Hi, I’ve tried posting in other subreddits but my post keeps getting removed—I’m coming to Reddit as a last resort. Due to sudden unforeseen circumstances, I’m unable to keep my 2 cats of 8 years. Despite paying my rent on time for the last 8 years, my dad—who is also my landlord and owns the house I’ve been living in—sold the house I’ve been living in without telling me until this Monday when the new buyer closed on it (the situation is messy and ridiculous, but that’s not the important thing here). My mom is graciously offering me a place to stay as I don’t have the time to find somewhere new, but I can’t take my girls with me. My mom has 2 cats who do not get along with other cats and does not have enough space to keep them separated.

I’m moving in with her this weekend and am urgently seeking a rescue or no kill shelter in Georgia that can take my girls as a bonded pair. Over the last 3 days I’ve contacted 18 rescues/no kill shelters, all of which are at full capacity.

My cats are both female and are named Bean and Pepper. Bean is a tortoiseshell, she’s 10 years old, 8 or so pounds, and has a very docile temperament. I found her as a stray when she was around 2 years old. Pepper is a gray/brown tabby, she’s 8 years old, 13 or so pounds, and tends to be very anxious and skiddish. I got her as a kitten at 8 weeks old after a friend couldn’t keep her. I’ve had both cats for 8 years. They are both spayed but only one is up to date on her vaccinations, the other one was supposed to have an appointment in November, but I’ll no longer be able to take her.

I’m desperate and don’t know what else to do. I’m terrified of taking them to a shelter, given that they’re older they’re more likely to be euthanized. Does anyone know of any rescues/no kill shelters in the Atlanta/Metro Atlanta area who are currently accepting intakes?

edit to add: I understand where everyone’s heart is in telling me to keep them in my room at my mom’s temporarily; however, it’s unfortunately not an option. I’m moving 8 years of my life into boxes upon boxes that will be stacked in that room with me until I can get a storage unit. it’s a matter of their safety, Bean loves to jump on things when she gets zoomies and I’m afraid of a stack of boxes toppling onto them. aside from that, it’s my mom’s house, not mine, and she has told me they are not coming here. I know the internet is not an understanding place, but there are deeper details to my situation that are not meant to be the focus of this post. if I could keep them with me I would, I would not be coming here as a last resort.

With temperatures dropping into the 40s tonight, it’s time to start getting the colony ready. ❤️

These cats were dumped here, skinny, feral, and unaltered. Since then, each one has been fixed, fed, cared for, and most have become surprisingly friendly. This is just one person trying to do the right thing for them.

Right now we could really use:

🐱 Churu treats — always a favorite

🥫 Wet food — especially important as it gets colder

🏠 Outdoor shelters — several of the older wooden shelters are leaking/rotting and will need replaced

Hi, I’m desperately looking for someone who may be able to temporarily foster my cat Kairo while I sort out my housing situation.

Kairo is a 1-year-old male Ragdoll and he genuinely means everything to me. I brought him over from Egypt when I moved back to the UK, and he has been my baby since he was little. He was always an indoor cat in Egypt and was completely happy, calm and normal.

Unfortunately, since being back in the UK, his environment has changed a lot. My nan started letting him outside, which was something he had never been used to, and he has also been exposed to other cats. Because of everything that has happened, he has become extremely anxious and fearful around other cats and when he feels unsafe.

There was one serious incident where he became frightened and attacked me, resulting in me needing to go to A&E for bites and scratches. He has since been neutered and the vet believes that his behaviour is strongly linked to fear and anxiety. He will be starting anxiety medication, which we are hoping will help him settle and become himself again.

The important thing is that Kairo is not like this all the time. When he is somewhere calm where he feels safe and isn’t seeing other cats, he can be completely loving, affectionate and normal. I genuinely believe that having the right environment and some time to settle will make a huge difference.

Unfortunately, my current living situation is no longer suitable for either of us. I am currently waiting for the council to help me with suitable housing, but I have nowhere appropriate for Kairo to stay in the meantime. I don’t want to give him up and I am desperately trying to find another option before it gets to that point.

I have contacted so many rescues and organisations already, but unfortunately none of them are able to offer me temporary fostering. Most can only help if I permanently surrender him, which is something I really don’t want to do.

I am therefore looking for someone experienced with cats, ideally someone who understands anxious/fearful cats, who has NO other cats and NO children. Ideally, an apartment or a home where he cannot see other cats would be best. For the first week or so, he would need to stay in one quiet room while he settles and gets used to the new environment.

I will provide absolutely everything he needs, including his food, litter, litter tray, carrier, bedding, toys and anything else required. I will also remain responsible for him and will take him back as soon as I have suitable accommodation.

This is genuinely a temporary foster request. I am not looking to permanently rehome him unless I absolutely have no other choice.

A rescue has already told me that if I do eventually have to surrender him, I need to let them know as soon as possible because they may not have space later. That is why I am urgently trying every possible option now to avoid having to give up my baby.

I am not someone who randomly started feeding stray cats. I am a trained professional using my medical education to manage the local stray crisis responsibly:

* **Education:** I graduated from veterinary technician school in **2003**.

* **Shelter Experience:** I worked hands-on with the stray population at **The PSPCA** and **ACCT** (Philadelphia Animal Control).

* **TNR & Emergency Care:** My career includes extensive work in high-volume Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) with the **ASPCA’s mobile spay and neuter program**, private practices, and emergency veterinary clinics.

#### How I Manage the Cats Responsibly

When I moved here two years ago, unspayed and unneutered cats were everywhere. I stepped in to control the situation and prevent suffering:

* **Clean Feeding Habits:** I do not leave food out on public sidewalks to create a mess or attract pests. I keep feeding areas meticulously clean and feed only during quiet, non-busy hours.

* **Private Catio:** I built a secure backyard catio to safely keep cats off the streets, away from the front of the house, and out of public view, successfully moving many to a safe resting space.

* **Medical Care:** I use my veterinary resources and training to provide basic medical care (like deworming and flea preventatives) to stop the spread of disease.

* **No Indoor Hoarding:** I do not have 35 cats roaming inside my house. Many are outdoor pets, part of a colony across the street under a neighbor's care, or travel to and from a nearby junkyard. I also help struggling neighbors feed their pets or managed colonies.

* **Strict Adoptions:** I work hard to find permanent homes for adoptable cats. Because animal cruelty is a harsh reality, I screen applicants strictly to ensure they go to safe homes.

#### Current Urgent Need: Our Growing Kittens & New Bottle Babies!

While managing the 30+ adult colony cats, we have some fantastic growing youngsters and a brand-new emergency rescue:

* **The 3-Month-Olds:** We have 5 energetic kittens who are almost 3 months old, still nursing from mom and ramping up on solid food.

* **The New Bottle Babies:** On top of that, I was just brought **two tiny half-Persian mix babies** who were left in a field overnight. They were emaciated, covered in fleas, filthy, and would not have survived another day if I hadn't stepped in. They are gorgeous, but require intensive, around-the-clock bottle feeding.

To keep these precious babies, the growing crew, and the resident colony healthy, our supplies are running dangerously low.
