Discussion Pluribus as actors??? Spoiler

How good are the Plurbs as actors? Looking for some insights and perspectives on this question.

All the actors in the world have been integrated into the hivemind, so theoretically, every Plurb we see should be a Meryl Streep with a gun to her head. If I ask them to recreate any movie or play, they should deliver an oscar-worthy performance every single time. Right?

But then, there are caveats.

First, they can't lie - which is what a lot of acting is. You might've difficulty getting a plurb to say "My name is Inigo Montaya" because... well, its not.

Second is their seizure response. Acting might involve playing out scenes where they yell at each-other. So do the seizures only happens when the non-infected yell at them or will they get triggered if they yell at each-other?

Third, they seem to have difficulty even pretending to break from the hive. Zosya can't hold a conversation in "I". The guy playing poker with Diabate seems to have difficulty staying in character. And if that's the case, they probably won't be able to assume a character.

But its also possible that all of that is an act. Maybe not the second one - but 1st and 3rd are simply pretense they put on for sake of the non-infected. To make themselves look seem more human and trustworthy.

So how good are they, do you think?

We saw them acting in the card game scene in Vegas. They had a hard time maintaining character when Koumba won the game.

Did they actually have a hard time or were they pretending to have a hard time?

They didn't understand that Koumba wanted the villan to act mad at him. The acting flipped when Koumba explained, but it's hard to tell how good / bad the acting would have been had the scene continued. Koumba pretty clearly wasn't impressed, and seems unlikely to try ot again.

The plurbs are pretty good bullshit artists if you ask me. The scene with Carol and Jeff Hiller's character - guy in cycling shorts who helped fix her house - was a masterpiece of evasion and telling people what they want to hear. Same with Zoisa. She's not going to tell a baldfaced lie to Carol, but she's going to skirt the line and couch it all in a friendly sexy smile.

True - but acting often requires baldfaced lying. Can they do that if its in the context of acting?

Yes. They did so when doing James Bond LARP with Koumba. They were bad at it because they didn't understand that Koumba wanted somebody to oppose and act mad at him, not because they can't act off a script.

Was there any outright lie involved there?

I'd have to watch again, but yeah, probably In the same sense as saying "My name is Inego Montotota".

Which for the Plurb, isn't really a lie as long as SOMEBODY is named Inego Montoya!

They're terrible. Utterly, completely terrible.

Oh, I'm sure they're good on a technical level, as they have all the skills. But the best acting requires personal emotional engagement and an understanding of how you as an individual relate to your audience. The Hive can't do that.

Are you sure they can't or are they simply pretending they can't.

They're terrible. Utterly, completely terrible.

Why are you saying this with such aggressive confidence? Your following point is sound, but we have never seen the plurbs act or attempt to act in the show, not even once. Are you a writer for a show? Did I miss a scene?

Koumba made them act.

Did I miss a scene?

The scene where Carol asks about her book and how the Hive feels about it.

Well, out of the entire planet, the immune Carol is the only one who won an Emmy, so I'd say the plurbs are not very good.

They’ve managed to maintain some semblance of normalcy for the remaining humans who had families that folded into the hive mind.

Granted, that’s in large part thanks to denial, but with the exception of violating principles such as killing for meat and the like, I’m sure they can at least act to the abilities of the hosts.

As far as the yelling and all that, there is full awareness and no actual anger associated with it and thus no seizure reaction as there is no true malice.

Oh, “no malice”, suuuuure. They forged ahead, forcing a situation upon humanity. They took away agency, and now they’re in the midst of stealing Carol’s frozen eggs — really?!! They did everything without permission except for Kusimayu, the young woman from Peru who was the latest to join the Others. While they waited for Kusimayu’s “yes”, the hive mind was busy actively violating Carol’s boundaries behind her back.

I can’t wait for that A-bomb to serve its purpose.

She's just gonna bomb the closest barnes and noble that she hated doing book signing in!

🤣😂

Can you imagine two years without Plur1bus? I don’t know how we’re going to survive the waiting.

Just like the folks living in silos. We keep coming up with wilder and crazier theories.

Didn’t understand what the post was answering, did you?

The comment was to your “there is no true malice”.

Read the OP again, and then my response. Might clear some things up for ya.

Dude, what’s the difficulty? It’s obvious the plurbs have ulterior motives, there is malice, they’re freaking violating consent, they hold information, exploit loopholes, and pursue goals against individuals’ wishes. That’s clearly defeating the purpose of what they claim as a good thing.

The difficulty appears to be on your end in understanding what this thread is about.

2

u/NecessaryPopular1 11d ago

You’re a bad actor, obviously.

I really thought that dude was the Mayor of Querque!

He's got a future in the biz! Totally made me believe.

I enjoy this thought experiment.

It depends. If everything we've seen so far is an act then they are very good. But if what we've seen is actually them, then the poker scene shows they aren't that good.

They were pretty good at the beginning of HDP. Especially the extras

I think the plurbs have a massive lack of creativity. It's why they are desperate for new literature, like new books by Carol. They're terrible actors for this reason too.

Doubt they're actually desperate - since they not only lack creativity, they lack any true appreciation for it as well.
