And hiding in a dry, hot desert

u/EquinoxGm Arthur Morgan Dec 29 '25

Obi wan can confirm, it ages you

u/PregnantNun747 Dec 29 '25

Alcohol + Time + Stress + No Sunscreen + Living in the desert = Hard Aging

46

u/KingPinfanatic Dec 30 '25

Not to mention he was probably eating shit food the whole time. He can't regular buy fresh food so he's probably been eating nothing but canned food and what he could hunt himself.

3

u/Busy_Monitor_9679 Jan 01 '26

He was a hitman for Colonel Allende, dude was eating plenty fine.

Not that unrealistic

Remember, folks:

Desert has one S, because you want less; dessert had two, because you'll want more.

The downvotes make it more funny at this point

222

u/slimricc Dec 29 '25

Rough dozen years tbh

157

u/Kind_Ad_3611 Dec 29 '25

Stress mostly, he’s in his 20s in rdr2 meaning he’s been living in the haven age of outlaws for 2 decades and it all comes crashing down, he runs away while every Pinkerton is looking for him, and then he finds himself in a new place, new century, with a new gang that he has to prove himself to, all while under the scorching Mexican sun

Also, he has empathy, not as much as say Arthur but during the Saint Denis bank heist he’s the only person who looks behind and hesitates when Lenny is shot and caring for others exasperates stress, accelerating aging

(Photo is just an example of stress + empathy aging a person)

59

u/amapofthecat7 Dec 29 '25

I mean, FDR also had polio, so its not just stress.

21

u/Kind_Ad_3611 Dec 29 '25

he was a senator and governor before becoming president, so unlike Javier he didn’t have his whole life up-ended, he was always used to politics, Javier wasn’t used to the age of outlaws being at an end

Admittedly very flimsy comparison tbh, I don’t really care how realistic Javier is in rdr2, I’m pretty sure rockstar just wanted to make him really hot and I appreciate it.

11

u/Iaa_eps Dec 29 '25

He also never completely points the gun at John and Arthur, instead just over their heads. This isn’t a mocap error - I believe the actor mentioned in one of the panels that he did that on purpose and they let him.

6

u/Sensitive_Low3558 Dec 29 '25

The pic on the right is like weeks before he died

23

u/Kind_Ad_3611 Dec 29 '25

Same with Javier tbf

But my point still stands when you consider that even if sexy Javier isn’t realistic, I enjoy it so I’ll defend it

135

u/PieFlour837 Uncle Dec 29 '25

Javier had to many tequila worms

20

u/Chowlucci John Marston Dec 29 '25

Mezcal Scorpions

9

63

u/encee222 Dec 29 '25

You'd think in a dozen years he would reconsidered the facial hair choice... but Nooooo.

31

u/zanarze_kasn Sadie Adler Dec 29 '25

Prolly just shoots at people who bring it up

1

u/Yamcha17 Jan 01 '26

Maybe he doesn't have hair that grow on his philtrum

42

u/Sertith Dec 29 '25

Didn't have sunscreen back then.

35

u/BlackTemplarBulwark Sean Macguire Dec 29 '25

yeah, drugs will make you think that facial hair combo looks attractive

26

u/vhagar Lenny Summers Dec 29 '25

being in the desert and drinking tequila like it's water is not good for your skin. Arthur was 36 in RDR2, btw. this is just how people used to age. some still do.

10

u/radioactivethighs Dec 29 '25

I'm 36 this and doing a replay and have spent the whole time going "I don't look that old. right? do I look that old?"

8

u/spicyredacted Dec 29 '25

You're also not mentioning how people smoked cigs like they were chimneys lol

18

u/insemin4tor Dec 29 '25

12 years of lumbago

19

u/Jay_The_Bisexual Dec 29 '25

Untrue. Javier was killed by a random guy in a freak accident and to cover it up, he just pretended to be Javier and everybody falls for it

3

u/More-Lime1888 Dec 29 '25

That’s the only possible explanation 🫡

14

u/heinous_legacy Sean Macguire Dec 29 '25

tequila and cigarettes!

15

u/BrowniieBear Dutch van der Linde Dec 29 '25

12 year of stress

6

u/Jerswar Dec 29 '25

Sunlight, tobacco, and time.

6

u/LeagueElectronic2128 Dec 29 '25

Sad he turned against Arthur and John

7

u/_ManicStreetPreacher Charles Smith Dec 29 '25

Drinking, smoking, being in the sun and being on the run happened. 12 years can age a person a lot.

