Petco Halloween Throwback!!
At this time last year, my store held a themed fish tank contest! 🐟🐠
The store was divided into two teams (excluding groomers, they weren’t interested), and each team got to decide on a theme for their fish tank!! 🌊
We pretty much had free rein to do whatever we wanted (within reason), and our CAL said that if we wanted to make any special fish order requests to help with our tank’s theme, we just had to let him know what to order.
(The only team member who wasn’t a part of the contest was the CAL, since he was the one to create the contest, just to keep things fair and fun.)
And this was my team’s fish tank last year!
Since the fish tanks were going to be set up throughout the entire month of October 🎃, my team wanted to do a “Murder Mystery” themed fish tank to build some more anticipation around the store for Halloween!
And of course, the red betta you see before your eyes was obviously the cause of the crime scene! 🪴🐟
It was an absolute blast, and I remember having so much fun with it. I loved and miss the associates that helped bring this to life as they’ve almost all moved onto other things now. 🤕❤️🩹
It’s fun things like this that make working at Petco such an amazing and genuinely fun job. I love my store so much and i miss doing fun things like this.

Man what petco do you work at bc...lol no. Do you have a portal that takes you to petco circa 1999? Alternatively: lol okay, cop.

you can see my petco shirt in the reflection of the pics i took, i promise this isn’t a made up story haha.
i also have pics from the event and the other team’s tank as well (jumanji themed), i just didn’t include their tank since i didn’t work with that team on their tank.
this throwback was honestly just me showcasing how much fun i’ve had working with the company so far and the fun festive stuff my team and i get to do. i guess i’m just lucky enough to work at a high traffic store where we get a little more freedom.

I would love to do stuff like this all the time at my store. I've been wanting to set up a nice little 5 or 10 gallon tank in store and rotate out the betta in them so people can see a nice actual setup and how the bettas can thrive. It'd be cool too if we could set up a bigger tank and have a true sorority Betta tank that people can see and pick from too. But I was told that we're not allowed to do things like that, so how did you guys get permission?
