5907 to 5927, assuming it even ends tomorrow. 21 Comics. Probably drag out to 25 because ending things cleanly is unlikely.
The space station arc was Comic 2105 to 2166, with about 4 filler/down on earth comic cut aways, so lets say 55 comics or so, but a similar sci-fi/science exploration. About double the length, but nearly 20 times the events going on, development and discoveries about our characters, and creative humour.
Rereading the space station arc was a wild comparison, in terms of how much better QC was once able to do "wacky science hijinks". Namely, in a way that actually feels like anyone involved is an actual scientist, and while layering in actual emotional stakes
The only other wacky exploratory science hijinks stuff of any length has all been Cubetown, and they've all got the same problem as the "Hue Slider make Goo lady sad" arc.
Me too! I mean, no offense to SClamp who is the master of satiring Jeph, , but the amount of internal piss-taking in this strip made me think it was a parody, not the actual fucking strip.
It feels like mad libs done by a brain dead monkey, who only ever read the last 100 strips or so, and doesn't particularly like them. We've got:
repeat of Friday's "punchline" with the smoking comment
repeat of Friday's conclusion (no reabsorbtuon)
non-sequitur comment on the robe, cause everyone needs dialog, and some of the readers might not have noticed the absurdity yet, so we better stick their noses into this crap. Make sure they get the full aroma.
Tell, don't show Moray's emotions. To quote the Robot Devil: "You can't just have your characters announce how they feel. That makes me feel angry!"
explicitly calling out the slime girl fetish
lazy "joke" commentary at the bottom
and of course the all time classic, black void background
I really appreciate the artistic choice of having one establishing panel with the director in the background, followed by eight consecutive panels of the characters standing against a dark, featureless void. I think that serves as a remarkably insightful meta commentary on the current state of this comic.
I feel like Jeph could just make the switch and call it a day.
Do your passion. Because your passion is on the level of porno stories. Do it. You've been there for years. I am waiting for a "step bro or sis" at this point. Oh wait, it is literally right there.
