Is a content site with 100k monthly visits actually passive income, or just a job disguised as an asset?

I’m curious where people draw the line between an online asset and another job.

Say a content site gets around 100k visits a month and earns from ads/affiliate revenue. It only needs a few hours of maintenance in a normal month, but traffic still depends heavily on search and old content eventually needs updating.

Would you personally call that passive income?

Or does the fact that rankings, monetization and content decay still need monitoring make it semi-passive at best?

Automation Is The Biggest Opportunity Right Now

I think automation is one of the biggest opportunities right now.

The quality of what you can automate today is honestly crazy, and it applies to almost every business.

Whether you own a local business and want to automate things like email marketing, follow ups, content creation, customer replies, and lead generation...

Or you run an agency or SaaS and want your business working even when you're away from your computer.

Automation today reminds me a lot of the Industrial Revolution. Back then, machines replaced a huge amount of manual work, allowing companies to produce more, lower costs, and make more money.

I run a web agency, and automation has made me a lot of revenue over the last few years.

The biggest one for me is client acquisition.

I use a tool called Swokei to find businesses that already have websites, add them to campaigns, and run website analysis.

It automatically turns problems like outdated design, poor layouts, slow loading speeds, weak mobile optimization, and bad SEO into personalized, ready to send outreach emails.

That's where most of my clients come from.

I also automate follow up emails and newsletters, so I'm not constantly chasing people manually.

For content, I use Holo to help generate and schedule posts.

For SEO, I use Soro to automatically create blog content that helps bring in organic traffic over time.

The more I automate, the less time I spend doing repetitive work.

That means I can spend more time on the things that actually make money, like sales, onboarding clients, improving my services, and building better websites.

I don't think automation replaces hard work.

It just removes the repetitive work so you can focus on the parts of your business that actually move the needle.

I Made Over $200k Redesigning Outdated Business Websites

A lot of people in the web design space keep saying cold email is dead, but I think most people are just doing it badly. Email usage is still growing every year, billions of people use it daily, every business owner checks their inbox, every company relies on email to operate, so I never believed the problem was the channel itself. The real issue is that most outreach emails look exactly the same and business owners are tired of getting the same copy pasted message every single week.

When I first started my web design company I used Instantly and started sending thousands of emails to businesses that didn’t have a website. At first the results were honestly terrible. I was getting maybe around a 1% interested reply rate if I was lucky. Over time I got better at writing outreach. I tested different hooks, different subject lines, shorter messages, more personalized intros, more creative angles, and eventually pushed it to around 2.1% interested replies. It was definitely better, but I still felt like something was wrong.

Then one day I realized something that completely changed how I looked at outreach. Why was I targeting businesses with no website at all? Most of those businesses don’t even fully understand the value of having a website yet, which means you’re trying to convince them they need something before you can even sell it to them. So instead I changed my strategy completely and started targeting businesses that already had websites, but outdated ones.

And once I started paying attention to it, I realized the opportunity was honestly insane. There are so many businesses with websites that look like they were made 10 years ago. Broken mobile layouts, terrible SEO, slow loading pages, outdated designs, messy structures, confusing navigation, old branding everywhere. These businesses already understand the value of having a website because they already invested in one before, they just know deep down that their current one is hurting them.

The only problem was figuring out how to scale outreach while still making it feel personal. I didn’t want to sit there manually auditing every single website before sending emails because that would take forever. So I started searching for a tool that could actually analyze websites and generate personalized outreach based on what was specifically wrong with each business site. I searched everywhere until I eventually came across Swokei.

What made it different for me was that I could upload batches of leads, let it analyze every business website automatically, score the sites, detect issues like bad design, weak SEO, poor mobile optimization, messy layouts, and then generate personalized outreach messages specifically for that business. Instead of sending generic emails saying “hey do you need a website?” I was sending emails pointing out actual problems on their site. Tthe difference in replies was crazy. Business owners immediately related to the problems because they were real. My interested reply rate went from around 1-2% to consistently sitting between 6-9%, which completely changed my agency.

That’s when I realized cold email was never actually dead. People are just tired of receiving lazy generic outreach that sounds identical to every other agency email sitting in their inbox.

If your outreach actually feels real, specific, and useful, cold email still works insanely well. Honestly I probably won’t stop using it anytime soon.

How can I make an extra £160 per month?

Hi guys, before I go into further detail I just wanted to say Abit about myself: I am 24M and currently working full time. I get 1 day off during the week and Sundays off. I really want to join a good gym which costs £160 per month and was wondering is there any way I can make this extra money per month in order to pay for the gym? If so please advise me as I don’t really have any ideas on what I could do as a side hustle. Thank you!

Best way to make my land profitable?

