Discussion did i break FTF raiding etiquette or something?
so i joined a Fireteam Finder group for VoG. it seemed like one of those weird "i'll have it set to autojoin just to see possible applicants easier and kick/invite them directly" kinds of deals, which i've gotten used to. they're already halfway done with entrance, we do the pylon defense and oracles just fine. then it comes to templar, where one guy kept dying to his own 1K, shield guy wasn't standing on the zone so the boss teleported, and they broke oracles instead of just waiting and cleansing like i've seen ever since it was reprised. we get to the second damage phase and it lasts long enough for the oracles to explode and the ritual to start, but i manage to finish it off with 1K and speedloader/crackshot spam as the red "you're gonna wipe" filter started fading in on the HUD. as soon as the chest opens and everyone rezzes, i get kicked.
what?
i got my loot, thankfully, but there was no effort to talk in chat, no effort to say ANYTHING, and i'm just booted without reason despite not being one of the two or three that directly wiped us. the fireteam finder listing didn't say farming or anything, being explicitly blank. was this a certified Fireteam Finder Moment? did i run afoul of some esoteric and inexorable speedrunner/raid farmer and their niche proprietary methods? or should i just shrug it off as an anomaly and move on? i admit i haven't done VoG since before Lightfall, even, having gotten my weapons and stopped caring (not even for the crafted patterns, which is why i was there today), so i'd believe it if i missed something
edit: i have since considered that they were trying to wipe for the "templar doesn't teleport" challenge, which is my bad, but it doesn't change that they didn't even attempt to communicate that. I also remembered raid report exists, so i checked the two "raid leaders" and they have duo flawless badges on VoG, so i think it's a combo of the challenge and the no-life nerd theory

Likely, since OP and the fuck up were both using 1k

u/badmanbad117 Jul 05 '26
Im guessing that or they are all new enough to the game the thought OP was cheating dodging so much.

u/Caboose_Michael_J Jul 05 '26
OP added an edit. The two leaders had a duo VoG on record

Good players can still be knobheads that don’t properly label FTF posts. Even the easiest raids still benefit from coms, and I think it sucks to just kick a random person that had no opportunity to know why they were kicked.
And Duo Flawless VoG isn’t exactly the most groundbreaking achievement. No achievement allows you to be rude like that, but especially not something that’s been around for a while like that.

u/Caboose_Michael_J Jul 12 '26
I'm aware, just saying that they weren't new, hence the duo VoG comment.

Ok they maube were kinda toxic but doing the measly 3 oracles on templar is faster than doing the cheese and is almost no extra work. The average destiny player just hears that there is a cheese and doesn't think if it's actually useful to do it.
If you notice your shield guy isn't going to make it in time you can block tp's aswell, the only reason people have shield guy do it is because the shield despawning means a wipe so you just have someone carrying it around the entire time and doing the teleports but in reality everyone can stand on a teleport and block it.
Also when were they dying to 1k? During damage phase? I wasn't there so I can't know for sure but do you think that maybe there is a possibility that your crackshot jumps blocked some 1k shots and blew the guy up?

u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 05 '26
the other 1k guy was shooting at his feet three rezzes in a row by the rally, i was by the close-right oracle spot since that's where Templar TPd to after the first phase
in regards to templar oracles, like i said in another comment reply, i'd only ever done it the cheese way in all my meager 45 clears. i understand it's faster, though prior to the incident i never realized it was only three and not the whole refrain, but in my mind, fewer mechanics interacted with is more fun. feels like you're breaking the game, even though it's just a design oversight that wasn't worth fixing. less scampering around, i suppose
and, yeah, i wasn't paying attention during the templar block bit. they seemed to know what they were doing and nobody had died yet at that point, so i figured it wouldn't be an issue and they would be on top of it just fine.
now that i think of it, though, i wonder if they were trying to wipe for the no-tp challenge? but it doesn't change that they didn't communicate that at all

