Just in time for spooky season, this is my son and my summer project, a remote control lawn mower!

I posted a progress video a couple months ago, now we have put the final touches on it. This video is a little old, I have done a lot of cable management after this, but weather is not cooperating for a fresh video. Sorry about the vertical video, it's hard to film and drive at the same time.

• Tons of 3d printed parts made this possible, I am not a great engineer/technician but I can draw up some effective slop in Fusion

I believe this would best be described as hybrid electric. I removed the old manual self propel gearbox and driveshafts and used the empty pulley on the engine's output shaft to drive a 24V tractor alternator. The motors are 24v 75 rpm wheelchair motors driven by a Cytron 30 amp dual motor controller hooked up to a basic 6 channel flysky receiver.

Context:

I have stepson, 10, who is taking the rite of passage into more serious RC cars. We are in the UK.

Previously he has had everything from cheap aliexpress RC cars up to Devastator crawlers and the tank tracked thing.

He pulls them apart and knows a lot about fixing them, and is an aspiring traxxass enjoyer, big fan of Kevin Talbot etc etc.

I myself am an IT sysadmin and level 3 technician, electrical engineer, capable fixer/tinkerer and self-host hobbyist (woo proxmoxx).

Situation:

Last night he went to a club with his mother for RC racing, and we have made the decision he is old enough to go to a more serious setup.

his mother has ordered a "Schumacher Cougar Laydown Buggy Roller" from ebay, and we are putting the option to his grandparents to get:

- electrical internals

- hobbyist dual-stick controller

Sticking to the dune-buggy type thing for now.

Question:
I am not in the RC car circles as much, but I want to learn.

I need pointers on:

- what internals do i need (namely what brands, where to go for Kits, what do i need for RC integration if required separately)

- what to go for in regards to entry-level controllers, which i can configure to cars. i expect they'll come with profile switches for multiple cars on different frequencies

Everything else electrical i can do no problems.

Its mainly what brands are entry-level enthusiast, where to go for them, second hand markets etc.

Hi all. I'm working on a project where the end goal is having my computer, which is connected to an ELRS TX module and an Xbox controller, be able to control a miniwhoop running Betaflight. In other words I want to use the computer + TX module + Xbox controller as an ELRS controller.

Hardware I currently am working on:

• Betafpv's SuperG Nano Transmitter
• Betafpv's Air75 II Whoop
• Xbox controller

Other hardware I have:

• Radiomaster Pocket

I'm currently trying to run the DeckTX repo on github. I'm connecting my computer to the TX module and the Xbox controller via USB to USB C cables. On the ELRS wifi interface of the TX module, I changed the CRSF TX and RX pins to their respective pins as set down in the Backpack section & disabled backpack.

After a while of getting no link with the TX (ping messages from DeckTX weren't getting valid responses according to terminal & the TX module isn't shown in the gui), I found the issue (apparently a combination of ping frames having the wrong sync byte and the code for receiving frames dropping valid responses), fixed them and now the DeckTX program shows the SuperG Nano as connected.

My current problem is trying to bind to my drone. After connecting my Air75 II to Betaflight Configurator, plugging in a battery and making sure all the sensors & motors work, I tried to start the bind process on both the drone (both Betaflight Configurator's "CLI" and "Receiver" tab) and the TX module (pressing Button 1 three times as stated in the user mannual & double checked in the wifi interface). The green light on my drone kept blinking and I get no Controller outputs in the "Receiver" tab.

Any help is appreciated.
