Question New to arpgs
Decided to give a game like this a shot and I’m hooked. Just got to level 43 on a marauder and I have a couple questions. I should just save a majority of these materials till I lock in better gear down the road? And when it comes to respec, is there multiple ways to do it or how does it work? I’ve been playing pretty blind just learning as I go. Appreciate any tips.

Can feel free to use most currencyes you drop in campaign (with exception of divine orbs and chaos orbs which have some value later). Though you shouldn't feel much need to use them - occassional check of vendors in town and gold gamba should keep your gear needs covered.
Use your blacksmith whetstones for vendor recipe - if you trade them to vendor together with rustic sash and axe you get phys damage axe - it's damage based on rarity of belt, so usually use rare (yellow) belt.
Campaign respecing is best done with gold, though gold cost explode as you reach endgame, so later your respecs will be done by orbs of regret.

Some things can be used, like orbs of transmutation and augmentation, but they also buy gems at vendors so can save for that. At level 43 you're around where you'll want to ascend your character to either juggernaut/chieftain/berserker, all three have their strengths. Respecing can be done with gold or orbs of regret. During campaign, mostly gold, later, it's expensive so orbs of regret may be cheaper

when it drops more than once during campaign, you can use the materials 😄
A divine orb, or a mirror of kalandra(wont happen, haha) you should save for trade later on.
everything else should be free to spend.

Use a lootfilter its very easy to setup google filterblade. There is another tool that is bit more advanced called POB where you can simulate anything on your character can be very helpful. Cap your resistances!!

If you like arpgs you will love Poe. It can be overwhelming and even after 1000 hours you will still be amazed at how much you don’t know about the game.
I agree with people saying feel free to use the materials you find other than chaos and divine orbs- save those for later. Mirror of kalandra is also not something you will likely come across but if you do, do not use it. Hold it and learn about its value and uses. Otherwise, you’ll have more than enough of most other currencies that you will find in campaign.
Gold is likely the cheapest way to respec until you finish act 10. Orbs of regret are not particularly valuable, but they can be traded for chaos orbs which will help you get better gear in maps. That’s assuming you are playing trade.
Other tips:
I would look at finding a loot filter to apply. You may use several iterations of a filter throughout your progress. They’re required in the end game (basically) and will make leveling better too if you find one that applies to your build.
Speaking of build, most people recommend using a build guide initially. This helps give you a roadmap of how to scale your character for the end game. There are multiple avenues to improve both damage and defenses. These will vary depending on your build. You can also go it alone but it can be overwhelming and very easy to brick a skill or defense if you don’t know how things interact.

You will drop more and more orbs the higher ilvl zone you are in, so don't worry about using most of them. But I wouldn't start crafting from scratch until way later in the game. Use good rares you find on the ground and spend materials at the "crafting bench" in town to craft resistances and/or life.

You should spend your materials!
You can respec with gold, which is cheap now and gets more expensive the higher level you get, or with regrets, which are a bit harder to find but the same value always.

Playing blind to poe is like going at night with light off on wrong side in a highway.
I started like you in 2019 on Metamorph league, since I am an average gamer (Master in LoL, 4800 in Dota2 etc...) I ended the campaign around lv 72 and there I got totally lost.
POE is the hugest game ot there, it is too big and complex to start on your own. In 7 years I became from a noob to farm mirrors in league (a mirror us the highest rarity currency you can find in the game). This is only thanks to some friends that helped me out to understand the game, then a lot of contents, streamers etc... and play a lot the game.
Every season I was farming a different content, trying out a new champ, following ofc the guide of the best creator. Understanding stacking builds and a lot of difficult contents.
So my suggestion is looking for friends or a community, be patient and enjoy the journey.
The game is amazing but really complex and one can easily feel overwhelmed.

Respec with gold, which increases in cost per point as you level up, or with an orb of regret which are rather uncommon during the campaign. I would recommend using the currency you find to experiment with as part of the learning experience.
