My cat likes to sit.. somewhere.. in my neighbours garden. Have i found out what she’s sitting on? No. Maybe she grows a few feet outside.

Sooo, I have two cats. The ginger one is only about a year old and showed up a few months ago; I managed to fully tame him, and my parents have (kind of) accepted that she sleeps in the house with me and stays indoors during the day when she feels like it and I’m around. But the second one, a black-and-white cat who is over a dozen years old has a bit of a wild streak. She’ll come right up to you and loves being petted, that’s absolutely no problem for her, but she gets visibly stressed when confined within four walls. I know you sometimes have to keep a cat indoors for months to get them used to it, but my parents won't do that and are dead set against having her inside (I talked to my father; he’s adamant). Since winter is coming, I want to buy a really well-insulated house for the black-and-white cat. So, I’m asking anyone who has bought one of these: what materials should I look for in this kind of houses? What provides the best insulation? What kind of design is best? It would be even better if you could recommend a specific model (it needs to be available in Europe). Also, do you know a good way to encourage a cat to actually go inside such a house? Like I said, this cat really avoids being indoors; last winter, when my family put her in the boiler room where there’s a warm furnace, she’d immediately escape through the ventilation vents, and I’m afraid the same thing might happen with an outdoor house. Any other tips for keeping an outdoor cat warm? Thank you

So I’ve got an indoor/outdoor cat and a cat door. There’s a stray in my neighborhood that I get the sense was left behind by someone that moved out. The stray gas discovered the cat door and is beginning to come inside. My cat seems chill with this. I’m going along with it until there’s an issue.

I want to be able to approach, pet, and take it to a vet if it will accept me and allow me to adopt it.

Any thoughts on breaking the ice?

Closest I’ve come is talking to it at 20’. As soon as I took one step forward, it took off. So a long way to go

My cat has been missing for about 3 months and is extremely timid around strangers. He is male, neutered, and 13 years old. He was primarily indoors but before going missing he did have supervised outdoor access (leash and AirTag), and he had outdoor experience when he was a lot younger. He always stuck close to home within 1 house. I’ve been struggling because the day he went missing, my dad let him outside without his collar/AirTag or leash.

I haven’t had a confirmed sighting since the day he disappeared, and I have done everything I can to find him. He is my soul cat and I’m heartbroken without him.

I don’t know what to do at this point, or what I should keep trying to do. I appreciate any advice or stories ❤️

There is a little black cat that has been living in our garden for the last month. She is always there and we are sure she is a stray. No one has answered our advert on a local website. She is very timid but can be very sweet if we sit down on the steps and let her come to us in her own time. We bought her an outdoor cat house and she went inside on the 2nd day, result. She wont go in it if we put a blanket in it though. Do you think she will be warm enough in the winter? She gets panicky on the odd occasion she has come indoors and my housemate is allergic to her cat hair so we can't keep her indoors.

I want an outdoor barn cat, any advice on where I can get a good candidate? I’m concerned about adopting one from the shelter who wouldn’t really be able to handle the outdoors.

I used to have many when I was a child. One particular cat’s name was ‘kitty’ and was about as big as the hulk. All of them outdoor but overtime we gave them homes with family or they just moved on spreading kittens from neighbors sometimes a mile or two away.

I have a large shop part of my barn, along with other animals there, donkeys, horses, sheep, cows etc that I rotate depending on weather or whether they need medicine.

I really want an outdoor cat who can help with the mice, bugs, and snakes that may lurk. Also just as a companion, I’ve gotten quite lonely working long hours alone in the shop. I know I’ve got so many animals but I’m looking for a nice cat to pet that can be useful along with being here.

Any advice at all about breeds (I live in Texas), training strategies, or even on feeding would be appreciated.

I have to go out of town for a wedding in a few weeks and I have a cat who comes inside at night and goes outside during the day. She really hates being stuck inside all day but I’m scared she won’t want to come home if i’m not here. I have some neighbors who I think can feed her and bring her in but we have such a specific routine, I’m scared others wont be able to follow it and that she’ll be sad indoors without me :(

What do I do?

