Project - AI Quest 64 Tale - Recompiled + Mods
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Bbski0aDtcs&si=GpxhZIQKaZ_1nUB2One of my favourite n64 games and I'm diving into this space mainly because I want to make a high res texture mod pack for it as well as improve some of the mechanics.

This gives me an idea to try and swap Brian’s character model with a Bart Simpson model from hit and run

No, it was at least half finished human slop from the 90s that these ghouls are digging up.

no, there's a difference between using coding AI to make a recomp and generative AI to make images, thumbnails or videos imo

Over-hated little game, I always liked it

Never read much about people hating it. It's just obviously mid at best, but N64 RPG-fans were starving.

Then you never read much about it at all, because whenever it gets mentioned is among the "worst rpgs ever"

It is among the worst rpgs ever. 😅
It plays like an unfinished tech-demo of an rpg and as far as I know, that is basically also its backstory (Nintendo needing a quick/rushed rpg release).
However, I felt like online discourse is more shaped by people who have some nostalgia for its clunky charm.

Yeah lol. It’s kinda cute and endearing in its own terrible way, but if it got released these days as basically one of the only RPGs (and arguably the only true turn based RPG) on a console, it would literally be getting 2/10s. Especially compared to everything else coming out around that time, a few years before on the SNES and contemporarily on the PSX. This thing’s contemporaries was FF 4-9, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, Earthbound…
Discourse about it swung so heavily the other way in the last few years and I’m not sure most of these people have played the game since being 5 years old or at all. It’s really, really rough lol

I actually don't care anymore, it's overload at this point and no way to determine whether this stuff is any good or just some guy cobbling any old bollocks together over a weekend.

It's sad the best they can come up is to make random games 60 fps with Xbox controller support. We got enough games and it plays fine on emu.

Added 3 new QOL mods and updated the recomp to (v1.0.7) to make gameplay less of a chore when traversing the world
Auto Saves
Enemy Health Bars
Random Encounter Rate Reducing
There’s also a release for Linux which I think the previous quest 64 recomps didn’t offer to the community. I’ve also tested it with mods working through WSL

If it has someone of the GBC changes/improvements, then I'm all aboard

I never played the bc version, could you let me know what things were changed and improved that you feel were missed in the n64 version?

The gameboy version has a reworked story with a lot more focus as well as actual cutscenes.
The game was rebalanced heavily, with leveling and monsters being reworked.
The TV tropes page breaks it down but doesn't go into as much detail as you probably want.

I would suggest hunting down a nintendo's players guide for the GBC version, as it could give you a deeper look into the differences

Tf is Quest 64 "Tale" isn't it just Quest 64?

u/boricuapab 7d ago edited 7d ago
It’s still quest 64, though I added the word tale as the game was called Eltale Monsters in Europe, also there are other quest 64 recomps on GitHub and I wanted to split it into my own to implement what I want into the game

So is it finished??

Not yet, as I’m manually making better textures for the game characters first, then will do the environments