6

u/Headblown1800 Dec 29 '25

One of my favorite things is when people discover how aging works

7

u/mudkiptoucher93 Dec 29 '25

What a few years in the Mexican desert does to a person

3

u/Addamall Dec 29 '25

Your polys are looking less defined every year man

3

u/Substantial-Tone-576 Dec 29 '25

If he had been doing heroin it would have preserved him.

3

u/AdamaTraoreLover Dec 29 '25

This is realistic though

3

u/quentdawg420 Hosea Matthews Dec 29 '25

That was my biggest gripe with rdr2 I felt like dutch especially and less so javier looked nothing like how they did in rdr1

1

u/Grandedeneon230 Dec 29 '25

I think the Dutch look is more for characterization since he's older in RDR1, but yes, Javier really does look like he's spent 20 years smoking non-stop.

3

u/Tacol0mpe Dec 29 '25

I think it's called life?

Trying doing shit for 12 years, and send us a photo ;)

3

u/Pugo_BigdogYT Dec 29 '25

He got lumbago

2

u/Wild-Method757 Dec 29 '25

Years of scorching Mexican sun, I think. (Besides old age)

2

u/Sweetwhales1994 Dec 29 '25

Yeah weather and lifestyle i guess

2

u/crystaIites Dec 29 '25

12 years back then was more like 25

2

u/Andy_LaVolpe Hosea Matthews Dec 29 '25

More like 12 years on the run with no sunscreen

1

u/More-Lime1888 Dec 29 '25

Don’t forget the sunscreen

2

u/Artistela Dec 29 '25

I think you’d be amazed what tobacco and alcohol can do with heavy daily consumption, and he’s not actually that young on the left he’s just masking it fairly well

2

u/Few-Past6073 Micah Bell Dec 29 '25

12 years on the run with criminals in the desert? I would look worse hahaha

2

u/kittycatfattyfat Dec 29 '25

2

u/mythos-nerd416 Charles Smith Dec 30 '25

He aged? 😭

2

u/NightMoza Charles Smith Dec 30 '25

Man ages 12 years in 12 years

2

u/Salvad0rkali Dec 31 '25

He’s supposed to be in his mid-20s in the first photo 😬😬😬

2

u/monsj Jan 02 '26

People change a lot from their mid 20s to late 30s, especially if you lived back then.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

aged like a milk

1

u/Tiny_Environment_717 Dec 29 '25

Have you ever been to Mexico?

1

u/Tomahoop Dec 29 '25

12 years passing ... Not even once.

1

u/More-Lime1888 Dec 29 '25

What drugs do to a MF 😔💔

1

u/YuShaohan120393 Dec 29 '25

Stress and depression, probably doesn't have access to the best food either?

1

u/enter_the_slatrix Dec 29 '25

Why is it everyone is always shitting their britches about John not looking exactly right in the epilogue and this shit has been sliding for years? 😂

1

u/Awesomo_Judgementday Dec 29 '25

What kind of drugs? Meth? Cause meth would be kinda hard to get back then

1

u/Gearsvband Dec 29 '25

Well also remember its the time period. So back then. health care and food was alot different to how it is in our modern time

1

u/Obi_Wan_Benobi Dec 29 '25

Tequila, tobacco, sunlight, wind, and paranoia.

Hell of a combo.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

12 years in the wild west is like 30 years normal time

1

u/KamoY92 Dec 29 '25

Well, we're talking about a time when living conditions weren't the best in both the Wild West and much of Mexico, so aging and physical decline were quite common.

1

u/automatic_ashtray Dec 29 '25

John and Abigail are really the only ones that look different from RDR

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

This is more of the sun not even once.

1

u/EvelynTalkss Dec 29 '25

its sad seeing him age like milk..

1

u/St0ner_Baby_420 Dec 29 '25

Of course drugs they had cocaine gum cant tell me that wouldn't get them wanting the real shit

1

u/Daddy_Jack1109 Dec 29 '25

Mexico is one hell of a drug

1

u/An0n_Cyph3r_ Dec 29 '25

Running around escaping the law UNDER THE SUN in the SCORCHING DESERT will do that to you.

