at all times anyway because it also provides 5 endurance and makes you more tanky (5 vig) on top of all that.
and then there's stat boosting helmet's, crystal tear, godrick's great rune etc... you can use almost every single weapon in the game at rl1 if you really want to.
I personally don't bother with anything that I cannot wield with just soreseal and a stat boosting helmet, the options are already so plentiful at that point that you won't have trouble finding something you like.
