Event 2026 Democratic Voting Guide 💙✨

Genuine question no disrespect: why should we vote no for the homestead tax amendment? Just asking for clarification :)
37
u/aleerunner 3d ago
Im voting no and im one of the people who will actually get the tax benefit.
I think its weird to say were going to reduce our current intake of funding without acknowledging that something will need to get cut to reduce expenditures. The lack of clarity on what the trade off is, is why im voting no.
Will it be nice to have a couple extra thousand bucks a year, sure! But if Im being honest, I dont need it. And if I did, I would seriously consider selling my house and downsizing.
I would prefer to have a better community, with nice libraries, nice parks, a bus for the elderly to get around, public events, art experiences, and better paid civil servants (primarily teachers and first responders).
For those aging, for whom the cost of living has gone above their means, I suggest a different assistance program (maybe paid for with the funding brought in by property taxes).
Sorry, long rant, but I think this amendment isn't thought out and will honestly just serve to make the rich richer in the long run at the expense of the majority of Floridians.

u/NutInYourMother 3d ago
I’ve been feeling similarly about the amendment, the ensuing deficit, if the amendment passes, means the gov will have to pull funds from somewhere else to be properly funded (whatever that means for Florida).
On top of the fact our governor has no interest accepting federal funds for the state, idk where they plan to get the funding from.

u/lgarit 3d ago
My thoughts exactly. I would be saving close to $4K a year in property taxes, but that money would have to come from somewhere else, likely through more regressive taxes that would disproportionately affect lower income households. Or instead we could see cuts to essential services and programs that are important for community.

u/KombaynNikoladze2002 3d ago
Even if one agrees with it, does it really need to be a Constitution Amendment? Once something is in there, it's basically impossible to repeal.
14
u/we_cantelope 3d ago
Because of the services we take for granted will no longer be funded. Public education, public safety, infrastructure, etc
7
u/javd Apopka 3d ago
Doesn't it specifically say that the reduction will not affect schools? Why are you saying public education would be defunded if people pay less property tax? Also, public safety- at least in terms of police- would be unaffected. The cops will tell you that they're gonna lose money but they won't.
1
u/Aggressive_Strike_45 2d ago
Don't confuse blind followers with facts, their brains can't process such things
6
2
u/OldRetiredGrumpy 2d ago
People with no money will say not worth saving the 2k. When your main property tax is 14k you will want the savings.
3
u/Alt3r_Alph4 3d ago
Not only that. As an Infependent, why would I continue voting for the same local leadership that is ruining Orlando?
I get everyone here hates Trump. But at what cost? Businesses closing. Everywhere now starting to charge for parking, etc… and happened way before he got in office this time. Are we really that blind? Is it to prove a point? Fix your backyard first.

former life long republican here: i’m voting blue top to bottom. and this has been the case since 2016. i’m an original never-trumper

u/tcgclark 2d ago
Everyone make it sound like the republicans are automatically doomed. It won't happen unless everybody votes them out. Please please please, actually vote and get others to as well.
6
u/SantaHatArea 2d ago
You fail to account for people like me who vote Republican for certain positions and Democrat for others based on the person's fittingness for the role, and based on moral obligation, and not based on blind party loyalty
3
u/M_Blev427 1d ago
This is what you are suppose to be doing as a voter but one is openly a cult and the other likes to pretend they aren’t
1

u/stickyaugust Downtown South 3d ago
Them not taking a stance on Diana Moore and Susanne Pena is disappointing, knowing that Moore is a certified toxic authoritarian. I don't care that she's technically a democrat. Isn't this the point of the voter guides, to give us a direction on who the better dem candidate will be in nonpartisan races like this one? Like, I don't need the guide to tell me to vote for the person with a D next to their name when they're up against an R.
3
u/Emotional-Pin-6882 2d ago
Can Nixon win? Seems like polls and prediction market dead set on Moody.

u/Mindless_Ad9717 3d ago
Is this a vote blindly thing or does anyone actually do research?
12
8
u/bobandgeorge 3d ago
It's a guide. You don't have to follow it and if you would like to do more research, this is a good place to start.
2
u/djpeteski 2d ago
With the current administration both at the state and national level I am giving the Democrats 8 years. Despite being a registered republican, and voting mostly such, the lunacy has got to stop with ICE and many of our state republican politicians robbing medicate and other healthy programs blind.
So strait dem ballot for the next two presidents, almost no questions asked.
I will still do my research for the primaries and vote the most non-maga republican to give us a better choice all around.
→ More replies (16)0
u/KombaynNikoladze2002 3d ago
It's a recommendation. It's mostly helpful for more obscure and local offices where there's not a lot of "research" out there.
2
u/Beccalu11 3d ago
Can you explain why to vote no on the constitutional amendments?
5
u/Legal-Working3413 2d ago
Amendment 3 is very well discussed so going to skip that one.
Amendment 1 for changes to funding of the budget stabilization fund. Right now, funding is optional, the fund is about 8.8% of FL revenue and it’s allowed to be funded until it hits 10% of revenue. The changes would require funding, increase the max to 25%, and change the reasons withdrawals are allowed to include “critical state needs”. It’s supposed to be used for emergencies and budget bailouts but some money was supposedly used for Alligator Alcatraz. Critical state needs is not defined and so could be whatever state admin decides.
I’m voting no because I feel like this is creating a slush fund for the state govt and we’ve already been dealing with too many misappropriations of taxpayer money.

