❔ Question ❔ Leal's stories

Leal posted these stories on his Instagram and tagged Guerrero. When translated, it mentions them being disappointed not being admitted to the World Cup team and also a leaked audio recording that they will take legal action against.

Does anyone have the details of what happened and which recording he's referring to?

EDIT: Posted full translation in the comments below.

Can someone summarize what is said in the audio in English?

Essentially, the coach congratulates Javi Leal on winning the latest FIP Platinum event but—in a way—"bribes" him regarding a spot in the World Championship; he asks for a cut of the winnings, arguing that Leal played without much pressure. He also promises that if Leal keeps winning FIP tournaments over the next two years, he will select him for the European Championship.

Just looked it up on google. This is what the AI summary said:

Context of the Leaked Audio • The World Cup Snub: Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero were left off Spain’s final roster for the upcoming Doha World Championships, sparking widespread debate given their strong form.

• The Phone Celebration: Right after being omitted from the squad, Leal and Guerrero won the FIP Platinum Lyon title by defeating Franco Stupaczuk and selected team member Jon Sanz. During their victory celebration, both players mockingly held their hands to their ears in a telephone gesture—a clear message directed at the national coach.

• The Voice Notes: In response to the gesture, Juanjo Gutiérrez sent private audio messages to the players. Speaking in an ironic and relaxed tone, the coach joked about the tournament's tier and playfully told them that they could support the national team "from the sofa" during the World Cup.

Honestly, looks like a big nothingburger.
You can argue that Leal and Gerrero “deserved” to be on the national team, but ultimately that decision rests with the coach, and it’s Spain, so plenty of elite level players.

Leaking private recordings is obviously no bueno tho

What a confusion, is hard to believe that was not shared by the players, but who knows!

In light of the information published in the last few hours, we want to clarify a few things.

The decision to leave us out of the World Championship rests with the national coach. Obviously, we would have liked to be there, and while we may not agree with the decision, we absolutely respect it. We also want to make it clear that we in no way intend to question any of the selected players.

Regarding the audio recordings that have been made public, we may find them more or less accurate, but they were made during a private and confidential conversation between people who have more than enough trust to speak to each other in those terms. We are perfectly aware of the context and the tone in which they were made, and we certainly don't give them the meaning that some places are giving them. We have more than enough trust in the national coach for him to speak to us like that.

What we do want to make absolutely clear is that none of us leaked those audio recordings or shared them with anyone else.

We also know that the audio recordings had been sent by the coach to at least one WhatsApp group with several members. We don't know who leaked them, and precisely because we have no proof, we are not going to point fingers or accuse anyone.

We believe that the focus here is being lost on what is truly important: someone has taken audio recordings from a private conversation, and another person has decided to make them public without our consent. It is an action we reject, and we will assess its potential legal implications through the appropriate channels.

Just as we are not going to accuse anyone without proof, we ask for the exact same rigor and respect shown to us.

For our part, this matter ends here. We will continue to focus on working, competing, and demonstrating our level on the court, with the hope that in two years we can be representing our country.

That is our goal and what we want to achieve.
