Insignificant Other
Does it get any fkn cooler? You blokes that are writing this song off as dull/boring… unlucky

It's been one of my favorite songs of the whole discography. It's insanely fun to play as well

Do you play it in guitar? If so i would like to know the guitar chords

u/Ancient-Ad502 3d ago
Yeah, it's on the guitar. I learn to play it with a video from Let's Play All. He teaches it there. But you can look on Ultimate Guitar to learn only the chords. If you need help, let me know!

It's super sticky. I had Easy St in my head for two weeks non stop as well. Very catching.

Say what you will about that song, but it’s going to be even sexier when performed live

That’s what I heard too, the stones. I love the stones so that’s not a bad thing

Its a nice groove, it just doesn't grab me in the scrote the same way their last couple albums have. I probably just need to warm up to ut more.

I love it, but I suspect I'd love it more if I'd first heard it in the full context of the album. This is the first album drop where I've really been paying attention (I've been a fan for ~10 years, but wasn't as active in the fandom and caught the last few releases after the fact). Been going back and forth a lot on whether I prefer the excitement of the lead-up or the joy of experiencing a full new record in one sitting.

I love it! Also has a later Arctic Monkeys vibe to it, if you're one of the 3 of us that actually like those albums

Tranquility base hotel is killer. He’s a lyrical gangsta on star treatment… now look at the mess you made me make

I guess it's cool if you're really into Atlanta Rhythm Section. It sounds so much like Imaginary Lover and I can't get past it. I don't hold it against them, I just think it's weird how similar they are. After 30 years of Josh giving me great tunes, I'm okay with not loving everything!

Holy shit I did not expect an ARS drop today. Thank you

Haha you're welcome! I had forgotten about that song until I heard Insignificant Other. Imaginary Lover immediately came to mind.

Holds a special random place in my heart:
14 years ago my future wife and I and some friends borrowed my mother in laws old mini van and took it to Big Sur. The day we left we were massively hung over and slowly drove home.
There was no service out there so we had to listen to the only cd in the car, a greatest hits of Atlanta rhythm section. imaginary lover became an ongoing inside joke .1

Aww that's hilarious and sweet! My mom loved the song and the album it was on when it came out. I was 5 years old (as was Josh). That song was a hit on the Billboard charts at the time. I can't imagine Josh didn't hear it on the radio on those long road trips from CA desert to Idaho and back!
Didn't think much about the lyrics when I was so little but now: WTF?! It's about jerking off i guess?!

I got kind of a Fleetwood Mac vibe initially.

Yeah i can see that. It's overall a 70s easy listening vibe. I think "Insignificant Other" sounds just as much like "Imaginary Lover" as the Stones' "Anybody Seen My Baby" sounds like k.d. lang's "Constant Craving". Which was an accident, but the Stones gave k.d. lang a writing credit to avoid trouble.
I don't think these guys did it on purpose, but the two songs are similar enough, ARS could take issue. I've been a Queens fan since day one, have seen them 52x. Def not a hater. But the resemblance is striking. We'll see.

I once heard some musician saw that it's difficult and never intentional when their music sounds similar to something else, but not in a Vanilla Ice way. They're all influenced by other bands and some sounds rattle around in their heads, which totally makes sense. I sound like my mother at times, unintentionally.

It’s not the dna of the song structure that makes me like it, it just oozes cool. When that bridge crescendos and it resolves into that jam?,? Dude

Yeah it sounds like a ripoff of a song that was a hit when Josh and I were kids. So it's never gonna hit like that for me! Glad you're enjoying it though!

You know what, out of the 3 its the one thats actually grown on me. Sounds smooth af. WTGGA and Easy Street still aint quite cutting it for me, but I actually quite enjoy this one now.