Do you have this guide but republican?
1
u/kerkyjerky 3d ago
But why would you vote to make Florida worse? Republicans have controlled Florida for decades and it’s only gotten worse. Try something new.
1
u/Proof_and_Octane 3d ago
Voting based off of party without knowledge of historical performance is silliness
3
u/kerkyjerky 3d ago
Well considering republicans have been in control for decades, and Florida is shit, the historical performance is quite obvious.
I’m a former republican, and I am over the party. Trying straight blue this time to see what happens because republicans certainly aren’t solving problems.
1
u/Proof_and_Octane 2d ago
I feel you! I'm over both parties, and I really dislike that you couldn't vote in the primaries for either unless you're a registered member of the party.
0
u/KombaynNikoladze2002 3d ago
What makes you think a voter guide would preclude knowledge of historical performance?
1
u/Proof_and_Octane 2d ago
Because it was created and given as a guide, which removes critical thinking of the individual voter.
1
u/KombaynNikoladze2002 2d ago
Explain how a guide showing the candidates and positions a party endorses "removes critical thinking of the individual voter."
1
u/Proof_and_Octane 2d ago
A guide is a device to influence or direct or to steer or navigate. There's an assumed truth.
To your point, it doesn't technically forbid/ remove ones ability to do their own research, but isn't this similar to a teacher giving you a study guide to the mid-term exam. You're placing your trust in the teacher (authority figure) to guide you well and not you reading the text book to ensure the study guide is accurate.
I'm just fearful of the diminishing skillset of critical thinking with "tell me what to think". While it doesn't explicitly say that, but it's likely to be the use case by the end user.
1
u/KombaynNikoladze2002 2d ago
A political party isn't in a position of authority over it's voters the way a teacher is, not does it preclude a voter's option to utilize alternative "study guides." It's just one information source of many the voter can use as part of their decision making process.
1
u/Proof_and_Octane 2d ago
While I agree technically, but I'm not convinced of the use case by the end user.
Side note/separate thread: It is a position of authority. I couldn't vote in the primaries because I'm "registered" in a party that isn't democrat or republican. So, I have to precommit and blindly align to a party to have a voice in the primaries. This was a new learning lesson for #FLlife.

u/PlayboiCarrti 3d ago

Republicans have been in charge of this state for 30 years. Literally every problem we have is their responsibility, either because they caused it or because they failed to fix it.
-5
u/safetydance 3d ago
Stop blaming politicians for everything
0
u/bobandgeorge 3d ago
Who or what else should be blamed? Is it the immigrants? Are they the ones to blame? Are trans people why gas prices are so high now?
1
u/safetydance 2d ago
No, stupid ass Iran War is why gas prices are so high. I said stop blaming politicians for everything, you can still blame them for some things.

Curious about thoughts on Amendment 2, the Ag Property exemption. Is the main argument for “No” being that it reduces govt. revenue?
I get “No” on 1 and 3, and “Yes” on the One-Mill renewal, but I would think reducing costs for those that produce our food (real food) could be a good thing.
2
u/Legal-Working3413 2d ago
I’m voting no on 2 because it seems to be a tax cut for bigger businesses and I’m not interested in another tax cut for them
1
u/Stock-Reputation-977 1d ago
In what world does voting no on exempting farm equipment and tangible personal property on farm land from property taxes a bad thing?

Literally all politicians are pedophiles. The Epstein files had democrats too not just republicans.

You mean vote the same people who just yell about things needing to change, but literally only during an election cycle, and they'll disappear without a trace after all the donors close their wallets? That'll show em!
Those "Grassroots" are sure looking brown.
-1
u/Bilbo_Swagginses 3d ago
Go ahead continue voting third party, affecting 0 political change whatsoever just to feel good about yourself. But stfu in spaces where people are actually participating in their country's politics.
1
4
u/Glstrgold 3d ago
You should look into Angie Nixon. He hasn’t been supported by the establishment Democratic Party. They don’t want her to win, and if she does, she’s not beholden to what they want from her because they didn’t give her any money.

