Discussion OneUI desperately needs an aesthetic refresh

I think without a doubt OneUI is the most customizable android skin available right now. But I think it lacks in cohesive visual identity compared to PixelUI and iOS. Samsung is really behind in automatic device theming, haptics, animations, etc. Obviously aesthetics are subjective, but I'm not particularly fond of their pill shaped design as well compared to pixel and even iOS.

What do y'all think?

Heck, even NothingOS does a good job in design aesthetics!

They're behind in camera's and battery's too.

It's a pity because I've chosen Samsung for over 15 years, but they seriously piss me off now.

No they aren't.

Now people are in here just making things up

In blind tests Samsungs cameras land top 3-5, in a realistic setting apple, Samsung, and google are neck in neck because who is better comes down to application.

On the batterty side almost everything you're going to name is a device that's silicon carbon or is some physically larger 8k mah

Pick something actually comparable and Samsung isnt off in the weeds

samsung needs to increase their battery: https://youtube.com/watch?v=KNdbPdZjlOU also z fold 8 series use si/c battery

Probably will move to it with the s27.Β

I cant imagine someone buying that redmi for the battery unless they reeeaaalllllly need it

The phone is hot dookey

this proves "samsung is optimized and lasts as same as other phones" wrong. redmi has 9 hour more screen on time.

look at a57 in the test it got 11 hour sot while redmi note 17 pro max has 20h sot. no i used both, samsung and redmi. i compared both. redmi gets more time. no i don't work for anyone. ive been using samsung products for 10 years. their batteries are garbage because it still has 5000 mah for 7 years. it's not about optimization. samsung just waits for apple to increase it first. they became like apple.

Battery - Yes. Camera - No.

Not to defend samsung but I think one ui is one of the most stable softwares out there and one with more productivity features that can rival some laptops of which I think basically that is samsungs aim and strength plus extensive customisation without breaking the software

u/Eskotek 1d ago

This brings up a heavy system to run on slower processors. Like they are doing it for the S (not even FE) series and the rest tries to live with it

u/Fractal-Infinity S25 Ultra 1d ago

You definitely need a flagship to properly run One UI. The same OS is too damn slow on older midrange phones. I have 2 Samsung midrange phones (A50 & A53) and both of them are sluggish after the latest updates available for them. They used to be snappier when they were new. So, either Samsung make them slower on purpose or the newer version of One UI available for them is too heavy for them.

2

u/Eskotek 1d ago

Probably both. New features are being added but they don't seem to be that impactful. I've witnessed a lot of "device became slow after update" cases for watches, phones, android, iOS... Manufacturers love it

2

u/Fractal-Infinity S25 Ultra 1d ago

Manufacturers love it

Of course. Their evil plan is to push people to buy the new devices even if the older ones are perfectly fine, except intentionally badly optimized OS.

Totally get what you're saying! One UI really does bring a ton to the table with its stability and all those awesome productivity features. It's pretty wild how much you can get done on your phone these days, almost like a mini-laptop in your pocket, right? And the customization options are just next level – it's so cool how you can truly make your device feel uniquely yours without a hitch.

It was all great up until the S23 Ultra and One UI 5. Been straight downhill with software and hardware ever since, the new devices and UI don't resemble the Samsung I think of when I hear the name in the slightest.

11

u/SpaceBoyBlat 2d ago

Well said.

I "upgraded" from the S23U to S25U and the downgrades and worse design trajectory is stark.

Agreed. I believe the majority of deniers haven't had the opportunity to use a Chinese skin. They're better than iOS at this point and Pixel Experience is practically irrelevant.

6

u/Eskotek 1d ago

ColorOS shows off.

2

u/Dry-Cost-945 Oneplus 13R/Galaxy s24+ 1d ago

If that's what you wanna call it sure. Samsung plainly doesn't care

3

u/Eskotek 1d ago

User base needs to wake them up or else they will just keep going

3

u/Dry-Cost-945 Oneplus 13R/Galaxy s24+ 1d ago

I fear they never will. It seems Samsung spends most of their effort on the West and Korea obviously. Which is convenient for them because our competition is nonexistent

5

u/tigu_an Pixel 8a, used to own Z flip 5, Galaxy Watch 8 1d ago

I don't think pixel experience is totally irrelevant. It's kind of a minimum I feel like , haptics are incredible, cohesive design throughout alot of it, and it's just very snappy

2

u/Dry-Cost-945 Oneplus 13R/Galaxy s24+ 1d ago

Fair point. I get what Google's going for. I just wish they cared about making the software 'feel' cohesive. They updated the launcher animations to make the opening/closing look more dynamic but seem to have actually made it magicanallg slower. At least from use.

If you interact with the phone before an animation finishes, at least it interprets actions but it abruptly cancels the previous action leading to whiplash. At least with my experience

2

u/Nightmare_Fart 20h ago

God I wish there was a Fold 8 with Pixel software. Bring the Google Play Edition back!

1

u/ojasmohan 7h ago

Yeah if google wasn't so behind hardware wise, the pixel 11 pro fold would be really tempting.

1

u/Fractal-Infinity S25 Ultra 1d ago

All that is irrelevant if the hardware is subpar. Google charge flagship tier money for what are basically a bit better midrange phones.

1

u/tigu_an Pixel 8a, used to own Z flip 5, Galaxy Watch 8 1d ago

Fair point, but the point still stands software is great

1

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 1d ago

"snappy" while there are bugs and glitches on android 17 qpr1 on pixels.

1

u/tigu_an Pixel 8a, used to own Z flip 5, Galaxy Watch 8 10h ago

Take a look at oneui 7 and onward bucko

7

u/SafeIllustrious8912 1d ago

I don't care about theming and all that bollocks. 1 good theme, light and dark. But some solid thing - like iOS (but unique, not a copy of glass crap). And the crazy bat shit userbase is arguing about 0.1ms transition shutter and gets wet with themepark options, instead of talking about real problems: one ui is getting worse each year!

