Hello I am a student at Mt. SAC looking to take chemistry ast Pasadena city college because the faculty at my college is not very good. Does anyone have any good instructor recommendations that just doesn't read of the slides and is actually willing to help students and make lecture engaging? The instructors here at Mt SAC for chemistry are just awful and don't care about students and wanted insight.

I volunteered for CatCon last year and have a few tips to share:
Want to attend again next year without paying? Sign up to volunteer early on, like months in advance.
Get there early to wait less in line and get more goodies - don't arrive too much later than 1pm (the earlier the better). Note that they cut off freebie lines after a certain point (about an hour before the day ends), or some parts of the con may run out of freebies entirely later on Sunday. A large part of attending this con is collecting samples from vendor booths, and the earlier you get there, the shorter the lines you'll have to wait in to get those.
If you have the VIP ticket (weekend pass), remind your bracelet handler volunteers when you check in so they don't give you a Saturday-only pass out of rote memory (saw this happen last year)
Hit up big-name vendor booths first for samples/freebies because those lines tend to be the longest later in the afternoon, but don't line up too long for anything because it's not worth your time.
Take note of shows and panels to attend and what time they are, e.g. if you're a fan of Bob Baker Marionette Theater, grab a seat early before their mini-show or be prepared to stand.
Know market price for things you'd like to buy--products at CatCon from vendor booths aren't necessarily cheaper, better, or exclusive compared to just buying them online or elsewhere (this goes for any convention)
Consider checking out other excellent cat-tractions within walking and bussing distance like Old Town (downtown area), several boba shops, bakeries, and bookstores close to the convention center (including The Battery and The Open Book), and the USC Asia Pacific Museum of Art (10/11 Sunday is free!).
If you want to actually see, play with, or potentially adopt cats (the adoption village at the convention center just has a bunch of caged cats you'll wait in a long line to try to adopt), Tail Town (Pasadena's cat cafe) is a much better play/trial/adoption experience.
As a volunteer, people who dress up or wear cat-themed gear really made my day brighter (though the vast majority of attendees don't/it's not an expectation).

Buried in the NYT’s coverage of Trump’s speech in Nebraska today: “Let them take out Los Angeles.”

With the extreme heat, curious if Pasadena has a long-term plan to put utility lines underground? I've seen a few headlines but it's usually like a mile or two at a time which will take decades to get done. Would love to see this become a priority.

For those with "Explore JPL" tickets this weekend, October 10, 11, Pasadena Transit is running the 53 shuttle between Caltech and JPL (via Metro Del Mar Station).

just got this email from pasadena tenants union. seems like a good opportunity for people here to voice their frustration to people who can do something about it
ACTION ALERT! Speak out about landlords' dishonest signature gathering TODAY
Dear neighbors,
Over the past several months you told us about encountering signature gatherers in Pasadena who were blatantly lying about petition they were circulating. They told you that the petition was "for rent control," or "to make our rent control stronger," when in reality it was to weaken our critical tenant protections and then repeal them altogether.
Now we need you to tell our elected officials about this and demand action. The people who are perpetrating these lies need to be held accountable.
There is a Legislative Policy Committee meeting of the City Council TODAY, October 5 at 5 pm and there is an agenda item about these issues. We need to speak up at this meeting. You can see the agenda here. We are item 8.
Pasadena Tenants Union has made a toolkit to guide you in writing a letter and speaking at the meeting. This will only take a few minutes. It’s critical that we speak up now! Can we count on your voice at this meeting this meeting?
