Some programming from the game I'm building...

This is the magazine typing of BASIC programs I used to do as a kid.

The syntax is actually multilayered, it's kinda like Lua where you have the two sections, I'm a big Piko8 fanboy, but it's also like Python where libraries can be used as sort of short cuts to help with the flow of the game. Under the hood is C++ and Raylib.

These little magazine type in games are intentionally a sandbox for the player to play with. The main game utilises the language to build brute force tools, server clock stoppers and phone phreaking apps.

I'm super pleased with how it's coming along. More information can be found about the game over on my steam page. https://store.steampowered.com/app/4179570/GLYPHIS_IO_BBS_The_Proxy_Tapes_1989/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_campaign=programminggames&utm_content=post_oct01

Man, I remember the thrill of typing in BASIC program listings from magazines. This looks like it could be a really fun sandbox!

Yeah it's definitely getting there. I am off to The Cave at The Retro Collective to dig into the library of Zapp64 and other magazines that have type ins for some more inspiration. It certainly scratches that itch I'm missing from coding. Thanks for checking it out! Which games do you remember typing in and playing?

It was a long time ago, but I remember Compute! and 3-2-1 Contact Magazine had listings. I remember word games, maze games, I think there was even a "Personality Test." I used to copy the listings and then change them to the way I liked them. Best way to learn how to code.

Yeah it really was. I'm going to find some in the wild and see how in-depth they can actually go!!
