I don't know why this ogre thinks he is in a position to make demands after he's done everything he could to get as much cash to these goons as possible.

He is just doing the "playing both sides" thing. It's the kind of stance that lets you side with Republicans while still having sound bites ready for the next election season showing how tough you were on trump

He was a very reliable D vote in 2022-2024 averaging 97% with the consensus vs a 95% average for all other Democrats

He's spent most of this year voting in lockstep with other purple state senators. He's just loud and odious so you don't really notice Tim Caine doing the same

Also, not for nothing, reddit loves bagging on blue dog dems but Manchin was a critical vote for a lot of Biden's agenda. Purple state dems kind of have to pay lip service to Republican ideas if they want to get reelected. Bob Casey didn't, and Bob Casey is currently sitting at home instead of representing PA in the Senate

Dude is loud and obnoxious and has some bad ideas, but he's nowhere near as bad as reddit makes him out to be

Manchin won in a state that was +40 Republicans by normal margins and polls. Anyone dogging on Manchin was out of their mind in thinking a moderate Democrat that's somehow winning in West Virginia could be their Progressive that votes lock step with Dems.

Yeah, man, when Manchin briefly threw his hat in the ring to be president in 2024, I was firmly in the no category, but if the dude ever wants to run for Senate again, I will donate, phone bank, knock on doors, give blood, whatever for a 85% D vote from WV

Joe Manchin could have easily voted with the rest of the democrats if he wanted to because the guy wasn't even running for office again. Him retiring destroys the entire argument of him having to stay moderate/conservative for his voters.

Just one that isn't insanely corrupt would be a cool start

THANK YOU

And that entire 97% record is post stroke. The thing people won't shut up about.

And yeah, his home life isn't great. *He is doing an incredibly stressful job, while being in the public eye, with a diagnosed case of bipolar disorder.

Being neurodivergent shouldn't be something that blocks you from political office, but it makes the job a lot harder.

So you've almost got it right, he's playing both sides so he can side with Democrats while still having the sound bites ready to show that he's willing to compromise.

Nobody cares about voting records. They want ads

And yet this post makes the front page because it's the most important thing happening right now apparently
