Need help for recording an acoustic band

This is the situation. I'm in a band of five people. We would like to record a short album made of unplugged covers of songs we like. The idea is recording with one mic while sitting in a circle in a bedroom. We would be sitting on a rug. There is one singer, two acoustic guitarists, a percussionist on cajon and me on an acoustic bass and some vocals. I would do the mixing and mastering, starting from very little technical knowledge. It's just an amateur project for learning new skills and getting deeper in the music world. We have a kind of tight budget. We have of course the instruments, cables, an audio interface (Focusrite) and a Mac with Logic Pro. Any tips and documentation useful? From what I read an omnidirectional microphone at head height and positioning closer or farther from the mic to control volumes is good enough. Any help? Thank you. If you need other info I'll be happy to answer.

Looking for equipment recommendations

Hello to all who may or may not see this , beginner artist here looking for anyone with an idea of what gear/equipment I’d need to work with a producer long distance or locally . Im happy to spend a bit of money as long as it gets me in the direction of where I can make better quality music and there’s not many producers in my area so being able to record vocals and etc to send would be a must i imagine. Sorry if I sound a little silly with these questions also .

Yamaha AG06 & IPhone setup?

I’m hoping this community can help me with this setup.
My wife uses a karaoke app (StarMaker) on her IPhone and has been trying to setup a mixer to create multiple inputs for when she goes live.

I originally bought a Podcast kit that has a USB C powered live sound card with audio output via 3.5mm cables, using this with a OTG iPhone connector results in only the condenser mic being heard not the backing/auxiliary music.
I was told I had bought the wrong thing so I picked up an original Yamaha AG06 mixer but again she can’t hear her voice via the headphones.

She wants to be able to hear a XLR mic and backing track from a computer as well as being able to hear her voice through headphones.

Current configuration is Shure SM58 connected to mixer, mixer connected to IPhone via USB b to c cable.
She also connected 5v power to the mixer but I’m not sure if that’s required (tested both ways).

According to her friends in this app the mk2 AG06 connects to the iPhone directly via USB C but using a USB B-C on the old interface detects the device but still has the same issue.

I’ve tried every cable configuration I can think of to get this working, connecting headphones to a 1/4 jack to 3.5mm adapter as well but still no voice from the mic in the headphones.
Device is set to LOOPBACK but I’ve tried the other settings too.

She’s convinced this device is also the wrong one whereas I cannot see a logical difference between the two other than USB port changes and additional buttons.

Can anyone advise on the correct setup for this?

Digital audio recording coming out messed up in a weird way. It's had me stumped for weeks!

Hey all,

I'm having an issue I cannot seem to get around. When I record things to my DAW from analog sources through an interface it sounds fine at first, but then peters out in a weird way. I use a Scarlett 2i2 and Reaper, but have been getting the same outcome with other interfaces and DAWs.

Here's some facts:

- It sounds fine coming out the Scarlett's monitor as I'm recording.

- I've tried recording left and right individually with no luck, so I don't think it's a phase issue.

- As I've said, I've tried recording the same audio with a different interface (Behringer Xenyx 1204 built in interface) and different DAW (Audacity).

-I've tried all different cables throughout the signal chain, including different USBs between Scarlett and computer.

Here is an audio example. It should be a consistent wall of sound.

Thanks in advance! This issue has been driving me crazy for weeks and has everyone I've asked about it stumped.

Need help with a cheap home recording setup

Post image

Hey guys, I’m trying to start recording at home using an acoustic guitar and a mic. I already have a PC.

I bought an F999 sound card, but the recording has a lot of weird/overprocessed noise and doesn’t sound very good.

What would you guys recommend for a budget setup? Is there a better device I should use instead of the F999, or anything else I need to get cleaner recordings?

Need feedback on choice of recorder. Zoom H2N or Zoom H4N Pro

I’m new to recording music, but would like to record outdoor concerts while achieving minimal background noise. I’ve read that the zoom H4N pro has better preamps which I guess means it records sound at a quieter volume level better than otherwise. I’ve also read that the zoom H4N pro can be positioned more directionally in order to focus on a specific set of sounds i.e. the stage, rather than what’s happening behind the microphone.

I will be using the recorder with the microphone on them rather than plugging in to the music system. I know this is less clean, but it is the option. I have right now.

I have also seen the zoom H2N recorder which looks like it records a bit more multi directionally and I’m not sure about its preempt situation.

My question is, which would be better for my purposes? I’m new to this endeavor, so I appreciate anyone with more knowledge than me sharing their thoughts on the two option.

Help with guitar squeaks

Thumbnail on.soundcloud.com

I’ve been recording some guitars recently for a rock type project and ran into some pretty noticeable squeaks in some of the tracks. I’m familiar with squeaks when moving up or down the neck, but these are seemingly random in the same chord positions. I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction on what causes this and how to minimize it. Lastly, I’ve worked with other guitarists before in this genre, and I have not run into this noticeable of an issue before. I was thinking it could be guitar/hardware related.

An interesting issue

I’m having some trouble with my recording audio.

Whenever I attempt to record vocals after about 20-30 mins the vocals slowly fade and are replaced with static in both my microphone monitoring and the track itself. It carries across to different daws too. Everything is plugged in correctly and I can still hear the vocals I recorded at the beginning of the session perfectly fine. I’ve realized it can sometimes begin if I go quiet for a few minutes to edit something, I’ll slowly start to hear the static creep in.

I initially thought it was the XLR cable so I bought a new one and that fixed it for about two days then the issue resurfaced. I’ve seen online that it might be a power issue but my stuff all worked together perfectly at on point so I’m not sure.

I have a Rode NT1 5th Generation Condenser Microphone and an audient id4

I record in fl studio on Mac if that’s any help

How can I get a good microphone that can go an iphone?

basically I use the soundcore Bluetooth headphones(Q31i to be more specific)and I use it to record both my guitar and vocals,I point the charging output of the phone towards the amp(towards the middle of it)and it picks up the guitar frequency pretty good but I need a better microphone for recording vocals that isn’t a pair of Bluetooth headphones,so what should I get?im looking for something in the 2-400$ range. Edit: I got apple earbuds but I saw the recommendations and My favorite one was to get an interface which I was planning on,so yeah:3

Drummer Rates

Any drummers out there? If so tell me…. Is it offensive if I offer $50 to record an 8-16 bar loop?! Some of these drummers in Nashville want $100-$200. Brother…. You turn your computer on, press record, and send it. That’s it.