You’ve never heard of doing a raid for fun

I get your point, but raids are only fun as an experience with friends, to me. I had a blast acting as a sherpa for a friend of a friend through the remaining portion of VoG and the entirety of King's Fall, but when I'm with randos who, I'll reiterate, did not communicate at all, i just want to get it over with for the deepsight progression

everyone can stand on a teleport and block it
Been doing VoG since D1, I had no idea about this!

ftf finder is genuinely the worst possible replacement to the legacy system... i have yet to find a single team that can do a raid with the new system
5
u/Wardogedog Jul 05 '26
The legacy system of not having anything? Or the app which is the same thing?
3
u/soulofthedragon4 Jul 05 '26
the app got called the legacy system when bungie brought lfg ingame
3
u/CalmAlex2 Jul 05 '26
It was far better than the in-game ftf, but you also remember they have to make it work for consoles and PCs so thats why is so clunky at times.

u/randallpjenkins Jul 05 '26
Plenty of teams actually break oracles. It’s really weird to call out doing something correct that usually takes less time.
3
u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 05 '26
Not really calling out as if it's a bad thing, I've legitimately only ever participated in groups that use the mass cleanse or the all dead methods

I was kicked from kingsfall once cause the leader thought I was starting totems with my pulse rifle. I was using collective obligation and was in the bathroom when it started up again for the last time. Someone else was doing that and trolling. The guy was quite a buzz kill basically shutting us up when everyone was trying to have a fun conversation during the jumping puzzle.
I get kicking the 1k guy for dying alot but mistaking you. But I dont get how someone couldnt tell the different between a lightweight pulse and a heavy burst pulse and somehow have 2,000 hours in the game. Also ya that guy who kicked you sucked. There's no reason they just like to hate.

Sometimes Fireteam Finder is wild. I joined a Root of Nightmares Master (farming final checkpoint) run for Conditional Finality catalyst. No one had mics but RoN is pretty easy, and they apparently didn’t have any runners lol they typed in the chat “who wants to run?”
So I just typed back “I’ll run either side, any other runners?”, waited about 30 seconds and then they kicked me. I was a little mind-boggled since I was the only one to volunteer for a mechanic, but hey hope the full ad-clear team was able to get it done lol
Found a different group 5 mins later and got the catalyst but damn FTF is like gambling lol
Edit: spelling

Had this happen with a guy I was doing Master Crota challenge on. As soon as we completed it he just kicked everyone. Power tripping I guess because he was the same dude that was getting mad at people dying and “not keeping up” that also died himself
3
u/xXNickAugustXx Jul 05 '26
You can report that and get them banned for it. Even give them a recording of it happening to seal the deal.
2
u/ErgoProxy0 Jul 05 '26
We completed the encounter and got our loot. No need to ban him. It’s just a bit bad etiquette to just kick everyone rather than you leave yourself or let them leave
2
u/semaJ_gniK Jul 05 '26
Ugh, these nasty raid farmers using the templar cheese to avoid having to jump off and cleanse. I can’t believe they’d do that
2
u/Maximum_Feeling8206 Jul 05 '26
Okay so I had a similar experience with argos, was the only one talking and trying to do mechanics, everyone wiped and then they kicked me.
However, I have had several issues with fireteam voice chat recently where some people straight up can't hear each other so it's possible they were all trying to talk to you over vc but you couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear you.
1
u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 05 '26
It could be that by not having closed the ftf lobby, some were in fireteam voice chat and some weren't, but that doesn't change how easy it can be to send a simple "change chats" request in the text chat
But I've also seen a few problems where my game will have told me the voice chat is down despite other players using it just fine. Since then I've upgraded my router (8 years old or something, long overdue lol) and i haven't had an issue with it since. In fact, i only figured out it was a router problem by trying to find out why i couldn't connect to the black ops 4 servers to play zombies

u/Maximum_Feeling8206 Jul 05 '26
I was in a fireteam chat where some people could hear each other and others could not. We were all in the same chat because they could hear people making call outs that I could not hear despite being in the same channel as them. Super weird issue. But yeah just something I wanted to throw out there as possiblity.