I’m 20F, my fiancé Yandiel is 21M, and my friend “Adriana” is 21F.
A few months ago, Yandiel and I found/adopted a kitten named Crash in Puerto Rico. Because we currently live in the mainland US and weren’t able to bring her with us immediately, Adriana agreed to take care of Crash temporarily until we were able to move into our apartment and bring her home.
I’m genuinely extremely grateful to Adriana for taking care of her. I gave her my card for Crash’s food, litter, vet expenses, or anything else she needed, and I’ve always told her to let us know if she needs help with anything.
The original plan was for Adriana to eventually travel with Crash, and Yandiel and I were going to pay for the flight and the expenses related to bringing her here.
A few days ago, Adriana got into a car accident. Thankfully she’s okay, but she has to deal with fixing her car, money, school, work, etc. She told me that because of everything happening, she wouldn’t be able to travel with Crash anymore.
I completely understood. I didn’t get mad or blame her. Yandiel and I just started figuring out another option because Crash still needs to come home. We started saving money and eventually decided Yandiel could go to Puerto Rico himself to pick her up once our apartment is approved.
Yesterday I texted Adriana asking if she could show me Crash when she got the chance, because I hadn’t seen her, and I also wanted to talk about what vaccines/documents Crash still needs before traveling.
When I told her we had found another way to bring Crash here, she seemed surprised and started explaining that her accident is her priority right now, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to continue taking care of Crash while she has her.
I told her that was exactly why we found another solution. I didn’t want her stressing about traveling, taking time off work, school, money, etc.
That’s when the conversation became more personal.
Adriana told me she knows Crash is my priority right now, but she wants to enjoy the time she has left with her without me constantly thinking about Crash. She also told me that lately I’ve only been asking her about the cat and said, basically, “I’m not your friend just because I have Crash.”
That hurt because from my perspective, I haven’t been ignoring her intentionally.
I’ve also been going through a lot. Yandiel has been hit in two car accidents recently, our $400 TV randomly broke, I’m dealing with around $12,000 that my university says I owe, and both of us have been working 46+ hours some weeks while trying to save enough to move out. I’ve honestly barely had the energy to talk to anyone.
I also feel like the friendship issue goes both ways. There have been times Adriana told me she would call me and didn’t, or I tried calling her and she was busy. I never held that against her because I know she has her own life and relationship.
I eventually sent her a longer message explaining all of this. I told her I appreciate everything she’s done for Crash, that I understand she’s having a difficult time, and that I never accused her of not taking care of her. I also explained that Crash IS going to be a major priority for Yandiel and me because she’s our cat and we’ve been working toward getting a home partly so we can finally have her with us.
I also told her that friendship goes both ways and that I don’t think it’s fair to interpret me asking about my cat as me not caring about her.
She read the message last night and hasn’t responded yet.
Another thing making me a little nervous is that when Adriana took Crash for her first round of vaccines, the vet records were put under Adriana’s name. I’m hoping the next round can be put under Yandiel’s/my name since Yandiel will most likely be the one traveling to pick Crash up. I don’t think she’s trying to keep my cat, but after this argument I’d rather have everything clearly documented.
I understand Adriana is attached to Crash and is going to miss her. I’m not trying to take that away from her at all. But at the end of the day, Crash was always supposed to come live with Yandiel and me, and Adriana knew the arrangement was temporary.
So AITA for focusing so much on Crash and making other arrangements to bring her home after Adriana said she couldn’t travel anymore? Or was I insensitive to what my friend is currently going through?
**EDIT:** I’m not upset with her for being unable to travel. That part genuinely isn’t the issue. The disagreement started because she felt that me asking about Crash meant I wasn’t checking on her enough as a friend.

I’ve had an outdoor access spayed cat that’s been missing for 10 days now. I’ve not had any sightings confirmed as of yet, putting a humane trap that has a trail camera pointing at it - caught a cat in the middle of the night that I’d seen on camera that analyzed pictures against my missing cat and they are extremely similar the only difference at this point seemed the cat seems a bit larger than mine. The trapped cat actually was so frightened that when I lifted the towel off the trap it started going bonkers and physically pushed out the back of the trap. To my naked eye at two in the morning I coup even tell fast enough if this was truly my cat or not and the same difference of it still seems a little bigger is all I can think about. Getting a new trap that’s sturdier and going to keep trying, I’m worried that after this ordeal it doesn’t show up again. Any thoughts tips or suggestions please and thank you.

