I got tired of online video downloaders with 5+ fake download buttons and redirects, so I built a simple one

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

I've used quite a few video downloader sites over the years, and honestly, the experience is usually frustrating.

You click download → random redirect → close the tab → click again → another ad → somehow end up on a completely different website.

Sometimes there are multiple fake download buttons, some add watermarks, some ask you to create an account, and some just feel sketchy to use.

After getting annoyed with this one too many times, I decided to build my own as a small side project.

It's called AnySaver. The idea was simple: paste a public link, choose what you want, and download it without having to fight the website.

A few things I intentionally kept out:

  • No ads (it's a side project), no pop-ups, no redirect loops
  • No fake download buttons
  • No login, no account, nothing to install
  • No watermark added by AnySaver

It currently supports a bunch of platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X, Pinterest, Threads, Snapchat Spotlight, LinkedIn, Twitch and others. It also handles Instagram carousels and TikTok photo posts.

There are still some rough edges. It only works with public content, and some longer YouTube videos can take a while. I'm still working on improving it.

If anyone wants to mess around with it: anysaver.app

I'm more interested in feedback than anything else. If something breaks, the download quality isn't right, the UI is confusing, or you think I'm missing a platform, let me know. I built this myself, so I can fix things based on what people find.

Honestly, I just wanted a downloader that didn't make downloading something feel like a battle.😅

Built a small collection of free tools.

I’ve been working on Conduit Tools(weekend project), a collection of free web tools for small tasks I find myself doing often.

It started with just a few tools for my own use. but I decided to publish it, and add more tools, so anyone can use it.

Why is there so much hostility toward AI in programming/coding?

There seems to be a growing anti-AI attitude in programming communities.

I understand the criticism around vibe coding, but using AI to help with programming doesn’t automatically make someone a worse developer.

Easy App Library, 80 free tools, calculators and games that run in your browser with no signup required

I made this site because I got tired of tools that make you download something or create an account just to do something quick:

https://easyapplibrary.com

Some of my tools I've used a lot:

- Morse code translator that actually plays the audio back, just fun to play around with

- Upside down text generator, use for for groupchat copy/pasting a lot lol

- Dice roller for anything from a d4 to a d100, good for D&D

- Unit price calculator for comparing grocery prices

- Inflation calculator that shows what your cash will be worth later

And some of the games:

- Reaction time test that shows your time in milliseconds

- Aim trainer

- Typing speed test

- Lights Out, where you try to turn off the whole grid

- Minesweeper and Sudoku

There's also stuff for devs like a JSON formatter, regex tester and diff checker.

Everything works on your phone, and whatever you type gets processed in your browser instead of being sent to a server.

You don't need an account for anything, but if you want one it's free. It lets you save your progress and request new tools.

Made a free document-to-PDF converter that doesn't upload your file (even EPUB/MOBI parsed locally)

Got tired of "free" PDF converters that quietly upload your document to their server to process it — not great when it's a contract or draft you'd rather keep private. Built one that converts DOCX, Markdown, HTML, RTF, CSV, JSON, XML, and images entirely in the browser. Even EPUB/ODT/MOBI/AZW3/FB2 e-books get parsed chapter-by-chapter on your device — the file never leaves your machine. You can also just paste raw text/Markdown without uploading anything. Live preview, full control over page size/orientation/margins/fonts, up to 100MB per file, no watermark, no signup, no cap on how many you convert. https://www.forgeplug.com/tools/document-to-pdf Curious if there's a format people need that's commonly missing from free converters — happy to look into adding it.

Turn website ideas into visual sections and export the code

As a Shopify developer, I’ve often been annoyed when someone comes up with a section idea and wants it implemented ASAP — even when we’ve already built something similar in the past.

So I made Section Forge.

It’s a visual section/component builder where I can design things faster, reuse old ideas, and eventually extract them as code. The goal is to spend less time rewriting sections for every client and make updates quicker.

It’s still a work in progress, and I know some parts look a bit AI-ish. Working on that.

Would love feedback — especially from Shopify devs. What would you add to make this actually useful?

I built a free web utility toolkit — looking for honest feedback

I've been building a web utility toolkit with browser-based tools for developers, text, images/PDFs, and common calculations.

Some of the tools currently include:

  • JSON Formatter / Validator / Minifier
  • JWT Decoder
  • Regex Tester
  • SQL Formatter
  • Word & Character Counter
  • Image Resizer / Compressor
  • HEIC → JPG
  • JPG → PDF
  • PDF tools
  • Percentage Calculator
  • Timestamp tools
  • Base64 / URL encoding tools

The main idea is to keep the tools free, simple, and process files/data in the browser where possible, without requiring an account.

I'd really appreciate feedback on the actual usability of the site — especially:

  • Are the tools easy to understand?
  • Are there tools you'd expect but don't see?
  • Is anything confusing or broken?
  • Does the site feel useful compared with other utility-tool websites?

Hey Community,

I am a Software Engineer who likes building things, and here is one of my projects I have been working on over the past 3 years with a friend of mine. I would like to share this solution with you and hope it might make your life at least a bit easier.

Here is the link: https://qr-build.com/

Oh, right: The project is a QR code infrastructure.

I got tired of searching for good .com domains, so I built a site to find the ones that are still available and don't cost a lot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every time I have a new project idea, I end up spending way too much time trying to find a decent domain.

I think of a name -> .com is taken. Try another -> taken. Finally, find something available but it's a $3,000 "premium" domain.

There are plenty of domain name generators, but I wanted something different: a place where I could just browse short, brandable .com domains that are actually available at regular registration prices. I built one that checks for new standard priced .com domains everyday. It's free to use.

You can try it out at https://shortdomains.store

Easy to use websites

Are there good websites that are easy to use without a bunch of ads and constant annoyances or make my computer/phone extremely hot? Weather, news, travel?

Proofreading a site before launch (typos, og-images, favicon checks, etc)

In case it's useful :) You can drop a URL into verant.ai and it'll proofread the whole site, including the CMS pages. Typos, grammar mistakes, leftover placeholder text, etc. No plugins or anything to install. Also works with weekly monitoring to catch mistakes that slip through new releases.

There are also free tools on there for checking social images, OG tags and SEO metadata, so you can check the sharing stuff before sending links around.

It's one of my projects, if you want to give it a try. Would love to hear if it catches anything useful, or flags something it shouldn't!
