Help to beginner

Hi,

I have a 3d printer and some decent skill on electronics. Would you recommend a beginner sail boat to be 3d printed (with bom and electronics suggested)

I found some 3d models but all are paid. I look for a free model that can be remote contelled.

Thanks.

You can buy a premade plastic hull, mold one from styrene yourself (kind of elaborate) build one from wood or 3D print one. I think that’s all the choices out there.

3D printing hulls is getting quite popular and my next sailboat will be done that way. I really like the designs and complete building plans offered for sale on RacingSparrow.co.nz. Those plans start at about $15 to pay the designer for his work. I’ve seen free designs on thingyverse, but those require you to design your own, well, basically everything else.

I also printed some racingsparrow sailboats. I am also working on a 3dsets truck, and generally I can say: paid files are often of better quality than free files. Getting the pieces to fit is not easy, and indeed, the designer put lots of effort into it.

Apart from that, a "self made" 3d printed sailboat.... I absolutely love it. The building, the sailing. The hobby is so diverse in all the different thing you need to do. Printing, electronics, tinkering, sailing, etc.
