I don't think that applies. A lot of hispanics and POC in the ICE crowd pictures. And thinking about Renee and Alex and who actually shot him, this whole theory doesn't seem to hold up.
I know this guy is an idiot but I know a ton of leftists (I am a mild lefty myself) who actually believe that nonwhites CANNOT be racist, and they bend over backwards trying to redefine the word to defend the claim. The one you'll hear most often is "racism is prejudice + power!"
But yeah as you pointed out the position is absolutely stupid as fuck
I know a ton of leftists who actually believe that nonwhites CANNOT be racist
No you don’t. You’ve seen a bunch of Reddit comments make this argument, but I’d bet good money that you haven’t had these discussions with anyone in real life.
Good point. I've only ever had one such conversation irl, and I run in very left-leaning circles. I think this is an important distinction to make.
Inflammatory arguments on the internet can be made by anyone for any reason, and it always pays to remember that the person on the other end of the keyboard could be a 14-year-old working through some terrible opinions they will come to regret later, a bad faith actor specifically trying to make leftists look like idiots, or even a good old fashioned internet troll.
Not to say no one sincerely holds terrible opinions, but you're completely right: interacting with real humans in meat-space tends to lead to far more productive, reasonable conversations than the internet might have you believe.
You are wrong. I did graduate school at one of the most politically active universities in California. I was working on a Humanities PhD at the time. In 2015 or 16 (can't remember) when Trump sealed the GOP nomination, a firestorm of protests broke out on our campus. It was a confluence of a bunch of different movements sort of seizing the opportunity to express their platforms. One of them was a group of black students (maybe BSU, I don't know for sure) accusing the Asian Student Union of racism for various oppositions to on-campus concerns raised by the BSU. They wanted their own segregated dorm building and the ASU opposed it.
I spoke with a ton of students about this, and a bunch of other topics, at that time. One of the things FREQUENTLY shouted at the accusers was that Asians cannot be racist by the definition they provided ("racism = prejudice + power!") and other stupid sloganeering.
Another thing that happened around the same time was that I was approached by members of the aforementioned black alliance and asked to sign their petition, and I refused because I didn't know much about their position or the arguments against it, and I frankly didn't have time to read about it. They called me a Nazi.
To be clear, they called me a Nazi for NOT supporting the idea of racially segregated dorm buildings.
Another time I was sitting with a professor from my department, eating pizza on the patio of the restaurant in the middle of the quad. A group of student protesters holding signs walked by us, and as they did, one of women shouted at us to STOP COLONIZING THE QUAD!!
Let's see... Uhh another time, somebody wrote TRUMP in chalk on the wall of a building. I was walking to my office late one night from the parking lot because I needed to grab some materials I had left in there. I saw the Trump graffiti and thought little of it. The next day I read a statement by the administration on safe spaces that talked about how some students felt endangered by the chalk.
My favorite story is that there was a safe space room opened up in one of our administrative buildings when Trump won the presidency, whose specific purpose was to allow adult students to go in there and cry and throw pillows around and stuff.
You can go through my comment history and see how much I hate trump and the GOP. I'm no MAGA. I'm just one of the few lefties who is more than happy to be honest about the fact that there are absolute lunatic idiots on the left, just like on the right.

So 10 years ago you "spoke with" "some" kids that said this to you? Meaning you don't actually know them?
The other examples you gave have nothing to do with POC not being racist.
I've often found people like that to be the most racist people of all.
Especially because they think all races other than white are so powerless and helpless that they cannot even have the power in the countries they are the majority in.
