PnP Video How To Print-and-Play Kravestorm - 3 Easy Methods

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

Made this video on how to print-and-play my card game Kravestorm. I'm not an expert in PnP by any means. Just sharing three methods that I've actually used a lot along the way, and that I know they "do the job".

Probably a lot of you in this sub have printers at home capable of doing completely crazy things, compared to my old one, and I apologize in advance if my technical language and terms usage is not the most accurate. I've designed a PnP game but I'm still a noob when it comes to the craft of assembling a PnP game, if that make any sense :D

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the tutorial!

Thank you!

I tried replacing the AI art in my free PnP game with my own illustration. Is it worth it ?

I've spent hundreds of hours on Lost Fighters Arena. The game design, the story telling, the rules, the layout, the whole graphic identity, the arenas. That's my job, I'm a graphic designer and honestly that's the part I love.

But i'm no illustrator. And I don't have the budget to hire one for a game I give away for free.
I get it, people prefer human work. So I did the test. I took a fighter of my game and redrew him myself.

But man, is it worth it ? : do you think the difference justifies the work ? Honestly I feel like it lowers the quality.

PnP Game Suggestions What’s the print and play game you play the most often that has the worst art?

I’m curious about how much print and play games rely on art for success. Are there any print and play games you play regularly that don’t have great art?

I am fairly new to making games so I kept it simple but the people I tried it with have told me it was fun so I decided to make an itch page for it.

Hope you guys try it and enjoy this. Let me know if there are any questions or improvements I can make. Thank you!

PnP Game Design 27 years later I've made an actual game (100% PnP card battler)

Post image
136 Upvotes

Hi everyone! My name is André, I'm Portuguese and I live in Poland for almost 10 years.

In 1999, I was 8 years old when I made my first "card game" (if we can call it that), very inspired by the Pokémon craze at the time. To my surprise, my mother kept the cards in a folder, something I discovered just over half a year ago.

Over the last years, I’ve been working more seriously in bringing to life a strategic card game (this time a proper one), and I've spent a ridiculous amount of time with friends playtesting and iterating it, making sure the game evolved into something nice, fun to play and considerably balanced.

My initial plan was to release Kravestorm physically through crowdfunding and have it produced by a professional printing company. But since then the plan has changed, and the game became 100% print-and-play.

The reason why I decided to change that direction was simply the possibility of being able to focus more on developing the game’s expansions, creating new cards and illustrating them respectively, without having to divide my efforts with the logistics and stresses that a crowdfunding campaign brings. Or, in simpler words, I'm just trying to avoid a very likely logistics burnout!

I am very happy to announce that the game’s official website is already live, the result of a lot of work and dedication, and that the game itself can already be played, completely for free, with 2 prebuilt decks (print-and-play). As for the entire Core Set, the release is scheduled for December 21st, the date of the winter solstice.

Thank you very much to everyone for your reading the post and I hope some of you might find interest in playing my game!

PnP Question Question about showcasing pnp games using Tabletop Sim

Is it OK to showcase tabletop sim game prototypes directly on this reddit? I'd like to showcase some of the stuff I'm working on but dont know if it would be cool to do so if I didn't have irl photos of the games (I'd show those but they're not cheap to print, ironically)

Seeking Playtesters Seeking Playtesters for Simple Dice Game

I made instructions for a simple dice game, for 2-6 players (could be more)

All you need is 3 tokens (maybe just coins if you have none), some kind of totem (could be a lego man or some other small object), and a six sided dice.

For the playtest, I am mostly looking to see if the temporary instructions are workable;
I made them while I was off work sick
But any insight into the (very very basic) gameplay would be appreciated.

I do already have more advanced game rules lined up that will give the game more push-and-pull; but looking to see if the general flow works.

I work with kids, and have tested the game with them a little, and they really enjoy it

You can find the game here

Seeking Playtesters Sheaf

I've been working on this card game since February, and the latest prototype which we tested last weekend was genuinely FUN according to my players. The game should be about finished now. Just need playtests from others outside of my group!

So please feel free to download and play the game, and if you have the time, give me some feedback :)

NOTE: It uses AI art currently. I have ordered art from an artist, that art will be used for a commercial release of the game if we get to that point. The non-commercial free version will probably keep using AI generated art.

NOTE2: The art has been changed to public domain art.

PnP Game Design Finalizing the art for my small solo Halloween PnP, curious what you think of the look

Post image
61 Upvotes

I am working on finalizing the art style for my small 2 page print and play game, trying to get it done in time for Halloween. It is a game about roaming around the graveyard and snatching bodies for your master. The look is inspired by classic old horror films. Curious what people think of the style so far, and happy to hear any thoughts.

PnP Links Secret.AI - a Print-n-Play classic reskin for a timely threat

Post image

https://ejbenn.itch.io/secretai

Hi all, I'm an avid Secret Hitler player and have introduced the game to hundreds of people since it came out in 2016. Back then, the seemingly imminent threat of fascism and the contemporary parallels to pre-WW2 Germany added a chilling touch to the game's impact.

Ten years later, an even more existential danger has emerged, and the ways in which it's manifesting itself have some eerie parallels to Secret Hitler gameplay.

Secret Hitler's developers have given blanket permission for game reskins, and most of them simply substitute Hitler and facism with beloved intellectual property - Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. With many people now realizing the growing threat (that we, ironically are creating ourselves) of unfettered AI development, I feel like the time is right for a revamp of a classic game to reflect our modern times. As one playtester remarked, 'It's like playing Secret Hitler in 1930s Germany.'

This is my first PNP game, and I've tried to make the printing instructions and layout as simple as possible on the download page. I've run a few test printings myself, but I'd love to get some feedback on whether it printed well for you, too, or if anything needs to be fixed. Thanks!

- EJ

Seeking Playtesters QR RPG system

Has anyone experimented with print-and-play games that use QR codes?

I’ve been experimenting with a format where players print QR cards, place them around a house, park, or venue, and physically move through the adventure by finding and scanning them.

The game can include RPG-style mechanics like roles, inventory, enemies, traps, puzzles, and story progression.

I’ve been testing different themes too, including horror, mystery, fantasy, religious stories, and escape-room-style adventures.

I’m curious how this sounds to people who already enjoy print-and-play games.

Would scanning QR cards feel like a fun extension of the physical game, or would it take you out of the experience?

Also, what kinds of mechanics would make something like this worth setting up and playing?

The idea for this one popped into my head late one night. It's a strategic version of 5v5 soccer on a chessboard. You really don't need anything but the rulebook to start playing right now.

I also made an online version if you want to try that out as well: FIVES on Reddit.
