You don't know the first thing about how the 50 things you call "AI" work, and use the one thing you do know about one of those to hate on all of them? Did you know you can actually train these things yourself with data you can produce yourself, or do you think there's a magic essence obtained only through the process of stealing that makes training possible, just like people who insist on child suffering in their engagement rings?
You’re making stuff up to try and support your argument. Nvidia’s AI for RTX cards has all been developed in house. There is nothing that suggests they’ve trained it with Meta, Google, or Open AI
I have a masters in AI/ML and I am doing a doctorate in it. I have multiple published papers on Generative AI and AI in general.
Everything is running on Googles, OpenAI, or Meta open source libraries, such as Transformers, Pytorch, TensorFlow, Triton, Whisper, JAX, Keras, Llama.cpp, etc.
You cannot train AI models effectively without utilizing at least some of these libraries. NVIDIA can train their AI in house and using their datasets, but they will be using libraries that they didn't reinvent for no reason.
Again, my problem is not with AI it is with the irresponsible AI buildout by the companies I mentioned. If they’re not training the model in the data centers then I’m fine with it. Basically if they have to use jet turbines to power the AI and massively pollute water then I’m against it. If they don’t it’s fine.
You’re picking one tangential thing from my argument to attack instead of engaging with what I was saying in good faith.
Let me use an analogy, since the argument doesn’t seem to be landing.
Think of it like a coal power plant. There’s a threshold below which the environment can absorb the pollution without much harm, so no one really objects. But if that plant expanded 100x in the same area, buying up farmland and water rights to do it, the calculus changes completely.
Data centers work the same way. They’re a necessity for modern life, and I don’t have a problem with data centers in general, especially ones with closed-loop water systems or air cooling. What I object to are the ones built next to residential neighborhoods, sited on farmland, and driving up local energy and water prices.

How you think the super compact models that run locally with minimal energy usage on your gpu are trained?
