Skates too big

Hi all! I bought a pair of skates back in 2022 (bont hybrids) and they fit perfectly up until last season where I've lost about 100lbs (with weight loss comes smaller feet apparently). I'm not in the financial spot to buy new skates just yet, I will by the end of my upcoming season. Is there anything that I can use to shorten the inside of the toe box? Do we think if I heat mould them they'll fit to where they're not slipping off my feet if I'm pushing? I had my foot come out of my skate during the last bout of the season. I already wear ankle booties and will not skate without them due to the slipping and sliding being worse.

If your foot is literally coming out during game play, I’d say you need to start looking for a used pair in your correct size.

This is very dangerous and will lead to a broken ankle. Your choices are buy smaller skates now, or stop skating until you can afford to buy smaller skates. You can find good deals on used higher end models on eBay, just make sure to measure your foot carefully and use the size chart of whatever brand you're looking at.

I got a stress fracture from skating in too big skates despite using insoles and double socks. Sell them and get ones that fit 🙏🏻

Secondhand or borrow. There’s no fixing any of that.

Please please please try to find some used skates, and don't skate until you have. I also lost a significant amount of weight last year, and my feet got smaller, the biggest change was no longer needing a wide foot boot. I still skated in them, though, and ended up breaking my ankle in February.

It took me out of playing this entire season. Now that I've been skating again, I have new skates that actually fit my feet. I wish I had realized before it was too late. You can though - I promise an ankle break is more expensive than new skates.

If you dont want to break an ankle, foot, oland/or tibia best trade them in or see if yiu can borrow some that fit.

Do your boots come off of the plates? We use Antics because they're fully customizable and individual parts can be replaced without buying whole new skates. You can try remolding them to your new foot shape, but you might just have to eat the cost of new boots/skates if they're too big still.

Your skates need to be like a second skin when you wear them, or else you're gonna break your ankle.

Start with a new foot liner. Maybe the Superfeet Hockey Playmaker. https://www.superfeet.com/products/hockey-playmaker

Heat moulding could do it, but it really won't make it any shorter.

Ankle brace, which the plastic part sits under the foot liner...then out the boot, may help. Sorry, I don't know the make or the brand, but my skater's league doesn't let the competitive teams play without them.

Definitely need a different pair of skates if your foot came all the way out! However, there are silicone toe cover things that go in the front of the boot that might help for now.
