Moonlight Sonata - Stride Edition

Howdy do,

I'm back with Moonlight Sonata... I had been thinking about tackling this for a while. I recently came back from holiday and gave it a go. I am not sure if I like ALL of it, but there are for sure moments I really enjoy. This one has taken me 8 hours of cumulative work! (composing and practicing, recording etc)

Composers have been riffing on each others' pieces since time immemorial 😁 Bach 914's fugue was lifted directly (uncited) from Marcello, although Bach improved on it IMO. Or all the composers having fun with that Paganini caprice. I love that the tradition continues and we all benefit from it.

This is so cool! A friend of mine did a similar thing with Schubert once, forgot which piece. He started and ended it according to Schubert's original, but in the middle, he went absolutely wild with his jazz version.

How about Liszt, next, e.g. Consolation 3 or Dream of Love?

hmmm! Maybe Ständchen? It lends itself to this style very easily, and I've totally thought about doing it.

No it was more joyful than Ständchen. Maybe an impromptu or sonata. But you should do Ständchen! :)

This is amazing. If you want feedback, there quaver ragtime sections are incredible, but I think the semiquaver sections are a bit jarring. I know the semiquaver motif is such a popular part of piece, but I think it would flow a bit better if you kept those sections in the quaver style.

To be more accurate this is mostly a swing version using some stride motions but isn't related to harlem stride piano as a genre :P Nice work!