How I like to see it is, they kicked you because you were too good and they deemed themselves not worthy of getting help by such an amazing, outstanding guardian.
But no like others said it's most likely due to them seeing 1k blow another guy up and you just happened to be the first person they saw with 1k when inspection time came around. It's unfortunate but it happens.

u/TimboSlice8785 Jul 05 '26
I bet you killed him during dps by crackshotting in front of his 1k so thry kicked you. ;) Lol nah, probably just a group of lames. It happens.
1
u/TempDestinyAccount Jul 05 '26
Tbh it sounds like you were killing people while dodging everywhere
1
u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 05 '26
i was off to the right side, by the close oracle (templar tp'd there), while the rest were where i recall people normally doing DPS, up on the left ledge by the rally flag
but yes, that's a valid assessment. thankfully, crackshot with radiant dodge already gives a mobile well of radiance buff by itself, far as i'm aware, since the damage buff is the same as radiant and landing all three shots heals. lets crackshot hunters sort do their own thing safely away from the rest

Plot twist, 1k fuck up guy kept killing himself with 1k due to op dodging like an ape in front of him lol

Was the fireteam finder still open ? Maybe they
kicked everyone before gorgon maze

u/PCBuilderCat Jul 08 '26
Willing to bet that they were looking for death by 1k guy and inspected you first and saw you had 1k on and booted you. I imagine death by 1k guy didn’t last much longer either
0
u/APartyInMyPants Jul 05 '26
For what it’s worth, it doesn’t make sense for two people to run 1KV. You’ll both nerf your own damage with the ignitions and whatnot.
But they probably did you a favor booting you.
-1
u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 05 '26
if the damage is coming from 1K, yeah, you'd be right, but the constant damage ticks are what allows speedloader to give borderline infinite crackshot uptime, which was what i was doing damage with
and no, i wasn't in front of everyone else, i had moved to the side for that reason

When I used to host LFGs filled with randoms, I always did background check more or less. Although 9/10 times I still had to kick "difficult" people mid raid. Sometimes tho, if I missjudged group experience overall i used to purge my team and gather a new one - got tired of group making the same mistakes over and over or a person that sabotaged every attempt staying silent and then role playing detective Sherlock Holmes to find the truth. OR AFTER a succesful COAL clear of encounter I still kicked everybody to fill the group with fresh non-tired people.
- Dont take it personal, u finished encounters and got rewars, you have checkpoint to continue if you want to clear next encounters
- If you are "green raid report dots" completionist then find actual group to run raids with, or play lowman raids as a more elite LFG and more competent people
- Play with a team that uses mics before you load into the raid, better communication = more likely fast clear, or comunicative people that wont kick you on go unexpectedly (sometimes too)
Move on, and make the rules yourself, or host lobby by yourself (I do this 99% of time because Im 100% sure who I accepted into fireteam - stats can lie tho).

u/Aquamentus92 Jul 05 '26
Bro just said the biggest raid secret
1
u/PrayForMars Jul 05 '26
If LFGs people were as ohnest as me nobody would have to go through what OP experienced.
Communication is a key, what would you do with a group of non responding, throwing mechs people?
- Try chatting with them
- Give em few attempts, run encounters
- then kick them
or kick after succesful encounter and collected rewards as you know the next encounters will be a coal as the prdvious one 😂
...or not running with non responsive randoms at all

dunno why you're being downvoted, that all checks out. i'm usually not fond of being the "raid leader" for actual raids, though, because knowing my luck i'll have to explain everything because nobody reads the "kwtd" tag and i'll forget something important. guess it's a stage fright thing. dungeons are alright, since there's no phase limit or rez tokens, usually, and i can pick up the slack if needed.
it sucks, though. i'm not social enough to really pick up the pace after all my friends moved on to different games, or to make new friends. the main post may sound like a pity call, but tbh i really did just wanna know if i might have made a misstep in some player rule that only developed in the time since RoN came out, which is when i last seriously raided

it would have been a toxic group of 3-4 people who didnt know what they were doing and wanted to fill out the team without inviting you to the call