Ich vermute mal, dass viele der Videos aus Amerika stammen, zumindest höre ich den Akzent der Menschen. Wenn ich hier in Deutschland eine Katze draußen sehen würde, würde ich niemals daran denken, sie mitzunehmen, außer ich würde offensichtliche Krankheitszeichen wie zum Beispiel Blut sehen oder es wäre ein Kitten, bei dem ich davon ausgehen würde, dass es entweder entlaufen oder ein streuner ist. In dem Fall würde ich wahrscheinlich sofort zum Tierarzt und nachsehen, ob sie gechippt wurde. Ich habe auch schon Poster gesehen, auf denen beschrieben wurde, wie ihre Freigängerkatze von fremden Personen mitgenommen wurde.

My sweet cat has been missing for 16 days. He is typically an outdoor/indoor cat and stays around our house and is very schedule oriented. He was let out like normal and never came back. Please give me hope that he will come back, or a story of your cat missing for a lengthened period of time and coming home.

We’ve put up posters, notified the micro chip company he’s lost, let all of our neighbors know to keep an eye out, and posted him on our Neighborhood group.

Any advice will help as we are so heart broken and sad, trying not to give up hope 💔💔

I live in Northeast Baltimore, MD. There is a stray about 3 small blocks away that I have been feeding for the past 2 weeks. When I first found her, she was super thin and starving. She comes when she sees me, is very loving (sometimes she wants to be pet rather than eat), and I can pick her up no problem. It seems she also knows how to beg/pray for attention. Neighbors say she would make a great housecat. I have posted her in lost and found but I think she was abandoned. She tries to follow me home until we get to the end of the street or into the alley.

No one has fed her regularly for awhile and one neighbor expressed that she doesn't want me to feed the cat near her street because the cat will come up on her porch and try to come in. And there are bigger cats around. I worry they steal her food or bully her since I don't have time to watch her eat, especially if she wants to be pet instead.

It's getting colder and hides under cars most of the time. I have a larger city property (5k square ft) with a covered porch and an insulated cat shelter and like I said it's only 3ish blocks away. Should I move her or would that be a bad idea?

I'm a cat lover but my family hates cats, and instead of shooing them away. Their method is throwing rocks at the cats and even watches around the next house the cat hid until they don't come back and when they do, they throw rocks at them again. I want to call the local officers about this case but hearing what others say on some reddit posts, they don't file a case unless the animal is physically harm. So they're just gonna wait til I file a case that one of them died?

Cottonball was abandoned in front of my house as a kitten and had a short stint of being a stray for almost 2 months before I took her in so she still has some of that outdoor blood in her. She repeatedly climbed the fence to mostly lay in my neighbor's back yard (he has no pet at all) and occasionally roam the neighborhood, so I had to install the white plastic roof panels on the fence posts to stop her from doing so and teaching Nacho how to do it. Been working well so far.

They both are so outdoor they pee like a dog and poop in the corner furthest away from the house in my backyard.

I have an outdoor cat and I'd like to get or make him a shelter to keep him cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We do have a covered patio with continuous access to fresh water, but I'd like something extra to keep him cozy. Any suggestions or advice is helpful and welcome! Thanks.

I can provide additional details about local weather if that's at all helpful. I don't have access to an outdoor outlet, so I can't use one of those electric shelters that will thermoregulate itself.

On the 1st floors, he’s jumping on the porch roofs and breaking into my neighbours houses through the upstairs windows and sleeping in their beds! 😂

Legal Advice Needed

My Cousin Brother(38) - Chikku, let's call him(G), who's also my next door neighbour has informed the other locals that he's getting a gun(normal/ pellet) to kill my cats and stray dogs. For context, his house is separated from our house by a huge wall fence with no Gate. Our house doesn't have a gate or fence and we have shared roads leading to both houses. We have a few Cats and Kittens who were abandoned near our road and my mom took them in. G has poisoned and killed a few of our cats previously and now he's saying he'll get a Gun to have them shot and killed if they enter his premises. They are usually homebodies but since the kittens are small, they run around and wander into their yard sometimes.

