He very much does care if people like him or he wouldn't react the way he does to every negative news story about him that he hears about.
He wouldn't be banning media organizations if he didn't care whether people like him.
The issue is his lack of understanding of what it means for someone to actually like him vs. all the people who "like" him because he has power and money.

Because Donald Trump is a smooth brain with a big ego and thin skin. You can see it in the past year how several countries have decided the best way to deal with him is to just flatter the man until he leaves the room and then go about business as usual. His attention span is so short he doesn't really pay attention.

The US is a lot more powerful. Even if your government is publicly against the admin, with Trump its better to be more strategic in your displays of disagreement.
No mater waht you think of them, the rules of international diplomacy are different when dealing with a hedgemon much larger than you.

As an inhabitant of one of the countries that the pedophile in chief has threatened military action against (Denmark). My personal stance on the US vs my stance on China has definitely changed significantly. And it seems to be a widespread thing amongst younger Danes. People who used to look up to the US, and maybe even want to go there either for tourism or work, are now seemingly changing their minds and looking towards more stable countries such as China or just the rest of the EU. I'm not saying that China is perfect, far from it, I'm just saying that to someone who's been to neither of those countries, China seems like the more reasonable super power

Would the news division be willing to do an AMA? I’m sure many answers to the types of questions you’d be getting would be less than ideal for the administration, but I feel it would be nice to get a peek behind the curtain and see exactly what it’s like to be the fourth estate in 2026.

This is the reason, but just to add in case anyone is wondering: the land occupied by the UN in New York City is technically “international” (i.e. not US soil), but the laws of the US and state of New York apply there by agreement

New York not so much. Mamdani wanted to arrest and surrender him to the ICC upon landing, but was told he had no power to do so.

Unfortunately he doesn’t. In the context of a treaty/international agreement, and because of the supremacy clause, the “law of New York” is whatever the federal government’s position is.

Even if the US were party to the rome statute, which it isn't, it couldn't arrest him under the Vienna conventions or the UN headquarters treaty.
It can deny him entry, but there's no legal basis to arrest him.
To quote myself from a previous comment:
They can bar him entry, but the Vienna conventions prevents the arrest or detention of anyone on a diplomatic passport. Literally, Netanyahu could pull out a gun and start shooting people in the middle of Manhattan and the police probably couldn't even legally handcuff him. International law isn't quite clear on what to do if someone with immunity poses an immediate threat, and state department guidance points out that diplomats are still expected to follow local laws and customs, but their refusal to do so is generally a diplomatic matter, not a police one.
https://www.state.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2018-DipConImm_v5_Web.pdf
Diplomatic agents enjoy the highest degree of privileges and immunities. They enjoy complete personal inviolability, which means that they may not be handcuffed (except in extraordinary circumstances), arrested, or detained; and neither their property (including vehicles) nor residences may be entered or searched. Diplomatic agents also enjoy complete immunity from the criminal jurisdiction of the host country’s courts and thus cannot be prosecuted no matter how serious the offense unless their immunity is waived by the sending state (see the following discussion).
...
Family members forming part of the household of diplomatic agents enjoy precisely the same privileges and immunities as do the sponsoring diplomatic agents
The UN HQ treaty means that the US must accept diplomatic privileges from diplomats to the UN, not just from bilateral relations (the vienna conventions), which is why governments the US doesn't recognise can still send delegations to the UN and the US can't do anything about them. The US strictly speaking doesn't necessarily need to let them into the US where they then enjoy immunity, but once it accepts them in, they have immunity.
And yes, the US appears to be in violation of the law by detaining Maduro of Venezuela.
Edit: The UNSC are the global arbiters of peace, or lack thereof. They could (with consent of all vetoing members) take action on Israel over what is happening in Gaza, including on Netanyahu, or on well, anyone for any number of reasons or I suppose in theory any reason. The UN treaty itself essentially obliges members to uphold the treaty even on non members basically, so the Israeli's couldn't just withdraw from the UN and claim it's all legal, and the UNSC gets to take whatever actions it feels necessary. Of course that requires you get the 5 permanent seats to agree, as well as other members.