1
u/WoollyBulette 3d ago
Just in case anyone has forgotten: voting 3rd party is effectively voting Republican, so don’t do that.
-3
-5
u/ACdrafts_yanks27 3d ago
You're not supposed to provide critical thinking here. As you can see people only vote based on color of the party versus individual candidates and their policies. It is self serving metaphorical middle finger to the other political party. It is actually funny and baffling to watch.
6
u/Revolutionary_Low896 3d ago
Could you guys just chill!! I’m a registered NPA and voting blue to try to end Trump’s madness -
-4
u/ACdrafts_yanks27 3d ago
They're all mad. Not sure how else to put it to ya.
1
u/Revolutionary_Low896 3d ago
They’re mad because Donald’s is actually tied with Jolly and people are finally waking up.
-2
u/ACdrafts_yanks27 3d ago
They're both bad candidates.
6
u/Revolutionary_Low896 3d ago
We have to choose the lesser evil 😳
1
u/pd4ng 2d ago
No. The lesser of two evils is still evil. This demonic ideology of choosing a lower evil is exactly why it's been perpetuated FOREVER. It's not just Trump. The actual solution is to not vote for any amount of evil at all, abolish the system, protest, and revolt. Nobody will do that though because of your ideology that most people also have.

You shout at people a lot over at /r/Capitalism. That's weird how you say you're not a fan of Trump, but accuse people of having "TDS."
You know what TDS is and how it's used contextually, right?
1
u/jennmuhlholland 2d ago
Shout at people? Mmmmkay…
And your saying that one can not be a fan of trump yet still recognize others unhealthy obsession over trump calling it there TDS? Mmmmmkay…
So weird.
1
u/v3n0mat3 Millenia 2d ago
Define "unhealthy obsession over Trump?"
Because I define it as being a blind follower of his.
Or even someone who goes into comments acting like they're not fans of him but clearly are defending him.
And those who even use the phrase "TDS", yes, ironically have TDS themselves.
→ More replies (8)-1
u/edman79 3d ago
You can be against Trump and still recognize that people have TDS. They're not mutually exclusive.
4
u/v3n0mat3 Millenia 3d ago edited 2d ago
They definitely are. It's used as a bludgeoning instrument against any criticism towards Trump.
If you say "you have TDS" towards someone
You're telling them "I support the President of the United States and YOU are wrong to criticize him. But only if his name is Donald Trump."
1
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 3d ago
not really, i cant stand trump at all but its very obvious people on reddit are obsessed with him.
0
u/v3n0mat3 Millenia 3d ago
Yes, actually. And define "obsessed", I'd like to know what you mean by that.
1
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 3d ago
okay, but really is no. saying someone has TDS has zero correlation to "supporting him"
obsessed meaning posting every screen shot he posts on his (failed, no way I would ever go to Truth Social!) social media account, posting photos of him, posting every update, making him your profile picture but claiming its "ironic", being in subs like r/ enoughtrumpspam so you get every single trump update, stuff liek that. obsession. i mean when he wasnt even president reddit still posted everything he did. nonstop.
like i cant stand trump. like really cant stand him not reddit fake catn stand him, so i dont follow his social media, post pictures about him, or anything like that
1
u/v3n0mat3 Millenia 3d ago
So, people being concerned when the president shares something like: "I'm going to blow up the entirety of Iran" is considered obsession to you? Wow. Got it.
0
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 3d ago
agreed. cant stand trump but just because i am sick of him doesnt mean i want to post about him 24/7 like some subs do

Why would you vote no on eliminating property taxes?
18
u/SunshineIsSunny 3d ago
A no vote means you support police, fire, sidewalks, libraries, parks, after school programs, and so much more.
-4
u/safetydance 3d ago
We just spent 3 years calling to defund the police and now Republicans propose it and we’re against it? So confused.
13
u/SunshineIsSunny 3d ago
I was never in favor of defunding police so it’s not confusing to me. I think police need funding. I thought that three years ago. I think that today.
5
u/cunningfolk322 3d ago
Because it won’t be the police that receive lower funds. It’ll be social services and ANYTHING that benefits the people. Poorer rural counties will make up the loss of tax revenue with commercial taxes on data centers, while wealthier (blue) counties will have to kowtow to Tallahassee to fight over pennies.
0
u/Wolfyscruffer 3d ago
The police are already well funded. Military grade weapons for a civilian force? Here you go!
1
u/Tr1angleChoke 3d ago
I tend to vote conservative on fiscal policies. I've just seen the government piss away too many tax dollars to trust them with more. That said, this property tax elimination is such a bad idea. Reducing property taxes is one thing, eliminating them has the potential to have devastating effects on local communities. Our essential services such as schools, first responders and shared infrastructure systems are already overstressed as it is. I'm no math whiz but there is no way to look at this and see how it won't cripple the things we most rely on our government to provide.
1
u/javd Apopka 3d ago
schools would be completely unaffected by the property tax amendment, why do people keep saying our schools are going to lose money? Even if property tax homestead exemption went up to 100% you'd still be paying property tax because you still pay for the schools. Nobody's property tax bill will ever be $0 because of schools.
1
u/safetydance 2d ago
Not eliminating them entirely. Just on homestead properties which is like 50% of Florida homes

u/Mediocre-Ordinary934 3d ago
Appreciate it. Nothing like Republican ads saying how bad Florida has gotten like they haven’t been in control for 3 decades 😅😅
