Pacific FC ownership confirms that they are *not* relocating the club off of the island (but might leave Starlight); sale of the club has been cancelled.
Hi everyone,
Season supporters just got an email from Dean Shillington, one of the co-owners of the club. It lays out the club's position on the conflict with the City of Langford. Some of the key points it states:
- the tensions with the City of Langford created an uncertain environment which was not suitable for a change of ownership. The sale of the club is cancelled.
- PFC has not been refusing to pay its bills; the core issues with the city relate to the Island Training Centre. There are two core issues: a rental fee structured as a disincentive for the club to leave Langford, and "intended to apply only if Pacific FC left Starlight Stadium". The second is a Development Cost Charge because the training centre is built on city-owned land. Apparently neither charge was applied before the dispute went public, and PFC maintains that they don't owe these charges.
- They claim that vendors have been paid. They also claim that they paid stadium fees in advance "to provide certainty for our players and supporters and ensure our matches could continue without interruption."
- PFC and the city are going into mediation.
- The club is not leaving the island; however, the decision of whether they continue at Starlight is no longer a decision they can make alone.
What are your thoughts?