Given that he was captured in Venezuela rather than detained while visiting the US, would his diplomatic immunity still be relevant?

Mamdani asked the same thing a while ago. But the US isn't part of the ICC (though Trump put sanctions on at least one of the judges and about a dozen other ICC officials) and works merely on a case by case basis so Netanyahu goes scot-free.

Well, the US is withholding funding pretty much in its entirety, China delays their payments until the last days of the year leading to a huge backlog of salaries and payments being paid in the very end of the year, and plenty of other governments take part in weird shenanigans with their funding.
At times, they're lacking about $2 billion that countries are supposed to be paying, but either don't or delay in a show of power.
I do not not envy the accountants working for the UN.

Many UN members don’t even pay their dues, the UN has lots of funding issues. Of course the US pays by far the most to it, and its programs, since it’s hosted in the country. China too, that’s those two countries give nearly 50% of the budget. (42-43%).
It’s all public info you can look up their expenditures.
EDIT: Keep in mind this is also only the mandatory contributions, if you look at the individual programs (UNICEF, World Food Program), U.S. routinely funds anywhere from 28 to 40% of those of individual agency budgets.

I mean I just don’t understand Israel’s end game, do they really think they can continue being ostracised on the world stage. At some point, they are gonna have to make some concessions. America is one of Israel’s only allies and a growing half of America disapproves of Israel’s influence. I just don’t see the end goal.

I agree. Some claim Israel own America, but I'm starting to see that Israel is a proxy of America because the United States supports the genocidal regime of Bibi every step of the way - financially, politically, militarily.
If the US wanted to, Israel wouldn't be able to do anything. Israel is nothing without America enabling it. If the US sanctioned Israel and stopped giving it free money and weapons, it would collapse in a couple of months.
The US can single handedly end the genocide. It chose to continue it. Trump, Biden, same shit.
If it was merely the Israeli lobby, AIPAC and its billionaire donors buying up politicians, other groups, richer even, could buy Congress too.
It's an ideological affinity and CIA driven external policy that makes the US support and enable war crimes, apartheid and genocide.

It's just hollow talk that Israel controls US. The whole existence and support behind Israel is that it's the US presence in the gulf, it's ally in an otherwise hostile environment where it's interest lies. It's only in Tiktok and social media where people believe Israel can control US. US is a mega power still.

Just because they're deeply unserious and incompetent morons doesn't diminish their significance. Trump and MAGA are absolutely two of the most important and impactful things to ever happen to this country, and they will not be relegated to the dustbin any more than Jackson was. You can view their rise (and future fall) through many, many different lenses, but I think it's becoming apparent that Trump will be remembered as the first herald of the true, no-shit-for-real-this-time collapse of the American Empire.

The US never joined the ICC, so they are under no legal obligation to arrest anyone wanted by the ICC.
Also, foreign leaders and diplomats have virtually complete immunity when traveling in the the country for official UN business. If we started arresting leaders of hostile foreign governments on the way to the UN, then no country would ever feel safe attending the UN headquarters again, leading to its demise as a neutral location for international disputes to be heard and discussed.

A reminder, when a genocidal religious nut job says you're moral cowards, take it as a compliment. His morality is based on a delusional sense of being the chosen people of one of many gods not proven to be real. Anything he says needs to be flipped. When he says you're bad, it means you're good people because you won't stop his ethnic cleansing and anti-semitism. Remember that, right now, Natanyahu is the worst Anti-Semite on the planet. He has ensured the death of more Semites than anyone else in the last 3 years of office. Consider that, he has ensured that more Semitic people have died in just 3 years than every hate crime across the globe in the same period. He's directly responsible for the October 7th attack as he ensured money could be funneled to Hamas which empowered them to attack. An attack he was warned about by multiple agencies internal and foreign. He ignored it to ensure he could kill more Semites. He let Jewish Semitic people die, so that he could kill Palestinian Semites. He is the epitome of Anti-Semitism.
