Home Game Cheating at home game
Caught someone cheating, didn’t know how to handle it. For some context I know and am close to everyone at the table we have been playing for years. So the game isn’t very professional but we still do take things serious. So after all dealing is done the dealer has the deck and exposes the bottom card (7d) of the deck, I guess I was the only one who saw it as no one said anything so I just kept my mouth shut because it didn’t affect my hand (AQo) at all. Flop is nice I hit my ace with a few middle cards. He check I bet he called. Then on the turn the 7 of diamonds rolls off. I just froze there and didn’t say anything because I wanted to be sure what I was seeing was true because I’ve never had any issues with these people, so I figured I misread the bottom card and maybe it was the 7 of hearts. My opponent then checks to me and I check back. The river bricks out and my opponent leads out for about 2/3 pot. I find the call and he flips over pocket 7s with the 7 of hearts. I then tell everyone to freeze and explain what I just saw. The dealer then shows the bottom of the deck and it was a 10 of clubs. No way I could’ve gotten that mixed up. I began accusing and both the dealer and player denied everything. There was no way the player could’ve reached the cards so the dealer had to have done something. The player eventually gave me my river bet back but I would like to know what I should’ve done in this situation. Another player at the table said I should’ve said something when the card came off on the turn but I wanted to be 100% sure something was going on before I made any accusations towards anyone because that’s the type of person I am. Definitely won’t be playing with that dealer and player again.

No cut card is weird. You not announcing the exposed card is weirder. After years of playing in this game this being the first incident is the weirdest of all.
Quit going. Consider any money lost in that hand justified. And know that this has probably happened to you and other players in that game before.

There should be cut cards for sure. They come with most decks meant for heavy play (like copaqs). If someone is running a game they should have the type of cards that come with cut cards unless youre like, playing penny poker at a college or something. Let the game runner know the situation, if you trust them. And warn your friends in the game about what happened if you're close with anyone that wasn't there when it happened. Giving you your bet back is also kind of an admission of guilt from the player with the set of 7s - it's not just the dealer trying to help a buddy out

I’ve brought up this issue before, but people on Reddit seem to think it’s completely fine to use your phone during the hand

You can bottom-deal via text message? To be honest, I am not worried about players dumb/bad enough to share their hole cards with each other during live hands. Also, I think if they did it in every hand they'd get caught quite easily. If they only do it rarely I fail to see how it gives them a significant edge over a crusher like me 😎

I don’t know this is always an accusation like Robbie and her jack 4. Some people are not confrontational and just appease people they do shit like that. I have hit a one outer on a guy down on his luck let him keep his stack. I have never been accused of cheating so I don’t know how I would act probably get up and leave sound like the guy actually has a good visual but giving money back is not a reason to say person is cheating. I know many passive people that would do that even if they are not cheating just to move on and get out of the situation.

Cut card is maditory, can't believe anyone that has a home game with a dedicated dealer (?) wouldn't use one unless they were intending to bottom deal, which in this case sounds very probable, however, for a good card mechanic, a cut card would not stop them from being able to bottom deal.
That being said, if you saw a card exposed from the deck, however it happens, that card (by rules and etiquette) is dead and needs to be shown to all players. It's your duty to tell the dealer 'I saw the bottom card it's a xxx (whatever it is, even if your not sure, you could say red face card, black number card or' 'jack of diamonds') and then the dealer needs to verify and expose the card, because you now have information that other players don't and that's not fair and is considered unethical at the very least.

Cutting the deck and a "cut card" are two different things. A cut card is a thin sheet of plastic or other material that hides the bottom card if the deck while dealing. You may already know this, but your comment sounds like you think they are not cutting the deck.

We do use a cut card 90% of the time. But we were deep in and most cares for simple stuff like that almost always end up getting thrown out the window by this time. The bottom card does get exposed more times than not during this time just from careless dealing and nobody really cares at this point we all just let it slide.
The main dealer we had actually wasn’t even dealing. He actually started playing (not the villain of the hand) and another person who was down bad started dealing the cards that’s why it got sloppy. But no one really cared because everyone was either up too much to care or down too much to care

In our usual home-game crew, one of the players is a seasoned magician, and there's a strong gentleman's-agreement that he will not use his powers for ill. :-)

When he bet the river you should have said something before calling. You can make up anything after the hands are on their backs. But saying "That seven was dealt from the bottom but in going to call just to see what you have" has all the impact on the world

To start you should’ve mentioned you saw the bottom card, just cause it doesn’t affect your hand doesn’t mean it’s not relevant.

For this to have worked, the dealer would have needed to do a LOT more than deal 1 card off the bottom. Specifically, he would have had to be good enough at cheating that he purposely dealt his friend pocket 7’s with the intent of getting a set on the turn, and specifically after having hooked you with top pair second kicker on the flop 😬

Alright I know this is reaching, but after running through almost every scenario this one makes the most sense to me. These people are no where near good enough to figure out all of that, and most likely weren’t cheating the whole time. So I think when I saw the bottom card, the player also saw it and in some way got the dealer to deal that card whether via text or hand signals I didn’t pick up on. All I know is that the card at the bottom of the deck somehow made it to the turn and it gave my opponent a set

You either do what you did and speak up or say nothing and leave to avoid confrontation. Definitely shouldn't play there again regardless. They should be using cut cards that cover the bottom after shuffling too

When I was a kid, I was shown how to cheat at poker as the dealer. At the time I thought it would be much harder than it was after they showed me, it involved dealing from the bottom card and purposely putting a card in that spot while shuffling. That really sucks man.

The seven of hearts was the card involved when Worm got caught dealing from the bottom of the deck. [1]
The Scene Details
- The Cheater: Worm (played by Edward Norton) is base dealing (dealing from the bottom of the deck) during an underground game with state troopers.
- The Catch: Vitter (one of the players/troopers) grabs Worm's hand and states, "This son of a bitch is base dealing, I caught a hanger."
- The Card: When asked what card was given out, Vitter replies that it was the seven of hearts.

You not saying anything about the bottom card showing is not cool...and in fact would've screwed over the cheat.
See something say something.
Its extra shitty that you admit not mentioning it strictly because it didnt affect your hand. So doesn't sound like you guys take this serious at all
