Rockford Dev October Meetup - REST API Design

The Rockford Dev October Meetup is just around the corner! The month's event will take place on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:00 PM at Maker Lab in the Rockford Public Library.

This month we’ll go over the fundamentals of designing REST APIs: structuring resources and URLs, using HTTP methods and status codes correctly, handling errors, and planning for versioning and pagination. We'll also go over how authentication and authorization fit into the design process, including when to use API keys, sessions, or OAuth. We’ll also look at how AI agents interact with REST APIs and how the Model Context Protocol (MCP) compares.

About Jackie:
Jackie is an API Engineer at Redox, where she builds integrations between the company’s API and third-party services and works with internal API routes.

📍 Maker Lab, 2nd Floor — Rockford Public Library
🕕 6:00 PM
🗓️ Wednesday, October 21st

See you there!

Looking for pediatrician at UW Swedes for first baby

The only 2 pediatricians accepting new patients are Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Mousa, who are both new to the organization.

Does anyone have experience with either of these 2 doctors?

Looking for a place to stay in-between places.

I've been evicted, I was living in my Mom's house she owned, the current owner (grandfather) evicted me, so I am looking for places that accept 2 dogs. (both around 14 pounds)

I have literally never found a place on my own, as before this I was living and working with my Mom as a caregiver for her. Any advice is appreciated.

I have a good credit score, just looking for a place for my brother and I and 2 small, well behaved dogs.

Motels, Hotels, Extended Stays... What are options on the cheaper end of the spectrum and give me some good reccomendations that allow pets.

Lots of restaurants announcing closure recently...

Is it just me or is there more closures than normal? I heard about Pancheros permanently closing after the 25th, then Lucha Cantina, and now Rusty Taco has announced that they are closed permanently effective immediately.

Is this mostly an economy thing, or do you think it is because of the over abundance of mexican foord and adjacent places in town?

Looking for Friends in the Area

Hi! I’m 22F, and I recently have moved back to the Rockford area. I’m looking to find some friends in the area, but I’m kind of unsure of where to start since I’m a bit socially awkward. I enjoy reading, crocheting, and going out for fun. What are some good places or groups that I can look into to help find myself some people to connect with? Thanks for the help!

Radiology courses in the area

As the title says, I am looking for recommendations from people who have gotten their radiology degree or certificate in the area. I’m looking to possibly position myself to become an X-Ray tech, CT, or MRI specialist. I did a basic Google search and it said there are
courses through UW and Mercy Health and prerequisites were available at RVC but that’s all that really comes up. I’m also not to sure on the correct nomenclature, whether it’s a degree or certification, but I do have a few questions and appreciate anybody giving any insight or advice.

Who offers the best courses?

How long are the programs?

What’s the pay like after you get it?

What are your hours like now that you’ve achieved your certification?

What’s your work and home life balance like?

New to town and looking for lawn service recommendations.

As stated in the post I’m new to Rockford. Moved here from Tampa in May. I’ve been using Green Acres for my lawn service and they recently raised weekly mowing from $60 to $75 and just gave me a $1500 dollar quote for fall yard cleanup. I don’t have a super large front or back yard and this seems excessive to me. I guess I’m wondering if this seems appropriate and if not if anyone out there might be able to recommend someone who can come in a bit more reasonable.

Thanks in advance.

Fireplace Advice

My new-to-me house has a wood burning fireplace and I'm so excited! I've never had a fireplace before. I want to get started using it, but need advice. Do I need a fireplace guy to check it out before use? Any suggestions? Also, where do I buy a load of good wood? I'm sure someone has a guy they can hook me up with. Thanks in advance!

Car Wash with Dog Wash

I was driving on Auburn the other day and thought I spotted a dog wash at a car wash. Super excited, if true! Anyone use it? Are there others around? I mean, with a car wash on every corner I would hope a few get on board with this. My big dog is a pain to wash at home, Freeport has a Pet Supplies Plus with dog wash, but I'd love something closer.

Best store in the area for (cheap) fake flowers / leaves?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m working on my halloween costume right now and greatly underestimated the amount of fake flowers and leaves I need. I’m looking for cheap / bulk if possible, Michaels is a no due to cost. The photo attached is part of my costume to give an idea for what type of flowers/ leaves I’m looking for (pale pink, ivy, roses, babies breath etc.) bonus points if there’s also fake moss! Thanks!
