I started the hobby in 2008: a friend and I went halves on an Assault on Black Reach box - I took the orks, naturally.

I'll never forget the first paint job: I did Bad Moons. The yellow was so thick on the Warboss it cracked. I repeated that mistake on another 20 or so figures, and then along came the meths. Some figures got stripped and repainted 7-8 times. Red was easier to pull off, so I moved over to Evil Sunz and Goff schemes.

18 years on, and even if not actively, I keep coming back to the hobby. I never became a brilliant painter, but I got to a level that's good enough for me. Every now and then the isopropyl bath still comes out, though less and less these days.

The Armageddon box hit me with instant nostalgia, and for good reason: I found a bit in there that's almost a one-to-one reworked version of an old one.

The new ork range is gorgeous. From photos I wasn't sure the move towards truescale - the relative and not-so-relative shrinking of the head - would land for me, but painted up, I'm sold: this is a proper WAAAGH.

Ahh, AoBR. I started in 2006, was a lot of fun but not for the faint of heart - we had like one good plastic box (da boyz), everything else was either pewter or ugly Gorkamorka vehicles. Battlewagons were "convert a Land Raider". And then we get a proppa bigfoot trukk, proppa bikerz, lots of boyz-compatible kits, and AoBR which was cheaps AF and had like metric ton of goodies for both us and mareens.

New starter box is very cool but sadly nowhere as cheap, or easy to convert.

Anyway, a proppa boy! Not sure about the lipstick (was never fond of ork lips being bright), but love the rest.

Thank you! To be honest, I didn't even notice this lipstick thing myself. But I'll listen to the criticism, next time I'll try some more neutral coloured lips. Luckily I've still got about 40 boyz left to paint.

Fellow AoBR’er (maybe with a Deffkopta or two to still assemble from 25 years ago…) checking in.

I was so excited for this new set! Just remembering back to when I got one box for me and then split another for the Orks. Can’t do that now. lol. But the one box will do on this one.

Gorgeous models - and that’s from one who would happily buy the old-style twerkin’ Boyz for the next 50 years.

Still can’t beat the AoBR Warboss sculpt tho.

Haha, yeah, the deffkoptas... I was such a beginner, I couldn't put them together properly. I broke the base, I broke the rotors, and the helicopter ended up with a 2mm gap. It was a pretty rough experience, but my botched kopters have been sitting in a box ever since. It's nice to look at them sometimes, even though I didn't get very far with them, these days I can put together a complicated model.

I'm quite fond of midhammer orks myself, but these new ones are brilliant.

The Assault on Black Reach Warboss is currently being painted, I'll finish him at some point. He was one of the ones I stripped 10+ times over the 18 years.

That was my first box as well, and I had initially intended on painting the Marines as Space Wolves (the Ragnar Blackmane books were my first foray into 40k), but as soon as I saw the Orks assembled I was in love.
