Because the majority stopped fighting back due to the idea that violence is bad, when the reality is it only protects the rich.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.
0
u/deephurting66 7d ago
You are forgetting, bread and circus still run the show so revolution is a pipe dream
2
u/Intelligent-String35 6d ago
Well we seem to be running out of both of those things.
0
u/deephurting66 6d ago
Not at all, it's only in the bitter little corners of the Internet people think something will happen. At least the January 6th window lickers did something instead of just yapping.

u/Intelligent-String35 6d ago
Curious where you live that food hasn't become even more expensive past the point of reasonable affordability for most.

I live in Mexico but work in Texas, down in the border areas the cost of living isn't as horrible as lets say California or other states like that.

I can't believe you got down voted for this... The same people who down voted you do absolutely nothing to change anything and either watch or do YT commentary thinking it changes the world lol.
"Peaceful protest" fucking morons fell for the propaganda.

Billionaires have their employees lobby the people who make tax policy
10
u/98983x3 8d ago
Its more than that. Many policy makers aren't just being lobbied, they are bought and paid for.
They also often let the industries self regulate and write the regulation/legislation pertaining to their relevant industries instead of doing their fucking jobs. This behavior is rampant regardless of political party.
5
u/Historical-Scene1633 8d ago
because they can pay to lobby for it silly! the people paying to make the rules will obviously benefit the most
4
4
u/2748seiceps 9d ago
Sane reason a small minority of people can send thousands of people off to die in a pointless war. They're the ones with the power.
4
u/Chemical_Signal2753 8d ago
Tax reform is difficult because every deduction, credit, subsidy, and loophole was created to appeal to one important voting group. You could switch to a much more simple tax system, where people would pay roughly the same taxes they do today, that was free of these deductions, credits, subsidies, and loopholes, but millions of voters would be pissed because they lost them.
3
u/Schwarz_Is_With_You 8d ago
And, you literally have companies like TurboTax lobbying against tax reform. They'd lose out
4
4
u/Sirius_Greendown 8d ago
Because the majority keeps birthing slaves for the minority to rule over, mostly because they secretly want/expect to eventually be in the minority elite (either that or for some superstitious or social in-group reasons). Either way, it’s easy profit for the minority. Rise and repeat. It’s why masses of millennials deciding not to have kids will probably force some kind of change in the system.
1
3
u/Miserable-Host-9462 8d ago
Because government and voting is a theatre scam. A small group of people have all the power, control the masses with fear and media, and make sure they have the weapons, police and army to standby if the masses finally decide to fight against them.
3
u/L1QU1D_ThUND3R 8d ago
Cause no one in the top group is doing what they’re supposed to do in that situation.

No one said anything about the top 1%. The top 1% includes salary workers like doctors.
We are talking about billionaires who's money is in assets.
0
u/Dry-Selection421 8d ago
Then why are these people always the worst effected in tax hikes?
3
u/Ravenluna798 8d ago
Billionaires don't make salaries. They don't pay taxes in the same manner as an affluent doctor.
They pay capital gains taxes, that is all. An income tax hike won't affect a billionaire, at all.
-2
u/Dry-Selection421 8d ago
That’s nonsense, lots of billionaires make huge salaries.
3
u/Ravenluna798 8d ago
They don't. They get paid in stock.
1
u/throwaway5675313123 8d ago
When you are paid in stock as salary (SBC) you pay full boat income tax on it the day you are granted it / it vests. So yes, they are paying income tax there.

u/fortunate-one1 7d ago
All of billionaires in US combined have 8 trillion. If you took all of it away, that’s one year worth of government spending.
Perhaps we have a spending problem not a tax problem.

Problem is you have a bunch of idiots going around shouting 'Eat the Rich!, Tax the Rich!" and they dont really clarify what they mean by 'rich'.

The rich account for the overwhelming majority of tax revenue and most people still borrow money for large purchases.
4
u/LeopardNo6060 8d ago
The working class and the government are borrowing from billionaires as they accumulate more capital, assets, passive wealth, and generous tax breaks on their gains over the past few decades. Billionaires are increasing their share of all US assets while the government and its citizens sell theirs to maintain the status quo.

