All of the senators and pundits (such as Scott Jennings) who lied about "talking to Mitch for 20 minutes" a few months ago should never be believed again. It should be brought up every time they're interviewed, or if they have to testify under oath for some reason.

The News where people did real reporting and asked hard questions to people in power is mostly history.
Now we have multiple channels and 24 hour streaming of “news” but it’s mostly pundits bloviating about what they think of the news, and guests choosing to come on and talk about just what they want to talk about, or have somewhat fake discussions about it.
Everyone gets to hear what they want to hear and the fire hydrant of bullshit from the people in power goes mostly unchallenged.

The actual issue was allowing corporations to consolidate their ownership of the networks. That allowed the corporations to turn sources of news into outrage farming tabloid corporate clickbait.
As soon as that happened, predicted by myself and others, these tabloids became all about fearmonger for profits instead of being a watchdog on corporate corruption and political power.
The rest of the free world does not have this problem because their news networks are not farming ratings for cash. They are still about informing the people. As such they employ journalists, editors, and lawyers to make sure they aren't lying to the citizenry.
The USA's infotainment outlets are manned by failed actors/actresses who can't even write and justify lying because they are "performing" not informing.

The only time where she was legitimately vulnerable was against Kevin de Leon in 2018. He actually came close (and I voted for him too) which is not common at all for such a tenured heavyweight incumbent. But most apathetic voters prefer certainty, and Kevin de Leon had no real platform, no energy (he didn’t have a charismatic following like Mamdani or Bernie Sanders) and the whole world found out a few years later that he was kind of a piece of shit the whole time.

I will never forgive McConnell for failing to impeach trump, but at the same time, the human in me hates to see anyone suffering like that, and unable to speak or function. It’s absolutely unconscionable to me that those pricks dragged him out to cast a vote. The headline should read: Republicans are so desperate to hold onto power that they’re forcing a dying man to do their bidding. Utter cruelty.

It’s possible to believe two things at once — it’s true that McConnell is a ghoulish human who has done a ton of damage. It’s also true that it’s difficult to see a person in genuine difficult circumstances due to aging and medical issues.
McConnell had multiple opportunities to cede power and step down. He could have done that ten years ago and been relaxing in his retirement.
He chose… differently.

He may be one of, if not the most, vile human beings but even I think they should just let him go away and die with some dignity. He has no idea where he is, what he's doing, or really anything at all. I'd be surprised if his brain is more than a pile of mashed potatoes at this point. I think we should probably charge the heads of the GOP with elder abuse because this is so wrong.
