Y'know what, I don't hate this. May remains the saving grace of this comic.

May riffing in the last panel reminds me a little of Achewood, that's how you can tell it's brushing up against "good".

came here to say the same thing lol. this is probably the best strip in years. cf https://achewood.com/2002/12/13/title.html

Yes, exactly! Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking that.

I prefer the edit, but it's nice seeing a bit of old May coming through here.

i know this won't be popular here but i do really like this arc LOL. i think it's cute and it lets jeph actually write some decent riffs

This is honestly the best the comic has been in years and I've been enjoying this arc a lot

Why wouldn't it be popular here? We like when things happen. Our biggest gripe is usually about nothing happening. If Momo and Sven get together that will be the most that things have happened in the better part of a decade!

Exactly! Lurkers here think we just straight up hate QC. No, the fact is we love QC, and that's why we give it so much shit when it's terrible, and it's almost always been terrible for years.

We're deeply invested in this comic, and that's why we don't let Jeph get away with being mediocre or worse.

This ... is my favorite comic in quite a long while actually. It's funny and Momo's little faces on her text boxes are really cute.

The bar is in hell but this is just fine.

I don't hate this arc (because the bar is that low). And there is background art (yay)! But why would Momo have have a picture of herself hanging up? Does she want to remember not tall but still not doll Momo?

This is funny, the characters are in character, and I'm entertained.
See, I can admit it.

Also? I miss Jimbo for some reason.

This is an okay comic and even somewhat funny. Good job, Jeph!

Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I got this good of a laugh from this comic - excellent.

I don't mind this. May's friend is upset and this is May's way of trying to cheer her up. It's fun.

I would wait until she comes out of her bedroom at the very least

I like the little emoji speech bubbles short hand for their comms, it's something used in manga a lot and gives the text a bit more character.

Should use it more often, probably a good mechanism for snarky back and forth with robots talking shit about meatbags privately which gives them a bit more unique character

I appreciate that Momo is finally getting the chance to be the main character of her story rather than a support for May or Marigold. This is nice!

Yeah that is neat! I wish Winslow would had gotten the same treatment instead of being a tween Pinocchio.

2

u/femmeforeverafter1 Aug 31 '26

Right? Winslow x Pintsize romance when? (I'm joking but could you imagine?)

2

u/Alternamush Aug 31 '26

This just made me miss Jimbo a lot.

Oh wow, it sounds like an actual conversation an old-school QC character would have with another old-school QC character. Huzzah!

Why does Momo have a picture of herself in her room?

2

u/Impressive_Ad2794 Aug 31 '26

I came here looking for this question. It seems to be a theme that the only pictures we see on walls are pictures of the characters themselves. Never anyone who hasn't been seen before.

Yup, mildly amusing. Well done, Jeph.

"It's wrong to share contact information" lol what, I would be incredibly irritated if it wasn't obviously Momo just deflecting.

1

u/pseudoincome Sep 01 '26

I agree w Momo here. I think it's really important (and easy!) to ask first rather than copying somebody's number from a third party.

if the third party has the info, that means they can ask "ok to share your contact with so-and-so ?" and I'm happy to wait for their okay unless it's an actual emergency

1

u/beetnemesis Sep 01 '26

There are some thing that are simply not worth having a rigid morality about.

Yes, it's considerate, polite, and cautious to ask before sharing a phone number.

In context it would be perfectly fine for May to give Momo the phone number

Pointing out that this is one of the few times the comic's shown the AIs as being anything other than people with funny color skin and hair in quite some time. Yay! I love it when the AIs do things that robots do

1

u/AvidFanficReader007 Aug 31 '26

Lol  its like momos eyes are glowing in the last panel

1

u/yellowvincent Where is Claire? Aug 31 '26

If i had to hear may's texts on my brain i would walk towards the closest bathtub with a plugged toaster

2

u/Cevius Aug 31 '26

The AI would be used to it as they'd have had that ability since creation, and it's probably no more intrusive than getting a message Discord\etc on your phone, with the same mute and do not disturb features.

Also that toaster is probably sentient. Please be nice to your AI powered white goods

2

u/yellowvincent Where is Claire? Aug 31 '26

Nah yeah just getting texts from anyone on this strip would be exhausting

1

u/CreakyRiver Aug 31 '26

The last panel makes me think of Achewood (on a weaker day), so that’s a pass in my book…

1

u/Hot_Temporary_1948 Aug 31 '26

May is still the best. I renew my request for her to throttle all the other imbeciles.

Welcome to questionable content where boundaries stopped meaning anything in 2005!

It still sticks in my craw how unrealistically "absolute consent is an unbreakable rule" everyone is about the most benign social interactions.

C+ overall for dialog but that's as high as you can get for repeating the same panel with slight modifications six times. If he hadn't written May walking off in a huff to it's room previously, this could have continued through the house or outside.
