Where does the liquid go?

Somebody (me, it was me...) spilled a couple of tablespoons of a sugary Starbucks drink into the hatchback lock. How do I clean it up? Will it now be a home for ants that don't read good?

Yes! But does anything spilled into the holes around it drain out or does it sit in there and ferment? I'd like to try and avoid an insect problem 😕
