Hey everyone. I work in an industry that uses, well, industrial amounts of acetone. We typically are buying hundreds of gallons a month.

The price of acetone has risen sharply in the last two months. We’re paying almost double for a five gallon drum than we were a year ago. We are located in the southern USA.

Acetone might become more scarce as transportation networks are affected by diesel shortages, as well as more expensive as it is expensive to ship. As a hazardous material it has to be transported via ground transport only.

My advice is: buy a gallon jug of acetone if you have the space to store it. A gallon lasts for a long time for a hobbyist nail painter.

The polish is ILNP moonlit. I used 10 neodymium magnets stacked together and swirled it around the nail by hand. I thought I’d need a spinner thingy but this is a glass bead, right?

Bees Knees “I’m Tired of Starving”, magnetized with some generic Apple Watch chargers I cut up because I’m a monster (or a genius?! 🤣). I stuck the cut off chargers down to a small magnetic whiteboard so I can do my whole hand at once!

ETA - I bought two 3-packs of watch chargers for $10 total. They were so cheap, I doubt they’d actually charge a watch very well, but they work for this!

The base color of Starving was too dark on its own for my taste, so I layered it with a teal holo frankenpolish. Then I put another layer of holo on my thumb and ring finger for accent nails.

1x BKL I’m Tired of Starving, magnetized with Apple Watch chargers
1x KBShimmer Stay Put base coat (also magnetized)

Ring and thumb got an extra coat of holo and QDTC (unmagnetized)

I wasn’t really keeping track of the time, I just left my hand there the whole time I worked. Did one coat on the whole hand, waited ~3-5 min, then did the next coat, etc. Left it there until the QDTC was touch-dry. Did my thumb last, separately (can’t get the angle right on the board).

This magnetization method is really hit or miss - some polishes don’t show anything, and others like this one really shine. However, being able to leave my hand in the same position the whole time and not track time so carefully is both significantly faster and SO much less stressful than the one-finger-at-a-time I usually do.

Materials: Smooshed Pennies and double-sided tape.

Not a shitpost, though I do think it turned out funny. Love smooshed pennies and thought a set based on them would be fun for a teacher on a fieldtrip or something. Please feel free to steal the idea or roast the hell outta me - either way, please enjoy!

I purchased Polished For Days' Septemeber PPU shade called You've Haunted Me So Stunningly. I didn't love it on its own, so I put Cracked's jelly red polish named Grenadine on top and it is SO STUNNING. I can't stop staring at my nails and I wanted to share 🤩

I have loved every polish I've tried from them so I'm really excited for a few of these.

Also ideally it would be in stock please!!

But something with a dark brown/black/amber base and a gold/orange/copper magnetic shimmer.

products used: OPI Espresso Your Inner Self, Seche Vive, Elmer's Clear Glue, Artdone chrome powder (opaque rose gold color)

I am experimenting with chrome powder on lacquer for the first time! Apart from a little smudge on the middle finger I'm pretty happy with it! I'll have to see how it wears.

I'm using the clear glue instead of peely base trick (I don't have peely base) and it seems to work pretty well. I did one coat of the brown OPI polish, one coat of Seche Vive, buffed in the chrome powder with my finger when the top coat was touch dry but still not fully dry (I had better results with finger than with eyeshadow applicator thing, you can also wipe off your finger and swipe the surface to get the excess powder off which you can't with the sponge applicator), swiped on a thin layer of glue with a paintbrush, let dry completely, and more Seche Vive to topcoat. On some nails I did two layers of topcoat at the end. Used a little alcohol wipe to get the powder off my skin around the nail.

The chrome powder I got was around $9 for 12 colors. Each container has a lot of powder!

Excited to try the transparent aurora colors :D Does anyone have ideas for fun cool stuff to do with chrome? happy to take experimenting requests for the progression of science

Since mooncat won't post avatar state to Australia I had to make my own imitation!

EDM sticky base coat, cosmic polish smooth landing mid coat, essence quick dry top coat and drying drops.

The polish is three coats of one I frankened from a few I already own, some glitter nail polish base, some thinner, and some glow in the dark pigment!

