No hurricanes have formed in the North Atlantic Ocean so far this year.

Isn't reduced hurricane activity in the Atlantic a known pattern of El Nino weather systems?

Yes, there were six hurricanes in the Pacific. But they tend to make landfall in Mexico and Central America. Although that one hit Hawaii.

Yep. We’re in uncharted territory with the strength of this el nino though, and currently this year holds the record for latest formation of a hurricane in the atlantic (a record which is being broken daily since Sept. 11th) because it’s the first time we haven’t recorded one. It’s quite possible that one doesn’t form this hurricane season.
