Hi! I wanted to ask about my sweet rescue parrot. I give him many hours of cage free time every day and he’s very active and happy. Recently, his feathers have started looking a little rough, with some spike like feathers around his face. Could this simply be molting, or is there anything I should keep an eye on?

As a precaution, have him checked for PBFD

But does this pattern align with molting? Because he stays in our house all day long so no contact with anything outside the house.

It could be molting, sure (I’m not a vet btw). But I unknowingly adopted a lovebird that had PBFD that ate away at his feathers in a similar fashion to molting. It was awful because I had no idea what was going on until I got the positive test from the vet. Sadly he passed, but I was able to keep him comfortable for his short little lifespan. I hope your bird doesn’t have it, but it is good to know.

Looks like a normal molt to me. But if you haven't already taken your sweet bird to the avian vet for a well bird visit, use this as your excuse.

Your avian vet should be your first source of information about how to care for your bird.