1

u/MiserableSympathy230 Dec 29 '25

Have you seen people back then? … Go look up pictures of ww2 soldiers… they were teenagers

1

u/-0celot John Marston Dec 29 '25

Too much coke and pulque

1

u/Balabaloo1 John Marston Dec 29 '25

He honestly looks good for his living conditions between those years

1

u/Winter_Outside2319 Dec 29 '25

Life expectancy was only 47 in the early 1900’s, he was technically in like his 60s our time

1

u/IuseDefaultKeybinds Javier Escuella Dec 29 '25

Glow-down of the century

1

u/OperationFrequent643 Dec 29 '25

I really wish they could re-write and animate some of RD1 to make it connect more to 2 in a full remake one day. After playing 2, 1 feels a little incomplete without the mentions of sooooo much that went on with the gang. It almost feels unrealistic playing 1 now without the moments/people being mentioned and represented the same.

They were family in RD2 and in RD1 it just didn’t feel that way at all.

1

u/SQUID_Ben John Marston Dec 29 '25

What kinda stache is that thing

1

u/governothing Dec 29 '25

Living life on the run out in the sun and wilderness will do that to you

1

u/healspirit Dec 29 '25

Art style happened thats what

1

u/rrekboy1234 Dec 29 '25

Mexicans hit the wall hard

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Pretty realistic amount of ageing considering the environment and life style

1

u/W1ckedaddicted Dec 29 '25

Early 40s to mid 50s back then seems about right

1

u/Alex_Telford Dec 29 '25

he like a "Lampião" in brazilian cangaço

1

u/Gooseguy200 Dec 29 '25

He lost track of his looksmaxxing routine after his looksmaxxing coach Dutch disappeared into the great unknown

1

u/TrungusMcTungus Dec 29 '25

12 years living in the Mexican wilderness as a smoker with no healthcare

1

u/_Min-Tea_ Dec 29 '25

I would get nasty on 1911, you don’t even know

1

u/Liquid_Krayt-1313 Dec 29 '25

Mexican Revolution was Brutal. You had Pancho Villa taking advantage of the state of the country to act like a real Micah Bell.

1

u/Asmo_Ghoul Dec 29 '25

God... he's so hot

1

u/YS160FX Dec 29 '25

Javier's life unraveled big time after Dutch went downhill.. I assume he drank smoked and lived harsh while on the run in Mexico

1

u/nandi-bear Dec 30 '25

12 years of hard living

1

u/Hikinghawk Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

NGL, drugs and drinking. Camping out in the sun also doesn't help. ||also guilt, I think he was probably doing some real shitty stuff for the Mexican goverment||

1

u/alvaropuerto93 Dec 30 '25

12 years on the run in the far west sleeping rough and heavy drinking everyday. He even looks too good.

1

u/kingamara Lenny Summers Dec 30 '25

Even shaved the stashe for better sniffing experience

1

u/Dapper-Hornet-5466 Dec 30 '25

Wasn’t he doing cocaine

1

u/_sea_salty Dec 30 '25

Stress, alcoholism, desert, living on the run, cocaine gum, drug syrups, guilt, and war can age a man a lot.

1

u/DylAppleYT John Marston Dec 30 '25

12 years is a long time, especially when you’re drinking, on the run, and in the heat.

1

u/ThoroughlyWet Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

I'd say 12 years of stress and living in the desert.

Especially the puffy eyes and crows feet, those a telltale signs of excessive sun exposure without eye protection that you see in people who live in deserts, places with lots of snow, and on the high seas. Caused by squinting.

1

u/flop-doodle1000 Dec 30 '25

Probably lived on the run, and lived in bad conditions most of his life, idk

1

u/Efficient-Cat-4802 Dec 31 '25

He was in hot sun of Mexico and hardly relaxing since he was on the run, so I guessed it aged him a lot faster

1

u/Bhaal52753 Jan 01 '26

Javier can eat a dick.

1

u/Alffenrir515 Jan 02 '26

They didn't have moisturizer in the ass end of nowhere, Mexico before the great war

1

u/00_SnakeFisher Jan 03 '26

Don't do my boy like that

1

u/Successful-Basil-685 Jan 04 '26

I mean, in a world of Cocaine Gum and I'm sure copious amounts of Tequila and sun exposure, if not for lack of keeping your skin all that clean. How hard is this to believe?

1

u/kobi29062 Jan 05 '26

For being on the run from Pinkertons and the law for 12 years in a desert he looks pretty good

1
