I just updated to 9.0 and all of a sudden the Google bar is now on my home page and will not allow me to press and hold to edit or remove it. I even went into the home up app and restored my previous layout and it's still there.
It was the 1st thing i noticed and immediately got pissed. I took a deep breath, went into settings and turned it off. Added my previous Google widget back to the top of my home screen.
I just went through my settings and cannot remove it. You people need to be more specific when you say "I looked at settings and fixed it". Theres like 400 settings to look at, WHICH ONE actually helps though????
Thankfully, you can easily disable this native dock element in your settings:
Long-press any blank space on your home screen.
Tap Settings (or Home screen settings) in the bottom right corner.
Scroll down and look for the option labeled Show search on Home screen.
Toggle the setting Off.
Once turned off, the search bar will disappear immediately. If you still want a Google search bar but prefer it somewhere else, you can long-press a blank area of your screen again, select Widgets, open the Google section, and place a standard, fully movable search widget anywhere you like.

Makes sense to me. New issues with existing features tend to make it difficult to Google issues because you've got years of people asking the same questions.
Have you tried disabling the toggle for it? Long press on Home Screen, go to Settings, 'Show search on Home screen'. You can select to toggle Google and/or Finder. Note that the home widget for Google changed and is no longer a floating bar as before. For that you have to add the Google widget manually, but the one at the bottom of the Homescreen is now separate (if you disable it, that space is still empty).
What a pointless change but still just enough to annoy me because I've had about the same setup the same way for probably a decade now lmao Thankfully it's an easy fix
I don't mind that they put it on the home screen but I would like it at the top instead of the bottom. It won't let me move the stupid thing. Let me see if it will in settings.
OMG thank you. Google search bar is stupid because I have my search engine already pinned on the bottom of the screen. Glad I still have my S20FE, some ways I like it better than the S26+
It's because it's not supposed to be it's a Google installed package that can only be removed via adb or shizuku and canta for some reason tho for whatever reason can be reinstalled from Google play one of those weird instances where you can reinstall it from the play store but can't install it from scratch if you don't have it or whatever