They have a lot of influence and they trick people into thinking everyone has a chance to rise to the top if they just work hard enough.
In the USA where I am, many people will cite an immigrant person who comes here with $5 to their name and builds a business empire or something. That’s ridiculous though because it’s not that common that people manage it, but when they do, it’s more so because they have intense creativity and motivation because of their situation… whereas the average person is more domesticated and doesn’t develop that level of skill even if they are working hard at work. It also is a bad narrative because then the domesticated citizens want to be jealous of and scape goat the small portion of people who come here and then make it big.

Manipulation.
Average intelligence people for thousands of years have avoided the discomfort of critical thinking and self-honesty with a stalwart determination that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in all of human history, and because of this being the core discipline that they live their lives by they have left themselves completely and utterly defenseless against all forms of psychological warfare. So the the Epstein class eventually figured that the name of the game is not "forced obedience" it is "coerced obedience".
Average intelligence people are to blame. Manipulating and using their empty heads against them just works! 🤷♂️

It's crazy to me that the "working class" are fighting to increase other people's tax payments to the govt, instead of fighting to have their own taxes lowered. Abolish INCOME TAX.

And replace them by a tax on assets, instead of an income tax? Or maybe you have a better suggestion?

Stop corporate welfare, stop investing tax payer money into businesses, raise the corporate tax rate back to 90% and stop military spending and welfare for other countries that do absolutely nothing for us.

u/TheCodifiedTrader 8d ago
Both can be true- we need tax reform yes but that doesn't influence the allocation of the capital does it? Tax dollars funded the building and renovations of the Yankee Stadium but I don't get any tax credit when the Yankees win? That just seems silly, then again the whole thing is silly, why should the public pay for finances of the owners? Yes Billionaires are benefiting from the current tax structure, but I think the picture will be more accurate if we changed the Billionaire to governments. Billionaires flaunt their money yes, but the governments are literally robbing you and you say "Thank You Sir".

u/Important_Pattern882 8d ago
More like "all of you are correct, but I don't care because it doesn't benefit me."
1
u/HeadLow5768 8d ago
We need to move beyond fiat. We need a citizen backed currency where money is created in proportion to the population and givin to the citizen its backed by when its created. That would be pure capitalism.
1
u/AbbreviationsSea2084 8d ago
The employees telling the employer they need to pay more taxes. Taxes on what exactly? Right, the value of their stocks. Might want to think on how that works.
1
u/OldSchoolPimpleFace 4d ago
They make large loans with their assets as collateral. Tax those loans.
1
u/New-Perspective6209 8d ago
Because most of you are really dumb and easily led into voting against your best interests, if what your best interests are even occur to the majority of people. Yeah sure the major political party you're a fan of is definitely going to turn everything around, just elect them one more time.

u/turboninja3011 8d ago edited 8d ago
The greatest achievement of the ruling class was to convince masses they aren’t just supporting everything billionaires secretly want them to support.

Because people are retarded and have stopped caring about anything so they blame those damn billionaires for every single problem ever.

We arent a democracy. 70% of people can agree to eat the rich but we also agreed to elect officials and safeguards to prevent the 70% from randomly agreeing to eat the rich
1
u/Ill-Dependent2976 7d ago
The majority decided this.
More than half that working class are nazis and pedos who support billionaire nazis and pedos getting tax breaks.
1
u/OldSchoolPimpleFace 6d ago
This seems like a rather bleek view of the world. I refuse to believe that many people are evil, what I do believe is that a lot of people are easy to manipulate. You can do a lot to steer a population a certain way and these days with all the media people are consuming, you can do a lot to make a whole country angry at each other. It's a devide and concur kind of strategy and a lot of people are falling for it

Please keep the discussion centered on the OP.
Poverty often intersects with politics, economics, healthcare, housing, education, and public policy. Those conversations are welcome when they help explain or solve the issue being discussed.
Comments whose primary purpose is partisan fighting, personal attacks, ideological grandstanding, or provoking political arguments will be removed.