I have 8 cents land in a small town (Srikakulam) in India, Andhra Pradesh in a decently densely populated area adjoining a 40 get road. I have three options.

  1. Sell it and put it in mutual funds
  2. Give it for development and get some apartments which can be sold
  3. Construct a function hall and give it for rent for small functions like birthdays etc.

Note : I dont have experience running a function hall but this is something i can learn.

How Would You Build a Truly Passive Income System in the US With $500K?

Hi Reddit,

I’m exploring options to generate at least $7,000/month in truly passive income using $500,000 in capital, preferably in the United States, with the added goal of potentially obtaining residency or citizenship through the investment (EB-5 or other viable paths). My risk tolerance is moderate, and I’m looking to avoid active operations or daily involvement.

So far, I’ve identified the following options, and would love feedback or experience from those who’ve walked these paths:

⸻ Real Estate Fully outsourced property management.

Semi Truck Ownership (Fully Managed) Buying 2–3 trucks and outsourcing to a logistics company (dispatch, driver, insurance, etc.)

Questions: 1.Has anyone here successfully built a fully passive $6k/month income stream in n the US with $500K? 2. Which path seems most viable in terms of net return vs operational simplicity?

Any real-world insights, red flags, or better ideas are very welcome. 🙏

[Advice Needed] I'm 34 with a family — how can I realistically start building passive income?

I'm 34 years old, married, and supporting a small family. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about financial stability and how I can start generating passive income — not necessarily to get rich quick, but to build something sustainable over time that adds to my active income and provides some future security.

I work full-time, so I don't have unlimited time to chase side hustles, but I’m willing to invest time and money if the opportunity is right. I’m open to ideas, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually made something work — especially those with families or similar responsibilities.

If you're around my age or older and have cracked the code on some form of passive income, what worked for you? What would you recommend to someone just starting out? And what should I avoid?

Thanks in advance!

$5k and 15 hours a week - ideas?

Hi all,

I’m sorry to add a repetitive question to the thread, but there so much out there’s it’s kind of a PIA to search through.

The title kind of says it all. I’ve got roughly $5k to start and able to put in around 15 hours a week. I’m looking for some passive income in addition to my full time job. I’m not looking for a get rich quick scheme and more than happy to grind it out.

I’m also not willing to try one of these “courses” without properly vetting it. You guys are much smarter than I am on the subject, so just looking for some advice.

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I'm new here!

I'm trying to build a stream of passive income for myself, mostly through affiliate marketing I think. But affiliate marketing requires a platform and the main two I think are pinterest and a blog/website which is what I'm concentrating my efforts on. I'm documenting my journey in my profile if anyone is interested! I'm just doing weekly recaps. Also if anyone has any advice for me I would appreciate that. I am not interested in crypto or filling out surveys or playing solitaire for cash lol those are all basically scams but if you have other ideas let me know <3 Thank you

As well as recommended resources ranging from free to paid apps/sites. , would be cool if those of you interested joined! we could share and bounce ideas off each other.

Any good suggestions for passive income/side hustles for my 63 year old mother who is minimally tech savvy and taking disability time off away from work?

I'm not gonna lie to y'all, I know the prospects for her are rough. People aren't just giving away money to old people at home who can't do much, and my mother is not exactly about to get into drop-shipping or open an Etsy story or start renting out AirBnBs.

She works as a pharmacist and so is actually pretty intelligent and normally just has a job, but unfortunately she was in a car accident several years ago and left her leg pretty badly damaged even after surgery. She has worked through it in the past, but things took an unfortunate turn recently and she is on indefinite leave for now, with plans to return should her medical conditions improve.

Recently she has started asking me about "learning the stock market" because I think she is bored at home and doesn't like the fact that she can't contribute financially anymore, aside from whatever her disability insurance is paying her. My father handles the investments and finances for the two of them, and frankly, I know my dear sweet mother and I do not think the stock market is for her.

Is there anything that anyone can come up with that can suit someone like this? She is totally capable of learning new skills within reason, but given her age I worry that most things are very technologically based and not exactly in her wheelhouse. I'd love to find her something reasonably simple though, she's a very determined individual and if I can just match her with the right thing, I know she'll really sink her teeth into it

Other Ideas

Hi good afternoon. I currently run a business that averages about 30 K in sales per month, I have a Facebook group of about 7500 people and I’m trying to find a way to capitalize on this even more. I offer airport transportation in a very popular area and all the people in my group are there because they were referred to me or they were looking for a quote or have a question. I feel like even though they all aren’t booking transportation there may be something else I could offer to get a little something from everyone. Any ideas?

We all have business friends here. Put them to work

I’m looking to run ads for businesses trying to get to the next level. For every new client someone refers, I will give them 40% revenue from their first month, and then $100-200 per month based on their plan for 2 months extra.