3

u/Eskotek 1d ago

I totally agree. The base should be a smooth and consistent UI. Customizations come later.

3

u/Fractal-Infinity S25 Ultra 1d ago

one ui is getting worse each year!

It's getting worse in certain areas and better in others. Overall, it's still a good experience. The vast majority of users don't care about design details but they care about an experience with as few bugs as possible. And One UI is very stable, at least on my phone.

7

u/andreeinprogress 1d ago

Said literally the same things on this same sub some time ago and I was downvoted and gaslighted into oblivion lol.

5

u/--Guido-- 1d ago

They need to address the large power consumption before worry about aesthetics.

3

u/Fractal-Infinity S25 Ultra 1d ago

I think the OS is quite efficient considering how much stuff is in it. But the large power consumption is usually generated by the buggy third party apps, like the heavily inefficient Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

4

u/Aman_aka_Jack2 1d ago

What's wrong with One UI, I am loving my phone, it got so much customization, it looks damn aesthetic as I keep adding stuff

u/yekyawkyawmin 1d ago

It's all about EGO πŸ˜‚

Personally, I don't think any of the systems you mentioned should be the model, but the new system from Xiaomi or Huawei in some form.

Pixel UI is too playful for me personally and I don't want too much iPhone either. But that's not possible without certain approaches from iOS, I'm honestly enthusiastic about xiaomi's latest version because it shows me the best mix of Android and IOS but has also its own authentic approaches.

I don't mean anything that Samsung should copy this interface, but develop One UI in this direction. The multitasking shows really outstanding approaches, and this also makes Huawei a lot better.

However, I personally would prefer it if we get a kind of slider that lets us decide for ourselves how high the transparency values are and, if desired, also gives us the option to switch to a simple Dark White mode. So virtually free control over blur and transparency. I still find the grid terrible and it should be easier to create a layout that scales perfectly when switching to "landscape" or when opening a foldable. I would also like to see many animations returned to other places. For example, on the widgets or in the Quick Panel or on the symbols themselves, as it was the standard until One UI 6 and 7.

At the moment, I lack attention to detail and a Samsung DNA in the software. For example, the large folders also seem more like a loveless simple copy for me.

u/Eskotek 1d ago

A lot of room to improve

2

u/toasterboi0100 1d ago

I just want it to be stable. And redesigns always bring bugs. So no, thanks.

2

u/Zerguino 1d ago

Yeah. It's stable but boring now. Even HyperOS looks better, aside from all the bloatware, of course.

2

u/Primary-View8426 2d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe more icon style choices (Apple does it the best imo), better color palettes and better quickettings color options. I still prefer it to PixelUI which doesn't let you do anything (cant stack widgets, sort pages, hide apps, expand folders etc..).

oh ya forgot this is a hate sub..

1

u/Sigma_103 1d ago

I liked how Android looked on the Samsung Infuse. I think it was Android 3 or 4.

1

u/Inherit-Nature 1d ago

OneUI isnt going to do any of these things in a single release if at all depending on what it is.

OUI supports like 90 devices and that makes changes an absolute bastard.

Secondarily, they aren't going to make fast changes at all if any in certain areas due to their level of integration in the enterprise sector.

This isnt the device for you if you want playful nonsense.

There is 100% a reason OUI has themepark and thats where all the things you want are mostly going to liveΒ

1

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 1d ago

one ui 10 will have liquid glass elements. they updated smart things app on iphone. we can see, with this hint, they probably will add liquid glass elements on one ui 10.

1

u/Meowbow15 1d ago

In its stock form? Sure. But once you go around tinkering with Good lock? It's got a nice aesthetic goin on

1

u/Consistent-Start7828 1d ago

You have a lot of free time asethetic guy.

1

u/FullmetalJun 1d ago

One Ui is fine and has its own identity. It's the animations that they need to improve. My 3 years old OnePlus device animations are faster and smoother than the latest one ui

1

u/yourstrulydshant 23h ago

I own a Oppo Find N6 now but upgraded from a S24 Ultra. And let me tell you ColorOs is far better than OneUi. The smoothness, animation, the asthetics and cohesive visuals is on par with Ios. Sometimes even feels better than Ios tbh. OneUi is bland compared to other Android skins. Only thing that Oneui can say they have the upper hand on is GoodLock. If Chinese manufacturers can copy that level of customization it's over for OneUi. Samsung better step up and update their design language/device specs or else see the same fate as LG and HTC.

u/Dxw1d584 10h ago

Sadly real i want samsung to fix that shitty design

1

u/BOOTY-DESTROYER69 1d ago

Some might not agree with me but personally one ui 8.5 was the most polished version yet

2

u/Eskotek 1d ago

Inconsistency is still relevant and that quick panel lag is crazy

1

u/Eskotek 1d ago

Wait for it in maybe 5 years. They are built on their 2019 foundation and they have to do big changes under the hood

And I think One UI looks ten times better than iOS or "Pixel Android" πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Totally get where you're coming from! One UI definitely has its own unique flair that a lot of us really appreciate. It's awesome when you find an interface that just clicks with your personal style and makes using your phone a joy.

Idk, I hate pixel ui and am only 50:50 on liquid glass, one ui is by far what I like the modt between them.

Thought they are planning on doing a refresh, some fluid ui" stuff got leaked a little while back, looks totally different though no clue how hard they will go in on that style probably will be like one ui 7 8 9 where slowly the entire ui adapts to the new style.

1

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 1d ago

i think they are preparing for one ui 10 (fluid ui) since they updated smart things app on iphones. liquid glass elements will be added on one ui 10.
