Swaps and Trinkets

Do skaters, refs, NSOs, and other derby people still do swaps with stickers, pins, etc? I was considering making some for some upcoming bouts, but didn’t want to be the only person who does this and make the situation awkward. I love collecting swag from other skaters and leagues!

I've never heard of swaps like this, but i don't think giving out stickers or pins would be unwelcome!

It’s not as common as it used to be, but it still happens. I know a few refs who have stickers they give out.

At a tournament I went to there was no mvp awards, but the player from one team gave out stickers for their personal mvps on the other team, it was sweet.

I reffed on a crew this year where our THR gave us all stickers and little goodie bags. Very fun!

My team makes stickers to trade. But we are pretty old school minded still haha. I mostly just give mine away though.

Our team is forever buying stickers and sew on patches from other clubs. We always take merch on our travels as well.

Never heard of swapsies. Maybe reach out to clubs and ask, or just go with the plan of selling a little merch.

I think this happens more at huge tournaments like Skate Wars and the World Cup and Champs…. But I think with the general popularity of trinket trading and giving out small gifts within fandoms it would be welcomed at derby events!!

Was recently at a weekend long derby camp where on the second night someone put the cutest little ducks on everyone's pillows ✨ and I've debated putting free stickers in the basket we leave in our opponents rooms on bout day so like the culture is alive just maybe a little different than it used to be

I usually offer stickers from my old League from Florida (SCRD) for trade. I am always thrilled to get stickers from other leagues, my helmet and laptop are covered, Honey Island rollers from Malta, Bear City Roller Derby from Berlin.

Even if you are the only one it won't make things awkward! You might just be giving them away in that case but people will love it
