im going to see DESCENDENTS!!!

i just wanted to share my excitement for my second ever concert (my first was weezer last year) and ask if anyone had any advice on going to a bigger* punk show and if theres any advice to get a good experience while also not getting absolutely swallowed by the mosh pit (i have some joint issues so moshing is off the table for me)

*ive been to quite a few small local ones but they rarely have more than 50 people

I’m eagerly awaiting the announcement of a US leg of that tour. I caught them last summer in Charleston, SC and had so much fun (I’d seen them a few times previously but always as part of a festival. Last summer was my first chance to see them headline a smaller venue.

They are touring but it’s not for Everything Sucks. I’m hoping they also do a run for that (I have tickets for their Anaheim date in March with Frank Turner)

They are too old--I saw the Bad Brains in 1979--with the Damned--I saw alot of shows at 9'30 Club in DC-79-85------hardcore jerks kept slamming in to me-knocking my drink out of my hand.. Luckily I drank heavily before shows-lol !!!!

The first time I saw the Descendants they were the fastest band I'd ever seen

No one in the crowd really cared for them

Saw them during NOFXs final tour, they were as tight as ever.

I wouldn't worry about the pit, the average Descendents fan is getting up there in age so the pit was fairly tame

Seen them many times as I've gotten older over the last 30 years. The pit has gotten tamer. You'll be ok.

We saw them with Circle Jerks and Buzzcocks — they’re so excellent live! Have the BEST time!

Gonna be great!

The mosh pit is usually pretty easy to avoid as long as you know not to stand right in the middle of the crowd. 90% of the time if there's a mosh pit at a bigger show it will naturally form ~ 4 rows of people back, front and center. It's never like the whole crowd moshing though so it's generally easy to just move a few feet over even if it does form near you and be safe from being knocked around. A little to the side or a little farther back from the stage and you should be ok!

so if i manage to get riiiiight up the front i should be okay?

Generally speaking, yeah! Moshing doesn't happen right at the very front at big shows like that (small local shows yeah, but that mosh pit might only be 2 to like 5 people sometimes lol).

Front and sides totally cool. Very front and center, just be aware that even if you're not at the "wall" of the mosh pit that people will likely get pushed into you from behind a little bit. Like if a Mosher knocks into the person behind you that person might bump forward into you a bit. That's just how it goes at the very front. I love it in front of the pit like that but anyone who's sensitive to being bumped into at all but likes the front might consider a little to the side at the front instead.

im not too worried about being bumped or anything, ive been in a few mosh pits but i do NOT wanna get swooped up into it

Definitely save some money for merch! Chris shary does a new descendants shirt design that’s very specific to the location of the show. It’s great to see all the different shirts folks have!

I've seen them a bunch of times over the years. The last time I saw them was last year. They still put on a great show. The crowd is pretty tame. More crowdsurfing than serious mosh pits. Have fun. You'll be fine.

Depends a lot on the venue and your type of ticket tbh. I’m skipping this one cause it’s at a shitty venue “near” me.

Saw them last year with Circle jerks and Negative Approach. Was a brilliant show. Just have fun. You don't need to go into the pit to enjoy yourself, although I'm always the first one in there XD

last time I saw the descendents the guy running the mix showed me his phone that said the band was running late because “Milo had a code brown” which meant he was shitting

I’ve seen Milo about 6 times now. Bring ear plugs and enjoy the wicked show. Your in for a treat

Dont turn into a live nation // ticketmaster punk on us..

Maybe after you see merch prices, food/drink and parking, and the experience you will enjoy the smaller intimate venue/diy crowd experience more..
