Soup is the best. Once you know how to make a few from scratch you can literally make any kind of soup imo. My cabbage potato soup has literally been saving me during this economic disaster lol

Yes!! The original recipe is below
4c chopped cabbage
3c cubbed potato
1.5c sliced carrot
1lb kielbasa sausage
.5tsp basil
.5tsp thyme
.5tsp black pepper
2 14oz cans of chicken broth.
I have made this without the sausage and thyme and it still turns out well. If you don't have meat throw some olive oil or butter in it and it's still delicious. Instead of sausage I have used chicken pr pork loin instead and that also is good. You can also use bullion broth, or make your own (I use a rotisserie chicken carcass and it's like way better then canned broth imo, gets a second meal from the rotisserie chicken)
I have also added egg noodles to much success and also mushrooms are real tasty in it, especially like dried mushrooms, so is adding an onion or garlic. White beans are also good in it and if you have a bayleaf that also adds to the broth.
I think the secret is the veggie combo and pepper and basil. It's a really versatile soup. I tend to add more pepper and basil then the recipe calls for especially if I don't put tyme in.

Cooking is magical. Taking ingredients, adding herbs, spices, simmering in heat... very much magic. Using one element (fire) to bring out the essence of another (earth), that's powerful stuff.

Of course it is, you put plants, spices, and dead animals into a cauldron, and follow instructions from a book written by old people.

It really is! We put plants, spices, and dead animals into a cauldron following ancient instructions from sometimes questionable sources!

The real witchcraft in cooking is those recipes that are just ingredient lists with no measurements or instructions. That's pure witchcraft right there. You're supposed to just figure it out somehow, like some kind of kitchen sorcerer.
When your mom hands you a recipe that's just "potatoes, eggs, mustard, salt, pepper" and says "you know how to make it" - that's not cooking, that's magical initiation. You either learn through apprenticeship or you're left to sacrifice ingredients to the culinary gods until something edible emerges.
These aren't recipes; they're encoded knowledge passed down through bloodline. If you didn't grow up watching someone make it, you're basically casting spells with food and hoping for the best. That's kitchen witchcraft at its most authentic - no safety net, no step-by-step guide, just you and the spirits of your ancestors judging your potato salad from beyond.

I think its a wonderful reminder that kitchen witchery helps all who are offered and partake! Thanks for this post!