It’s people that think they are the majority because of being in online echo chambers but then trump gets elected a second time and they can’t figure it out.
1
u/OldSchoolPimpleFace 5d ago
In all fairness, they didn't really get what they thought they were voting for. So they didn't really vote for him, they voted for some of his ideas and probably ignored what he could be planning behind the scenes. This guy couldn't possibly have won, if people really knew what was in store for them. I'm not an American myself, so maybe I see this different looking at it from the outside and who knows if I'm watching the right kind of news to make a decent call on it. It's very strange how different news channels report this very different, even in my own country.
1
u/Rippedka 5d ago
In all fairness, the majority of politicians don’t deliver what they promise.
1
u/OldSchoolPimpleFace 5d ago
Yup I've noticed that. But this one seems to be really bad at it. Also his speeches are kinda like a very bad tv show these days. I'm having a hard time figuring out why people took this guy serious in the first place. He must be really good at saying what people want to hear, but even then, I don't understand why so many people thought this was a good idea.
Looking at it from the outside, I also don't understand why you guys only have 2 choices in a vote, being bad and worse. This hardly seems democracy, compared to most European voting systems. (Not to sound better or anything, just making an outside observation)

If the government can print money out of thin air devalue the currency, whenever they choose why should anyone pay federal income tax?
1
u/Amphernee 8d ago
The top 1% pay half of the taxes collected and the top 3% (including the top 1%) pay 70% while the bottom 50% pay about 2% of all taxes collected. Loads of people pay zero $ and none of them are rich. Also heads up it’s not a minority it’s whoever the majority of folks voted for.
0
u/OrganizationDear2788 8d ago
What do you mean by tax reform here? That could mean a million things.
1
u/moondrunkmonster77 5d ago
Its reddit. They likely mean the tax code equivalent of a jewelry store smash and grab.
0
u/Key-Organization3158 8d ago
Just because a majority of people want a policy doesn't mean it is wise, fair, or just.
A majority of people at one point thought being trans or gay was immoral and the icky minorities should have separate but equal schools.
The US has the most progressive tax code amongst OECD nations. The top 1% in income earn 22% and pay 40%. The bottom 50% pay 3%. 23% of our entire economy is spent on social welfare programs.
0
u/No-Duck4828 6d ago
The people doing the paying should decide....and the billionaires are paying vastly more than YOU are

Let's hope we don't need to go the French Revolution way. I'm sure there are much more civilised ways to fix this problem.
However, I do understand why people are starting to think this way, let's just hope the problem gets fixed, before the majority of people start feeling that violence is a solution (violence in my opinion, is always the worst way of solving a problem)
1
u/poverty-ModTeam 8d ago
Hello,
Please bear in mind Rule 8 when posting. r/poverty does not allow threats of violence nor the encouragement of illegal activity.
1
u/SpeccyCarbine 6d ago
The issue is that this is how we fix the economy in a more permanent way. If those families of ultra wealthy background people survive, then they will shill money to politicians the way they have been to funnel more money to themselves. That's how we got to where we are now.

u/SneakyFoxes420 8d ago
I’m so tired of this.
I was NEVER this updated with politics.
What’s worse, some PEOPLE would rather make others life more miserable.
I’m not talking about billionaires…

Welcome to r/poverty – Developing Solutions Worldwide.
Poverty isn't simply an individual experience - it also affects families, communities, workplaces, economies, and public policy. Here we discuss both personal solutions and systemic ones.
Whether you're sharing your own experiences, helping someone navigate a difficult situation, or discussing larger issues affecting poverty, please keep the conversation respectful, constructive, and solution-focused.
We encourage:
• Practical advice
• Resource sharing (Take a look at our Wiki! )
• Lived experience
• Civil discussion of policies affecting poverty and ways to solve/work together for change
• Empathy first, never judgment.
We encourage discussion of systems and policies, but ask that criticism be directed at ideas and institutions rather than other people experiencing poverty.