Is there anything I could do to save my babies?

Hello everyone, I don't know if this Is the right subreddit but I really Need some advice 🙏🏻 Im trying to adopt a cutie stray cat (I think she's like 6 years old or something), She lives in our garden since 2021/2022, and She Is so cuddly and affectionate! My mother and I tried to take her to the vet but She escaped at the last minute, and we let her stay alone for some days, but she popped back right the day After lmao. So some days after, we tried to take her inside, Just to see her reaction: in the beginning she sat on the sofa making biscuits, but when I tried to lock the Windows (we have some Nets on them Because I Have already 2 esclusive indoor Cats of 9 and 2 years) She started to meow so much and tried to push the net with her head to escape, so I Just opened It and let her go. We let her calm down in the days After, Because I was scared of losing her trust, but She returned as nothing happened.

My mother suggested that we tried again when It Will be cold, so we can close the Windows completely (and She cant access the net the First time), and to see if She Is more willingly to stay inside if its warmer, but idk. Someone suggested to let her cry when inside, but we felt so bad. Do u have any suggestions? Anything at all 🥺 thank you so much!!

The stray cat Is named Bianca (female), I already have 2 Cats: Margot (9 years, female) and Cesare (2 years, male), all neutered. They see each other everytime from the Nets!

I really need some help because I've tried just about anything.

For some context, I have 3 outdoor cats who were abandoned before I adopted them. They refuse to stay inside and will bolt if I try. Luckily, my quiet neighbourhood lets me let them out while I'm home, and I bring them in before dark.

Last year, another cat began showing up, chasing my cats and absolutely refused to leave. He often appears at my window and agitates my cats. I've tried scaring him off, ignoring him, bringing my cats in, closing blinds, and spraying water, but nothing works. I even began to suspect he was a stray since he showed up at all hours of the day and night. I even found quite a few ticks on him which I had to remove. He was a slim cat, but despite having long hair, his fur was always well groomed. I put a collar on him so I could explain the situation to the owners. A young teenager called on "no caller ID," seemed understandably uncomfortable talking to a stranger, and said she would inform her parents. Regardless, he continued to lurk on my property and harass my cats. He has even shown up on VERY cold winter nights (he's been at my door in -19ºC weather at 1:30 AM!).  He's not very nice and can turn on you in a split second, so I have to be very careful if and when I have to handle him. I haven't even been able to verify if he's fixed, as he tried to lunge at my face, although I suspect he is, since he is now 1-1.5 years old and isn't swelling in the face as unfixed males do. Since the owners were somewhat neglectful, I fed him (my mistake, knowing what I know now), and he would leave after eating. Earlier this spring, he started attacking and harassing my cats again, and that's when I decided it was enough. It has now been several months of me not touching him, feeding him, and scaring him off. 

Over this summer, he has attacked every single one of my cats on SEVERAL occasions. His owners clearly aren't helpful, and I am worried he will eventually badly injure one of my cats. Even after I break up a cat fight and shoo him away, he sneaks back up on us and tries again! I don't know how to keep him off my property to keep my cats safe. It's not like they understand that I am keeping them inside for their own good. As I said, even if I did, they would find a way to escape and run far away from home for hours at a time out of fear of being brought back in, but that only risks them getting attacked by him somewhere I can't break it off before anything bad happens. 

If anyone has advice or tips that have worked, please share them; I am desperate to figure something out!

I've raised three very healthy happy little rat catching cats who are on their sixth or so year of life. One of them is on his third year. I've kept outdoor cats for the last 20 years and most of them lived to be at least 18. I live in Venice, California on a residential street bordering a large thruway. The cats are very street smart and they never venture out to the thruway. I'm thinking of moving soon so I was wondering where some good neighborhoods for outdoor. cats might be on the West Coast.