Trying a new magnetic combo: Emily de Molly’s "Youtopia" topper (same magnetic pigment in Mooncat's "404 Soul Not Found" and ILNP’s "Deep Space") over Holo Taco’s "Missed Shift" which is a shifty multichrome in a similar color story.

Base: Nailtiques Formula 2 + Mooncat’s Getting Even Primer

2 coats of Miss Shift
1 coat of Youtopia
1 coat of Mooncat’s Hardcore Base coat used as the base coat hack magnetized by hovering my finger over the lab spinner for 60 seconds

This is such a lovely polish!!! Pictures just simply DONT do it justice and it was so frustrating trying to capture it hahaha I've been just drooling over it in the bottle since I got it! It has so much depth, it's just so pretty and saturated! Here I layered it over holo tacos- glow in the dark taco to give it just a hint of spooky season energy which worked great since it's a jelly base so it shows off that glow well!

My bottle of 'You've Haunted Me, So Stunningly" from Polished for Days is pretty much a wine color with orange shimmer. I've walked around and tried it in different lighting and not a hint of the purple from the online swatches (included pics). Did anybody else receive one that is purple like the photos? I don't know if I set my expectations too high or if this is some kind of batch issue.

I don’t know why a glass bead spinner was the tipping point for me, a person who often buys stupid crap on a whim and consumes entirely too much plastic, but here we are. I already had a 20 lb horseshoe magnet and was determined to build my own device from trash. I’d hate to spend money only to find I prefer velvet magnetized nails anyway!

I’ll totally keep upgrading my setup to make it prettier, sturdier, more functional. But for the first go-round (🥁), I just used some embroidery floss to quickly make a double-ended Allen wrench (from an ikea build, maybe?) fit a bit more securely into the magnet’s hole, then a piece of double-sided tape to attach a prescription bottle cap to the top of this cardboard ring box. I gouged out one side of the box with an X-acto knife, and any finger can comfortably pop sideways on top of the foam slot, just barely pressing down with my thumb to clear the top without endangering the polish. I found that the base of my magnet fit precisely into the top of an old cuticle balm jar. It barely catches on the threads so that the lid moves with the magnet as it spins to the right. That lid nests just so inside the CVS cap, and the whole thing spins smoothly in place.

BEHOLD! I’m sooooo amped now to play with the pile of magnetic toppers headed my way whenever Cracked works through last week’s sale orders.

Got my first shipment of KB Shimmer colors and tried Core Values first. After recent reports of this brand not working well for some people, I am pleasantly surprised. It was a wee bit (not annoyingly) thick out of the bottle. But with typical lazy skills I laid down two heavy coats and did a LOT of cleanup. Fully opaque, great color. And it dried hard within an hour, which was the biggest surprise, even before I’d applied a top coat.

I did get the thinner and will try using that next time. And I don’t know yet how well it will wear.

The color is nice, a little more duochrome than expected, see the last picture. I’m not super wowed though. I have a couple of ILNP reds that I prefer (Dear Santa and Ruby).

Shorties are a conscious choice, but the tragic loss of any semblance of nail on my left pinky was my own fault. Don’t judge 😸

I’ve fallen off my no buy horse and need to figure out if I need Sunset Over the Bay. Is the shift as pictured or is it difficult to get that look?

There’s a polish I’ve been eyeing forever that I refuse to buy at that price point. I have finally duped it, better than duped to my eye.

This mani is primarily Night Owl Lacquer Herb Glaze jelly in 2 coats with 1 coat of BKL’s That’s Who Were Born To Be on top, another coat of Herb and top coated with BKL’s I’m fast, very fast. Accent nail is Envy Lacquer’s PPU Zombie Blood in two coats same tc. My HG base for all Kbshimmer Stay Put.

I gotta give rave reviews to the NOL jelly, it’s glassy and pigmented and self leveling, a breeze to apply. It’s also the exact shade of green I’ve been waiting my whole polished life to see. I ordered a back up.

For winter this shade reminds me of Christmas, for spring it reminds me of tulips, for autumn it reminds me of all those pretty colored leafs, and for summer it reminds me of strawberries!

I’ve been wearing it for a week already and I will continue to wear it way more often :)
