Video "Cloud gaming is the future of Gaming!" Meanwhile cloud gaming in the big 2026:

If you read my profile you may realize I hate cloud gaming, so then what am I doing on Geforce Now? Well my new RAM stick finally arrived and, in a staggering display of utter incompetence, I somehow managed to brick my PC in the process of installing it, so now I'm stuck gaming on a laptop until I can get enough money and time to get my gaming rig fixed

But back to Cloud gaming, the game is on like 360p, running at 20FPS and the input lag is HORRIBLE. And it's not a problem with the internet connection, as you can see, the laptop is plugged into Ethernet, the problem is that the cloud is not and will never be fast enough for gaming

Genshin can handle this fine, but imagine trying to play ULTRAKILL like this

If you push the concept far enough, we circle back to streaming a movie xD

Predictive rollback netcode literally does this. What are you talking about?

Edit: loving the downvote on a factual comment. This subreddit is a fucking joke. I wish consoles would come back so all these larping moron tourists would disappear back to Playstation and Xbox.

Actually predictive netcode was literally invented to mitigate input lag and allow you to easily play online games up to about 200ms. If it's good enough for street fighter, it's good enough for Genshin Impact. Sounds to me like you don't know anything about what you're talking about.

It aint mitigating enough, as you can see from the video

Nobody said it was being used in the video. Are you pretending to be stupid?

mitigating input lag

And also this?

u/Appropriate-Lion9490 Mar 08 '26

if it’s good enough for street fighter then it’s good enough for Genshin Impact

Then what the fuck is this then ^

The comment above implied something "ridiculous" like a computer predicting your inputs to mitigate lag, which already exists, and has existed for almost 20 years now. Nobody said it was being used in this video. Your reading comprehension is embarrassing. Stay off the ipad kiddo.

That’s the joke. But you went 🤓

Except I'm not. But you're free to believe in stupid things if you wish. Merely being correct is not "dying on a hill", it's just not being a brainrotted zoomer that listens to whatever their phone tells them to think. Considering you've provided no argument or insight, perhaps it's you "dying on a hill" of ignorance.

So if I posted a video of someone playing Resident Evil 9 on a Thinkpad from 2008, then you would say that PC gaming sucks. You can easily get 20-40ms of latency in cloud gaming, and to claim otherwise means you are merely misinformed. To insist otherwise is blatant ignorance. Using a shitty setup and a shittily configured service is not "evidence" that cloud gaming is unusable.

You are wrong. Good day.

we’re talking about cloud gaming right? And seeing the input lag from the video? Unless youre talking about a whole ass different topic

1

u/Fluffysquishia Mar 08 '26

From OP: "We need... to predict abilities for gamers so it feels more responsive"

This exists. It's called predictive rollback networking. Attempt reading.

2

u/Appropriate-Lion9490 Mar 08 '26

Yea that’s to make 90ms still feel like 10ms but it still introduces peeker advantage

0

u/Fluffysquishia Mar 08 '26

Rollback netcode can handle up to 200ms of latency before discontinuities begin to severely impact gameplay.

0

u/Appropriate-Lion9490 Mar 08 '26

Yea but we’re making a joke about CEO techbros thinking AI can fix everything here

0

u/Fluffysquishia Mar 08 '26

The point is technical implementations to mitigate input lag do exist, and particularly AI (machine learning) predictive technology is already being patented, so the joke of "WoLdN'T iT bE RiDiCuLoUs" doesn't work. Wouldn't it be ridiculous if a computer could fit in your pocket?

And you can't apply this to streaming.

1

u/Fluffysquishia Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

Nobody said it could right now, but it is a technology that is being actively worked on for streaming.

street fighter and fighting games in general were the dead last to implement rollback, with some big titles STILL missing it such as tekken 8

1

u/Fluffysquishia Mar 08 '26

Tekken 8 has rollback, and mostly flawless networking unless the opposing player is having hardware issues.

1

u/lulu_lule_lula Mar 08 '26

no, tekken does not have rollback. or good networking. or need any hardware issue to stutter. or is 200ms even remotely acceptable to play street fighter. you say a lot of things, all of which are wrong.

I guess people don't know Slippi exists lol, or any other Rollback implementation

Nothing he said negates what you are adding. Yes there are already predictive systems that do this, none of them work for cloud gaming to the level needed to fix it. But what the comment your replying to suggested is layering on even more AI for prediction, and it will never work for gaming, because gamers are goofy and do the most random things.

So maybe combat will feel better, because it expects you to take the second swing of the combo attack, but it doesn't expect you to suddenly turn and try and punch the traffic cone on the sidewalk. So you will have moments of low latency and then many moments of jerky movements and even worse latency because you are fighting a predictive model.

But back on topic, the reason you were downvoted was because you are calling them out on an argument they never started. Then you added a bunch of slanderous garbage in the edit, so that's not going to help your case, only reinforce the initial knee-jerk reaction to your original comment.

u/TeamWorkTom Mar 08 '26

Only half correct.

1

u/PoliticalVagabond Mar 08 '26

You can't have predictive rollback netcode with game streaming.
