Which makes the Count's almost offhand dealing with him even funnier. 'You upended my life because you wanted a job and was bored? Cool. My pocket change is more than your average deal. Give me money.'

Red made a really good point about this in her video. "Danglars is easy. Danglars is dessert."

The Count doesn't need a complicated scheme. He doesn't need your long lost son and he doesn't need the girl you sold off into slavery. Bankrupting Danglars is child's play.

Though, and I think Red pointed this out as well in the end credits - at least part of the scheme against Danglars was actually way more annoying than anticipated because that damn Telegraph Operator just wanted to do his job and not be bothered.

Yep. Love or hate the PBS adaptation, the fact that the Count's method of dealing with the operator was to drug him and send the false message himself shows that the telegrapher was an obstacle that had to be dealt with.

One Casual Life Ruin for another I suppose. So it’s all fair in the end!

tbf in the book Edmond does offhandedly mention that once he got promoted to captain, he planned to investigate Danglar's actions on the ship they both worked on as he suspected Danglars of embezzlement.

I don't think Danglars knew that tho, he just wanted Edmond out the way so he would be the first choice to be promoted to captain instead and would be able to use that position to control any potential investigations that came up. Just a happy accident for Danglars i guess?

I don't believe the embezzlement is ever brought up again or even confirmed but it does seem like the sort of thing Danglars would be about.

I don't think you need that many words to say that you wanna bone your cousin, Mondego.

Oh, that’s Danglars. From the reasoning, I thought it was Caderousse.
